  • Patent number: 8897137
Abstract: A communications system provides a dynamic setting of optimal buffer sizes in IP networks. A method for dynamically adjusting buffer capacities of a router may include steps of monitoring a number of incoming packets to the router, determining a packet arrival rate, and determining the buffer capacities based at least partially on the packet arrival rate. Router buffers are controlled to exhibit the determined buffer capacities, e.g. during writing packets into and reading packets from each of the buffers as part of a packet routing performed by the router. In the disclosed examples, buffer size may be based on the mean arrival rate and one or more of mean packet size and mean waiting time.

  • Patent number: 8897252
Abstract: A method for transmitting data in a wireless communication system including a User Equipment (UE) and a radio access network (RAN) includes the following steps. Firstly, the RAN transmits a MAC protocol data unit (PDU) to the UE. Afterwards, the UE returns an acknowledgement signal in response to the MAC PDU. When the RAN receives the acknowledgement signal, it allocates an uplink resource for the UE to transmit data.

  • Patent number: 8804599
Abstract: A tree topology in a multi-hop wireless network is configured by having each node other than the root node select a parent node within direct communication range, thereby becoming a child node of the selected parent node. Neighboring nodes provide selection values such as routing costs and local structural information indicating the existing topology in their vicinities, including parent-child relationships. The selection of the parent node is based on the received selection values, but the local structural information is used to bias the selection in favor of neighboring nodes with at least one other child node. This selection strategy reduces the number of parent nodes in the network and enables more nodes to operate as end nodes, which can then conserve power by carrying out sleep control.

  • Patent number: 8797944
Abstract: A mobility management system and method is provided for efficiently support mobility to an IPv6 based LoWpan. The mobility management method for Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) based personal area network (PAN) moving with a mobile router according to the present invention includes detecting, at a mobile terminal, movement of the mobile router; determining whether the movement is an intra-network movement or an inter-network movement, transmitting, when the movement is an intra-network movement, a neighbor discovery request message to a gateway of a currently attached network and receiving a neighbor discovery response message containing a temporary address transmitted by the gateway in response to the neighbor discovery request message. When the movement is an inter-network movement, the gateway receives the binding acknowledgement message from a home agent and establishes a bidirectional tunnel with the home agent.

  • Patent number: 8792352
Abstract: The present invention provides improved methods and devices for managing network congestion. Preferred implementations of the invention allow congestion to be pushed from congestion points in the core of a network to reaction points, which may be edge devices, host devices or components thereof. Preferably, rate limiters shape individual flows of the reaction points that are causing congestion. Parameters of these rate limiters are preferably tuned based on feedback from congestion points, e.g., in the form of backward congestion notification (“BCN”) messages. In some implementations, such BCN messages include congestion change information and at least one instantaneous measure of congestion. The instantaneous measure(s) of congestion may be relative to a threshold of a particular queue and/or relative to a threshold of a buffer that includes a plurality of queues.

  • Patent number: 8767600
Abstract: There is provided a protocol for a power save mode (PSM) in a direct link setup wireless network. In an aspect of the present invention, among first and second stations between which a direct link has been set up, the first station trying to enter the PSM transmits a request message, including schedule information necessary for communication with the second station, to the second station. The second station transmits a response message, including a status code indicating whether it accepts the schedule information or not, to the first station in response to the request message. If the status code indicates that the second station accepts the schedule information, the first station may transmit an MPDU whose power save bit is set to ‘1’ to the second station and then enter the PSM. However, if the status code indicates unacceptability, modified schedule information may be included in the response message.
