  • Patent number: 6645028
Abstract: A method for improving uniformity of emission current of a field emission display (100) includes the step of providing a first carbon nanotube (119) and a second carbon nanotube (118), which at least partially define an electron emitter (116). First carbon nantotube (119) is characterized by a first emission current capability and second carbon nanotube (118) is characterized by a second emission current capability, which is less than the first emission current capability. The method further includes the steps of causing first carbon nanotube (119) to be reduced in length at a first rate and, concurrently, causing second carbon nanotube (118) to be reduced in length at a second rate, which is less than the first rate and can be equal to zero, thereby reducing the difference between the second emission current capability and the first emission current capability and, thus, improving uniformity of emission current.

  • Patent number: 6645029
Abstract: Disclosed are color filter producing method/apparatus for producing a color filter by ejecting onto a substrate ink from an ink-jet head having a plurality of nozzles arranged substantially in a first direction while relatively scanning the ink-jet head and the substrate in a second direction substantially perpendicular to the first direction, so that filter elements adjacent in the second direction may be colored to have different colors. In the method/apparatus, before the coloring, landing locations for the plural ink dots to be ejected to color the filter elements, are measured and based on the measurement results, ejection timings for the plural nozzles are adjusted so that the plural ink dots land along the center line of each of the filter elements in the first direction. Therefore, it is possible to provide a color filter producing method whereby, during the production of a color filter using the ink-jet method, the occurrence of color mixing can be reduced, and to provide an apparatus therefor.

  • Patent number: 6638130
Abstract: A method and apparatus for attaching a tension mask to a mask frame. The apparatus is comprised of a clamping plate upon which is mounted a frame clamp and a frame deflector assembly. Above the clamping plate is located a mask clamp assembly comprising a forming slide. A mask frame is inserted into the frame clamp and secured on a plurality of axes to the top of the clamping plate. As the mask frame is secured, a compression force is applied to the mask frame by the frame deflector assembly and a tension mask is aligned and positioned to the top of the mask frame. While the mask frame is in compression, a forming edge on the forming slide conforms an edge of the tension mask to the mask frame where it is then affixed. The compression force on the mask frame is then released causing the frame to impart a tension force on the tension mask.

  • Patent number: 6632115
Abstract: A method for patterning an indium-tin-oxide (ITO) film by using a chemically amplified resist, causing no resist separation nor adhesion degradation even if the ITO film is exposed to white light after the resist development. An amorphous ITO film is formed on a wafer. A negative chemically amplified resist is applied directly to the ITO film, and the resist film is exposed and developed. The structure having a resist pattern on the amorphous ITO film is free from resist separation and adhesion degradation even if the resist pattern is exposed to white light, and therefore the later manufacturing steps are not adversely affected, enabling proper visual inspection. After the structure is judged to be acceptable at the visual inspection, the amorphous ITO film is etched using the resist pattern as a mask, and then the resist pattern is removed.

  • Patent number: 6632114
Abstract: A field emission device (FED) and a method for fabricating the FED are provided. The FED includes micro-tips with nano-sized surface features, and a focus gate electrode over a gate electrode, wherein one or more gates of the gate electrode is exposed through a single opening of the focus gate electrode. In the FED, occurrence of arcing is suppressed. Although an arcing occurs in the FED, damage of a cathode and a resistor layer is prevented, so that a higher working voltage can be applied to the anode. Also, due to the micro-tips with nano-sized surface features, the emission current density of the FED increases, so that a high-brightness display can be achieved with the FED. The gate turn-on voltage can be lowered due to the micro-tip as a collection of nano-sized tips, thereby reducing power consumption.
