  • Patent number: 10770965
Abstract: This disclosure describes a flyback converter with a series-parallel mode (SPM) active clamp. The active clamp, coupled in parallel with the primary coil, may include a clamp switch, two or more snubber capacitors, and associated diodes. • Patent number: 10756648
Abstract: A multiphase inverter for an electric vehicle drive has a plurality of drivers to provide drive signals to respective gate loops of upper and lower transistors in the phase legs. A transformer has a secondary winding in a first gate loop of a first transistor in one phase leg and a primary winding connecting a Kelvin-emitter of the first transistor to a Kelvin-emitter of a second transistor in the other phase leg. Switching transients of transistors are shortened because when gate signal is toggled to change a conduction state of a transistor in a first phase leg, a rate of current change in the first leg is sensed in a transformer primary winding connected across a stray inductance of the first leg. A voltage proportional to the sensed rate is added to the gate signal via a transformer secondary winding, thereby increasing a common source inductance of the transistor.

  • Patent number: 10719096
Abstract: A reference generator provides a reference output voltage that is continuously available while providing certain efficiencies of a duty-cycled voltage regulator. The reference output voltage is generated by a sample-and-hold circuit that is coupled to a voltage regulator. On command, the sample-and-hold circuit samples a low dropout voltage regulator that may be referenced by a bandgap circuit. During hold periods of the sample-and-hold circuit, the voltage regulator, in particular the bandgap circuit, may be disabled in order to conserve power. A sample cycle by the sample-and-hold circuit may be triggered by a signal received from a configurable finite state machine. The reference generator is effectively duty cycled in a manner that conserves available battery power, while still providing a constant reference output that is always available. The reference generator is especially suited for low-power, battery operated applications.

  • Patent number: 10720838
Abstract: Embodiments provide forced-burst voltage regulation for burst mode direct-current-to-direct-current (DC-DC) converters in integrated circuits. The DC-DC converter generates an output voltage and operates in a burst mode to raise the output voltage to a threshold voltage. A controller is coupled to the DC-DC converter. In operation, the DC-DC converter is configured to perform the burst mode based upon a low-voltage detection for the output voltage. The DC-DC converter is further configured to perform the burst mode when a force-burst command is asserted by the controller to the DC-DC converter regardless of a state for the low-voltage detection. For one embodiment, the force-burst command is asserted as a burst control signal from the controller to the DC-DC converter to generate a long quiet period for sensitive actions. For another embodiment, the force-burst command is asserted using enable and refresh control signals to facilitate low-power operation.

  • Patent number: 10673317
Abstract: A soft-switching and low input current ripple inverter circuit is disclosed. It includes two paralleled dual-switch forward inverter circuits with a single transformer, two clamping diodes, and one coupling capacitor. It has voltage-clamping function on the switches with a lossless snubber at the turn-off instant and provides enough leakage energy to achieve zero-voltage switching operation with low input current ripple feature. Two set of the driver signals with 180 phase shift each other are used to control the switches of said first and second dual-switch forward inverters, respectively. Each set of driver signals includes one PWM signal (D) and one near 50% duty cycle driver signal. Employing the proposed inverter circuit, the switch's turn-on voltage can be reduced to half input voltage compared to its prior art circuits. Consequently, the switching losses are thus reduced and efficiency is improved, especially in light-load operation.
