  • Patent number: 6371447
Abstract: According to the present invention, when a winch drum is in the wind-down rotation, operating a control valve is operated to the wind-down side in a state in which capacity of a hydraulic motor is set to small capacity by a free fall valve to thereby rotate the hydraulic motor to the wind-down side at high speeds, and at the same time, motor holding pressure is controlled according to an operating amount of the free fall valve by a holding pressure control valve to thereby regulate rotational speed of the hydraulic motor and stop the latter.

  • Patent number: 6367779
Abstract: A manual post puller mechanism having a lever extendable for increasing the amount of leverage applied for pulling the post from the ground, the lever being securable within a base and serving as a handle graspable by the operator for carrying the mechanism between locations. A chain extends downwardly from a chain engaging front portion of the lever which includes slots that allow the position of the chain to be adjusted so as to vary the amount of leverage applied to the post. A post holder mechanism carried at the bottom of the chain engages the post and defines an enclosed generally rectangular opening that receives the post. A pair of pivot plates coupled with the lever generally hinder an operator's fingers from being pinched during post pulling operations.

  • Patent number: 6364231
Abstract: A spinning reel spool configuration for preventing backlash as well as line-drop of fishing line off the spool flange. The flange is configured such that height of the flange rim relative to the perimeter of the bobbin trunk is at least partially not uniform. Various configurations are possible thus to define a peak bobbin-to-rim height A and a minimum bobbin-to-rim height B. The periphery of the total amount of wound-on line lies at the minimum height B. Accordingly, the portion of the flange providing the difference A-B in bobbin-to-rim height functions as barrier to backlash. Furthermore, the spool is deformed from conventional configurations, such that the shape of the spool bobbin trunk differs in different sections. The bobbin trunk in sections containing the spool axis is an isosceles trapezoid, however, in one such section, the bobbin trunk tapers forward regularly, but in another such section tapers rearward in reverse.

  • Patent number: 6349895
Abstract: A system for simplifying the design of winding guides is provided. The flyer arm of a winder built in accordance with the principles of this invention is positioned so that the extreme delivery point of the wire is aligned and practically over the slots of the armature where the coil is being wound. Additionally, the flyer arm can be easily and quickly substituted on the winder to conform to the armature being wound, ensuring that the extreme delivery point of the wire is aligned and practically over the slots of the armature where the coil is being wound. This feature of the invention contributes to a simpler design of the winding guide. Accordingly, traditional guide surfaces for capturing the wire coming from a distant position are no longer required.

  • Patent number: 6328240
Abstract: The present invention relates to a fishing reel that has a variable brake mechanism. The variable brake mechanism includes a plurality of small brake weights mounted on radially extending shafts. The brake weights are positioned within a brake race that is fixed to the fishing reel body. The brake weights are further configured to rotate about a spool shaft with the spool about which fishing line is wound. Upon rotation of the spool, the brake weights are urged radially outward due to centrifugal forces. The brake weights further formed with collars that extend through an opening in a cam collar. The openings in the cam collar define cam surfaces which, upon rotation of the cam collar with respect to the spool, urge the brake weights into and away from a position where the weights may contact the brake race. An adjuster dial accessible from the outer surface of the fishing reel body is configured to selectively engage the cam collar for rotation of the cam collar.

  • Patent number: 6299139
Abstract: A human power amplifier includes an end-effector which is grasped by a human operator and applied to a load. The end-effector is suspended, via a rope, from a take-up pulley, winch or drum which is driven by an actuator to lift or lower the load. The end-effector includes a force sensor which measures the vertical force imposed on the end-effector by the operator and delivers a signal to a controller. The controller and actuator are structured in such a way that a predetermined percentage of the force necessary to lift or lower the load is applied by the actuator, with the remaining force being supplied by the operator. The load thus feels lighter to the operator, but the operator does not lose the sense of lifting against both the gravitation and inertial forces originating in the load. The operator has direct contact with the load (through the end-effector) there need be no switches, valves, keyboards, teach pendents, or pushbuttons in the human power amplifier to control the lifting speed of the load.

  • Patent number: 6293522
Abstract: This invention provides a safety mechanism for a winch assembly when storing a load, such as a tire under a vehicle or a boat on a trailer, in a raised or stored position. The invention finds particular application to a spare tire, but those skilled in the art will appreciate the broader benefits of such a structure when used with a winch assembly for other uses such as a boat winch for a trailer or any analogous use wherein it is desirable to secure a load in the raised or stored position. A unique actuator is described with an improvement of the invention, which includes a control path therewith to control a rod end and thereby actuates in a preferred embodiment a latch by converting rotary motion to linear motion.
