Abstract: A method of constructing a gas discharge display device in such a manner that contaminants found within the completed display are significantly reduced. The process for assembly of the display incorporates the utilization of a spacer member having a higher melting temperature than the display's perimeter seal and is designed to hold the plates apart without letting certain portions of the sealing material contact the opposing substrate. The use of the spacer member of high temperature material permits a higher temperature to be achieved in the vacuum furnace for evacuating the contaminants produced by out-gassing of impurities in the dielectric and conductive materials as well as the glass substrates and the sealing material. The sealing time for the display after evacuation is shortened to prevent or greatly reduce the possible entrapment of impurities in the display during the higher temperature final sealing step.

Abstract: A collapsible frame for supporting a container is manufactured from two loops formed from a single length of wire which are intertwined to form a handle and sprung to form base members which are yieldably urged apart. An inwardly narrowed neck portion is formed intermediate the handle and the base members to provide points of support for the container. A containment loop encompasses the neck portion of the frame and inwardly urges the points of support against the container as it is pushed into position within the containment loop. The base members are capable of being pressed into a planar assembly when the container is removed to allow a plurality of similarly constructed frames to be compactly stacked.
Abstract: Metal annuli formed of chill cast metal for subsequent conversion into finished products are produced between at least one pair of inner and outer rollers forming between them a roll-pass, the outer one of which is driven and the inner one, of less diameter than the open central area of the annulus being formed and eccentrically positioned in said open central area, is free turning. Provision is made for moving the axis of rotation of the annulus being formd as the overall diameter increases in such manner that the relation between place of delivery of the hot strip with respect to the winding apparatus remains constant. Preferably the annulus forming apparatus is combined with a continuous casting apparatus whereby the formation of the strip and the forming of the annulus take place at the same speed.
Abstract: Method for fixing a zircalloy guide tube of a nuclear reactor fuel assembly to the steel end plate of said assembly, wherein the following stages are successively formed:the previously expanded end of the guide tube is engaged around a sleeve until it abuts against a first outer shoulder of said sleeves;said end is covered with a force-fitted ferrule and the tube is squeezed against the sleeve, then the upper end of the ferrule is welded to the sleeve above the said first outer shoulder;the sleeve--tube--ferrule assembly is introduced into an opening provided for this purpose in the end plate and having a shoulder, until a second outer shoulder of the sleeve abuts against the said shoulder of the end plate opening;the upper part of the sleeve is welded to the upper part of the opening of the end plate of the assembly. The invention also relates to an apparatus for fixing the zircalloy guide tube to the steel end plate.
Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided for forming elongated solid shapes from solid flowable materials such as metal powders, metal shot, fragments or segments of metal in a weldable condition by continuously feeding same to die means which includes two or more power rotated rolls or rollers between which the flowable material is fed and compressed to define its shape. In one form the flowable material or particles may be cold pressured welded into the shape defined by the surfaces of the rolls and their spacing. In another form, heat may be generated within or transferred to the material between the rolls by induction or resistence heating means disposed within or adjacent to the rolls, wherein the heat and the high pressure applied to the material by the rolls serves to fuse or weld the material fed therebetween into a solid porous or non-porous mass as it is fed through the rolls.
Abstract: A method of and a device for soldering components on thick-film substrates according to the reflow method. Successively, the substrates are preheated, followed by heating to the soldering temperature, after which they are cooled. A wave of molten metal of a given temperature is used for preheating, heating and cooling of the substrates.
Abstract: A method for jointing two pipes such as an aluminum pipe and a copper pipe by friction welding. The aluminum pipe is inserted into a bore of a ring made of a heat resistant material, the bore having a straight section and a tapered section continuous from the straight section. The copper pipe has a tapered end peripheral surface. The copper pipe is pressed at its tapered end, in a rotating state, against the end of the aluminum pipe so as to expand the latter. As a result, an ironing is effected on the aluminum pipe by the straight section of the bore of the ring, such that the aluminum pipe overlies the straight section of the copper pipe in close contact with the latter. Consequently, the tapered surface of the copper pipe is friction welded to corresponding portion of the aluminum pipe while the latter is being backed up by the tapered section of the bore of the ring.
Abstract: The specification discloses manufacture of clad rod and the like by rolling cladding strip on to the core rod. By matching the core rod cross section, cladding strip cross section, and roll pass design a composite clad rod of improved concentricity may be produced.
Abstract: In the manufacture of glazing panels comprising sheets marginally bonded together, in order to simplify and speed up production, a method of effecting bonding between at least one such sheet and one or more members assembled in marginal contact therewith, comprising bringing the assembly within the sphere of treatment means which is carried by a frame and causing the treatment means to act simultaneously on each side margin of the assembly to bond it together. In an apparatus for performing the method, in order to accommodate assemblies of different sizes carried by a support, each beam of the frame is coupled at one end relative to a movable coupling, whereby the end of each beam is movable along another beam in the direction of whose length its end coupling is movable, so that the size of the frame can be adjusted.
Abstract: Apparatus comprising a frame disposable in spaced relationship about a pipe uses a ring mounted thereon for carrying a welding head around the pipe. A welding torch is provided on the head for movement into the welding area to form a weld about the pipe during rotation of the ring.

Abstract: An electrically conductive path through an insulating plate (10) is produced by forcing sheets of conductive material (13, 14) into contact through a hole (11) in the plate (10). The sheets (13, 14) are forced together with sufficient force to produce a cold weld junction, which is then plated with a conductive metal (102). Dies for producing the cold weld utilize metallic spheres (110), rods (188) or chemically etched projections (228). Shaped dies (268, 272) form a crimped joint without a cold weld, and offset dies (246, 250) produce a raised junction (252) for use as a mount for a planar component. In manufacturing a printed circuit board (160) the cold weld die (158) is produced with the same drill hole pattern as used to form the drill holes in the printed circuit board (160).
