  • Patent number: 4717856
Abstract: The present invention relates to a cathode ray tube having a black matrix phosphor screen. In the cathode ray tube of the present invention, a film whose main component is oxide film is formed to cover a carbon layer of a black matrix formed on the inner surface of a face plate and a phosphor layer is formed on this film. Consequently, even if the carbon layer is thin, the carbon layer can be prevented from being burned and made white in the baking process so that a black matrix phosphor screen of high definition can be obtained. Thus, it is possible to provide a color cathode ray tube of high definition black matrix type type which is good in quality.

  • Patent number: 4710676
Abstract: A tubular incandescent lamp for use in heating applications where multiple levels of infrared energy are available from one source while providing for compactness in size and ease in manufacturing. The primary use for such a lamp is in the fusing system of a photocopy machine where speed in attaining the desired operating temperature greatly determines the machine's rating. In one embodiment of the lamp, quartz envelope is provided with dual chambers extending longitudinally therethrough. A filament extends longitudinally through each of the chambers and is hermetically sealed within press-sealed ends at the opposed ends of the lamp. The filaments are capable of being selectively or simultaneously activated.

  • Patent number: 4710670
Abstract: A front assembly system for a tension mask color cathode ray tube is disclosed wherein a novel high-voltage conduit is formed between the funnel coating of the tube and the mask to a shadow-mask supporting frame. Also, a magnetic shielding combination is formed comprising an internal magnetic shield and the frame. The magnetic shield effectively extends from the inner surface of the faceplate through the frame and into the funnel a predetermined distance. The frame multi-functionally serves to mechanically support the mask, the shield and the interconnecting means to electrically interconnect the conductive funnel coating, the conductive screen and the mask, and to magnetically interconnect the shield and the mask. The magnetic shielding combination according to the invention is formed by the frame and the shield to enhance the shielding of the electron beams from stray magnetic flux transverse to the tube axis.

  • Patent number: 4710671
Abstract: A color television display tube including an electron gun system (5) in an evacuated envelope for generating three electron beams whose axes are co-planar. The beams converge on a display screen (10) provided on a wall of the envelope and are deflected in the operative display tube across the display screen into two orthogonal directions. The electron gun system (5) has correction elements for causing the rasters scanned on the display screen by the electron beams to coincide as much as possible. The correction elements include annular elements (34) of a material having a high magnetic permeability which are positioned around the two outer beams. In addition a further correction element (38, 38", 38"') of a material having a high magnetic permeability is provided around the central beam in a position located further from the screen in order to correct field coma errors at the ends of the vertical axis and in the corners to an equal extent.

  • Patent number: 4710669
Abstract: A conductive connector arrangement for use in a CRT comprising a funnel having an internal Aquadag coating, a faceplate having a luminescent screen deposited upon its display surface, a ring formed of a non-conductive material having at least one recess thereon and interposed between the funnel and faceplate for supporting a mask in registration with the screen and an internal magnetic shield disposed within the funnel. The connector arrangement serves to establish the Aquadag, the screen, the mask and the shield at a common electrical potential. To this end the connector comprises a clip formed of a resilient conductive material and configured for retention in the ring recess. A first contact supported by the clip effects a conductive engagement between the screen and the clip. A second contact, also supported by the clip, effects a conductive engagement between the funnel coating and the clip. An electrical connection is effected between the clip and the mask.

  • Patent number: 4705987
Abstract: An electrodeless arc lamp comprises an outer jacket hermetically sealing and thermally protecting an arc tube inside which has an upwardly convex bottom center section. The absence of chemically reactive electrode material makes it possible to use metal halides other than iodides. The tube contains chlorides, bromides or a mixture thereof of scandium and sodium in a nearly equimolar relationship in addition to mercury and an inert gas. Good color balance can be obtained at reduced reservoir temperature and with less power loss. Reduction in wall temperature makes it possible to attain longer lamp life.
