Abstract: This technology relates generally to television set-top-boxes (STBs), and more particularly to sharing program information between STBs using voice communication. In one embodiment, a method of sharing television (TV) program information between STBs is disclosed. The method includes obtaining, by a control unit, program-specific-information of TV content selected by a first user using a first STB. The program-specific-information may be converted into a voice message by a Text-to-Speech (TTS) converter. The method further includes establishing, using a first Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) associated with the first STB, a voice call from the first STB to a second STB. The voice message associated with the program-specific-information may be transmitted from the first SIM to a second SIM associated with the second STB over the voice call using a first modulation scheme.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a space image reproduction method for loading two or more videos to a terminal to show videos of various angles and a system therefor. In particular, the present invention relates to a space image reproduction method configured to load a video, which is being reproduced, and a video adjacent to the video together, and to enable a user to drag and select a video of a desired angle and view, freely and in real time, a desired part of the selected video through an up and down-right and left movement, zoom in, and zoom out, and a system therefor.

Abstract: A method that incorporates teachings of the subject disclosure may include, for example, accessing, by a system comprising a processor, a content display configuration corresponding to a plurality of feed selections from a plurality of media content feeds, a plurality of display selections from a plurality of available displays, and a plurality of pairing selections assigning each feed selection of the plurality of feed selections to at least one display selection of the plurality of display selections, and transmitting a plurality of displayable content streams according to the content display configuration. Abstract: Video editing using contextual data may include collecting metadata from a sensor concurrently with recording a video, wherein the metadata is synchronized in time with the video, detecting attributes within the metadata and attributes from the video, and correlating the attributes with a plurality of editors. An editor may be selected from the plurality of editors according to the correlating and a video editing workflow may be automatically initiated. Content discovery using clusters may include receiving a user request for video content from a device, determining a behavioral cluster for the user according to demographic data for the user, determining a video of interest associated with the behavioral cluster, and providing a video of interest to the device using the processor.

Abstract: A satellite reception assembly may comprise a housing configured to support receipt and handling of a plurality of satellite signals. Abstract: In one embodiment, a computer-implemented method includes monitoring a plurality of actions and inactions with video controls of a particular viewer during a first session, wherein the plurality of actions and inactions form a session profile that represents the particular viewer's short-term viewing habits; correlating one or more session profiles that have similar category values to create a signature profile having signature categories that represents the long-term viewing habits of a particular viewer; and matching a new session profile with an existing signature profile to determine a particular viewer for targeted advertising purposes.

Abstract: Media comprising media segments is played in a browser application. The segments comprise video and/or audio payload data encoded by a codec supported by this browser application. To play the media, several steps are performed by the browser application. First, a first subset of media segments of the media is obtained from a server. Then, a first media file is constructed comprising the video and/or audio payload data of the first subset of media segments. In a third step, a second subset of media segments of the media is obtained from the content distribution network whereas the second subset is consequent in time to the first subset. Then, the second media file is constructed comprising the video and/or audio payload data of the second subset of media segments. Finally, the first and second media files are played in the browser according to the codec.

Abstract: A DVR sends, over the Internet, to a server, information that indicates a set of programs. The information also may indicate a ranking of the programs in the set relative to each other. In response to receiving the information from the DVR, the server determines a “to do” list of programs that the DVR should record as those programs are broadcasted in the future. The “to do” list indicates recording times and channels for each program. The server sends the “to do” list back to the DVR over the Internet. The DVR receives the “to do” list over the Internet and stores the “to do” list. As the programs on the “to do” list are broadcasted, the DVR automatically records those programs at the list-specified times and on the list-specified channels. The DVR stores those programs on the DVR's hard disk drive for later viewing by the DVR user.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a portable information terminal apparatus for additionally displaying information about other programs broadcast in the same time slot as a user-selected program. A TV program recording preset program under control of an I/O control program receives input of a user-selected start time of a given TV program. In turn, the TV program recording preset program extracts from a program list memory not the user-selected time but the start and end times of the TV program relative to the selected time, and retrieves information about all TV programs to be broadcast between the extracted start and end times so as to create a table of TV programs available in the designated time slot. The table is output to a display unit for display under control of the I/O control program.

Abstract: A method and system for dynamic channel management of a television based on media center set-top box tuner availability. The method includes determining a last channel a television was tuned to prior to being turned off. Then it is determined whether the last channel is a radio frequency remodulated (RF-remodulated) channel. If the last channel is a RF-remodulated channel, then sending a signal to indicate that the television is on line with the RF-remodulated channel. If a tuner is not available for the television, then receiving an indication of a cable channel that was last RF-remodulated to the RF-remodulated channel for the television. Finally, changing the television to the cable channel.

Abstract: Advertisement insertion techniques are described. In an implementation, a network operator decrypts a stream of content received from a content provider at a first server. The decrypted stream of content is communicated to an advertisement splicer, which locates one or more advertisement insertion points in the decrypted stream of content. One or more advertisements are then inserted in the located one or more advertisement insertion points. The decrypted stream of content having the inserted one or more advertisements to a second server, which encrypts the decrypted stream of content having the inserted one or more advertisements. The encrypted stream of content having the inserted one or more advertisements is emitted to be communicated to one or more clients for output.

The supplementary, program-related data signal of the received broadcast signal is stored, and retrieval of the stored supplementary, program-related data signal is enabled interactively with the programming signal being performed. In response to a control signal being actuated by a member of the audience tuned to the programming signal being performed, the stored supplementary, program-related data signal is retrieved and used to generate the supplementary, program-related output.

Abstract: A broadcast program processing apparatus that enables a user to acquire evaluation data provided by others who have already watched a broadcast program when the user intends to play back the recorded broadcast program. A broadcast program receiving apparatus records the broadcast program. Before playing back the broadcast program, the broadcast program receiving apparatus acquires the evaluation data concerning the broadcast program provided by others using a cell phone unit. The acquired evaluation data is outputted in connection with the recorded broadcast program. The user can determine whether he or she wants to watch the broadcast program with reference to the evaluations made by others.

Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention enables a personalized video recorder (PVR) to reliably record automatically a pay-per-view show that it receives from a set-top box. Specifically, a PVR is communicatively coupled to a set-top box thereby enabling the set-top box to request and receive from the PVR its control commands. The set-top box stores these control commands enabling it to control the functionality of the PVR. Therefore, a user may utilize an electronic programming guide (EPG) provided by the set-top box to program the PVR to record (for example) a pay-per-view show. Upon completion of the programming process, the EPG of the set-top box orders the pay-per-view show while the set-top box transmits the programming instructions to the PVR. After receiving the programming instructions, the PVR adds them to its programmable task list. Subsequently, the PVR receives the ordered pay-per-view show from the set-top box and records it.

Abstract: Disclosed is a user history based multimedia service system, wherein user history data include a multimedia consumption type and/or consumption behavior of the user. The consumption type data includes a start time or end time of the multimedia content consumption (i.e., simple view data), content recording time and format, content backup time and format, and content transfer time and format. The consumption behavior data includes a content access/play data such as a normal finish, skimmed, skipped, slowed, or replay, and a stopped data of the content access/play. The consumption type or consumption behavior data include information on program identification and information on access to the consumption type/consumption behavior data. The respective data is provided for each user and program.
