  • Patent number: 8647430
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for manufacturing cement clinker in a plant having a cyclone preheater, a precalcination reactor, a rotary furnace and a clinker cooler. In the process, the flue gases from the furnace are conducted to the precalcination reactor, or even to the cyclone preheater. According to the invention, the precalcination reactor is fed with an oxygen-rich gas, the nitrogen content of which is less than 30%, constituting the sole oxygen source for said reactor, and a portion leaving the cyclone preheater is recycled into the plant so as to obtain a suitable flux necessary for suspending matter in said preheater, while the other portion, rich in carbon dioxide, is adapted for the purpose of a treatment for limiting the amount of carbon dioxide discharged into the atmosphere, such as particularly sequestration.

  • Patent number: 8628612
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for preparing, starting from a slag material, a filler for construction materials which contain bitumen or a hydraulic binding agent. The slag used to prepare the filler contains ?-dicalcium silicate. The process comprises the step of removing from the slag material a finer fraction formed by particles of a size between 0 and at least 0.75 mm so as to reduce the ?-dicalcium silicate content of the slag material; and the step of finely milling at least a portion of the remaining coarser fraction of the slag to obtain the filler. The invention also relates to the obtained filler, to the use thereof for preparing construction materials and to concrete or mortar compositions and asphalt compositions containing the filler.

  • Patent number: 8551245
Abstract: Hydraulic cements, such as Portland cements and other cements that include substantial quantities of tricalcium silicate (C3S), dicalcium silicate (C2S), tricalcium aluminate (C3A), and/or tetracalcalcium alumino-ferrite (C4AF), are particle size optimized to have increased reactivity compared to cements of similar chemistry and/or decreased water demand compared to cements of similar fineness. Increasing hydraulic cement reactivity increases early strength development and release of reactive calcium hydroxide, both of which enhance SCM replacement and 1-28 day strengths compared to blends of conventional Portland cement and one or more SCMs, such as coal ash, slag or natural pozzolan. Decreasing the water demand can improve strength by decreasing the water-to-cement ratio for a given workability. The narrow PSD cements are well suited for making blended cements, including binary, ternary and quaternary blends.
