  • Patent number: 4241624
Abstract: An edge sharpener, in particular for sharpening the steel edges of skis, is composed of a main body in which there is a recess for holding a file blade and within which is inserted a clamping wedge so as to exert distributed forces on the surface area of the file blade when the clamping wedge is forced into the recess substantially radially. In a particular feature of the invention, the main holder has a flexible foil which comes to lie between the pressure surface of the clamping wedge and the surface of the file so that movement of the clamping wedge does not result in abrasive contact with the surface of the file. The lower part of the clamping wedge has an inclined surface which cooperates with a similarly inclined surface in the holder. The clamping wedge is further equipped with gripping surfaces so that, during manual use, the force of the hand on the sharpener to execute the sharpening strokes tends to move the clamping wedge more forcefully into the recess, thereby increasing the clamping action.

  • Patent number: 4240313
Abstract: The knives of a rotary cutter assembly are mounted on a centrally disposed pivot and elastic means are used to apply bias force to the knife ends to normally maintain the cutting edges of the knives substantially parallel with the axis about which the rotary cutter assembly rotates, the mounting being such to allow the knives to pivot when contacting the surface of a rotary drum against which they operate to assure that the cutting edges are parallel to the drum surface during the actual cutting through of a material web passing in a winding course on the drum. Additionally, means for adjusting the radial positioning of the pivots relatively of the said cutter assembly axis of rotation are included and means for locking the pivots in a particular position are also included.

  • Patent number: 4237645
Abstract: A trap for marine life which includes the combination of an enlarged trap in the shape of a truncated pyramid having an entrance opening in the top thereof and a trap structure mounted on the top wall which includes a peripheral open area to enable access to the opening in the top wall of the trap with the trap structure including a peripheral net which can be moved to a closed position when lifting the trap to retain the marine life therein. The openable and closable peripheral netting on the trap structure mounted on the top wall of the pyramidal trap includes a centrally located elastic member to retain the netting in a folded condition to define an opening generally coincident with the opening in the top wall of the pyramidal trap. The top edge of the side netting on the trap structure is vertically movable between a lowermost position in which the periphery of the trap structure is open to an elevated position in which the periphery of the trap structure is closed by the side netting.

  • Patent number: 4235036
Abstract: An apparatus for signaling if a fish bites a fishing line. The apparatus includes a housing containing a contact bar and an arm. The contact bar and arm are connected to a battery powered electrical circuit that sounds an alarm and energizes a lamp if they contact each other. The arm is biased into contact with the contact bar in the normal state. A cord is secured between the end of the arm and the fishing rod. The fishing rod is positioned by a rod holder so that it maintains enough tension in the cord to draw the arm out of contact with the contact bar. Should a fish bite, the end of the rod will dip, releasing enough tension for the arm to contact the contact bar to cause a signal which may be both visual and audible.

  • Patent number: 4233784
Abstract: An apparatus for edging the periphery of an ophthalmic lens to a predetermined outline or edge configuration, is characterized by a work holder for supporting and rotating a lens while moving an edge of the lens against a grinding surface of a grinding wheel. During grinding the lens is engaged with only a portion of the surface, and to prevent a groove from being formed in the surface a sensor automatically detects the highest point on the surface and controls movement of the work holder to move the lens thereagainst. In consequence, the wheel wears evenly, it retains a substantially cylindrical shape, all portions of its grinding surface are effectively used in grinding lenses, and formation of a groove in its surface is prevented, whereby the wheel does not require retruing or reshaping and its useful life is significantly increased.

  • Patent number: 4225071
Abstract: A device for severing selected lengths of so-called masking tape from a supply roll, which device is of the type that, for convenience in use, is attached directly to the roll, and in connection with which there has been obviated any springs or the like that adversely affects the tracking of the device about the roll. Instead, the cutting implement of the within device is pivotally traversable and thus effectively takes up the diminishment in the height of the type by partaking of this degree of movement.

  • Patent number: 4224755
Abstract: The trawl-net apparatus includes, between the net and the bottom, a closing-opening mechanism provided with a first control device. The mechanism holds the entrance of the bottom closed while leaving the rear of the net open. Under action of its control device, the rear of the net is caused to communicate with the entrance of the bottom. A folding over closing system is provided with a second control device and under the action of this control devices allows the mouth fold back rearwardly, then ensures, by a stopper, the closing of the mouth. The trawl-net with controlled opening and closing is advantageously used for selective gathering of pelgic micro-necton.

  • Patent number: 4223485
Abstract: A tool for lapping internal surfaces of holes. Lapping tools conventionally have an expandable working portion for variable diameter operation. Known tools tend to expand in a barrel shape leading to inaccurate lapping. The invention seeks to avoid this by providing a working portion of a tubular tool with slots in a plurality of rows each having several slots. Slots in each row are staggered relative to those in adjacent rows.
