Abstract: A carrier for holding a circuit board while passing round an automated insertion line has a rectangular frame with support members extending in from the inner periphery. In a particular example, the support members on three sides have support surfaces and lateral locating surfaces. Spring retaining members are provided, one above each support surface. On the fourth side, support members only have support surfaces in the example. At each end of the fourth side, a laterally deflectable cantilever spring member holds down the circuit board along the fourth side. An external flange provides a support for the carrier on a conveyor. The inner periphery is shaped to avoid interference with the solder wave and to avoid causing turbulence.

Abstract: A fish lure has a bouyant casing containing a pump and a battery mounted inside a watertight compartment providing positive bouyancy to the casing. A spray nozzle is mounted on top of the casing and is driven by the pump. The prepulsive force of its discharge causes rotation of the casing about a vertical axis. The underside of the casing is open and leads into a water chamber which fills with water quickly when the lure is placed in the water, to provide it with a self-righting capability. The outside of the immersed portion of the casing is of frusto-conical shape and has horizontally-spaced upright reflectors attached to it. As the casing rotates, the reflectors produce an occulting effect under water which appears to attract deep-swimming fish to it. A light may also be provided on the casing for night fishing.
Abstract: A decoy anchoring mechanism with a detachable reel and weighted handle is mounted vertically under the keel of a decoy using a pivoting cam and clamp assembly. The reel will automatically play out only enough line to set the anchor, and will permit the decoy to rise and fall naturally on the waves without significant drifting.
Abstract: A tubular reel seat includes a pair of reel-leg fixing sleeves having the contours of a virtually frusto-conical shape, and at least one of said sleeves is slidable over a tubular body. The axes of the contours of said both sleeves are located upwardly of those of the mounting openings for the tubular body on the larger-diameter sides, and are substantially in coincidence therewith on the smaller-diameter sides.
Abstract: A wire having enhanced solderability characteristics is formed by applying a very thin uniform coat of silver to a clean copper wire substrate. A coat of tin is plated on top of the silver. Heat treatment causes the silver and tin to form an interface alloy. The device can be other than a wire and the substrate can be other than copper.
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a modified fast fade rear axle housing of rectangular cross-section having a shortened neck shape which is bent by hot forming preferably at temperatures of 1350.degree. F.-1650.degree. F. to maximize the torsional strength of the housing in the expanded annular section where the transition zone joins the center differential receiving portion and the beam arms of the axle. Two U sections are welded after being bent to provide parallel legs joined to a web by arcuate corner sections. The axially extending curvature of the corner sections and the web are respectively convexly defined by a first radius R.sub.1 measured from a true origin at the vertical axis of the differential receiving portion where it intersects the longitudinal axis of the axle and a second eccentric radius R.sub.2 measured from a displaced origin and concavely by blending radii R.sub.4 and R.sub.
Abstract: A fishing weight, particularly for steelhead fishing, is made from a tube of thermoplastic material having at least one weight element therein. Heat is applied to one end of the tube of thermoplastic material so as to form a gob of molten thermoplastic material at that end. The periphery of an attachment ring is brought into contact with the gob of molten thermoplastic material. The molten thermoplastic material flows about the ring and through the opening of the ring, and is then allowed to cool and solidify.
Abstract: Fishing lures which releasably secure chemiluminescent capsules therein. Releasable mountings are sized to receive and snuggly hold the resilient chemiluminescent capsules and enable them to be readily removed and replaced, despite possible variances in length. In one group of preferred embodiments, the chemiluminescent capsules are mounted in the interior of a transparent lure for easy insertion and removal. Another preferred embodiment enables a chemiluminescent capsule to be readily affixed to a segment of fishing line using straps without cutting of the line. Another embodiment has the capsule attached to loops formed in the shank of a hook.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for preparing printed circuit boards having flattened solder bumps for the mounting of surface mount components is provided. Using well-known techniques, solder paste is screen-printed onto printed circuit boards and reflowed and cleaned to form discrete solder bumps. Using roller machines, the peaks of the solder bumps are flattened and adhesive solder flux is applied to the flattened tops of the solder bumps. The adhesive solder flux holds the surface mount components in position after placement and during vapor phase reflow.
Abstract: Method of connecting a semiconductor device to a wiring board in which electrical connection of metal bumps of a semiconductor device and wiring pattern of a wiring board is accomplished by pressure application between the bumps and wiring pattern, and mechanical fixing of the semiconductor device on the wiring board is accomplished by stiffened resin by use of which resin, the semiconductor device is fixed to the wiring board. By such separation of electrical connection and mechanical fixing, reliability of both function may be improved.

Abstract: An artificial fishing lure comprised of a keel-stabilized weight in combination with a hook fitted with a scent-emitting, weedless body composed of absorbent, resiliently deformable material. Said hook has auxiliary equipment attachment means for trailing spinners and the like.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for preventing a sag of a panel, in which plate to be attached to a skeleton is located on the skeleton supported by a support means, both end parts of the plate are gripped by grasp electrodes of a resistance heating device, current is caused to flow through the plate by the grasp electrodes so as to preheat the plate to a predetermined temperature and to thermally expand it, the plate is welded to the skeleton by a welding machine, and a residual tensile stress is developed in the plate by the thermal shrinkage deformation attendant upon cooling of the plate after the welding. In the case where the plate has a cut-away part, electric conduction members for short-circuiting the cut-away part are interposed in this part so as to form electric conduction paths for the preheating of the plate.
Abstract: An artificial fishing lure which provides a means for containing a liquid scent and dispensing that scent in metered amounts as the lure is drawn through the water. The lure contains a propeller at its rear end which turns as the lure is pulled through the water. Turning of the propeller conveys the liquid scent contained within the lure and disperses it into the water to attract fish to the lure.
Abstract: Switching apparatus for an electric iron control circuit includes a control switch assembly having a commutator switch and an on/off switch, including a pair of conductive members mounted on an insulating base. Each of the conductive members includes a plurality of conductive fingers interleaved so as to maintain electrical isolation between the conductive members. A rotary contact geared to the temperature control of an iron includes a contact member which alternately bridges and isolates the conductive fingers such that movement of the temperature select knob creates an interrupting signal between terminals connected to the conductive members. When the movable contact is in a predetermined position, a leaf contact is separated from a fixed contact so as to establish an on/off switch control. The base is pivotally mounted to the housing of the iron.

Abstract: A turtle exclusion device is inserted in a trawl body of a shrimp trawl net immediately before the cod end, and permits the ready escape of entrapped marine turtles. The device is a array of angled, spaced bars, oriented in the direction of trawl flow and affixed to the trawl net, supporting the trawl net through a net entry hoop. An arcuate hinged turtle escape door is attached to the excluder at hinge points intermediate the top and the bottom of the net hoop; the door when closed provides a continuous net section preventing the escape of shrimp, yet is readily opened by the weight and force of an escaping turtle, as the turtle naturally rises up the array of excluder bars. The arcuate shape of the doors particularly adapted to the shape of the shell of the turtle and is more readily activated by the turtle's attempts to escape.
