Abstract: An identification apparatus uses a sensor to sense a sheet, thereby obtaining a parameter concerning a characteristic of the sheet, and identifies a type of the sheet based on a result of inputting the parameter obtained by the sensor to an estimation model obtained by machine learning using a parameter of a sheet as input data and a type of a sheet as supervised data, the type used as supervised data corresponding to the parameter used as input data. The apparatus performs re-learning such that the identified type of the sheet based on a result of inputting the parameter obtained by the sensor as the input data to the estimation model becomes the type of the sheet represented by input information if the identified type of the sheet and the type of the sheet represented by the input information are different.
Abstract: A method and system for maintaining privacy in private postal mail, such as privileged or other legal postal mail or medical mail, at a correctional facility comprising a privacy verification system to verify a privacy status of a sender and generate privacy status identifiers to be used on the legal postal mail. The privacy status identifiers when scanned or observed at a mail processing facility that processes incoming mail sent to inmates who are incarcerated in a correctional facility provides an indication to the mail processing facility that the mail is private so that appropriate measures can be taken to maintain privacy status.
Abstract: An application apparatus includes a removal controller, a selection controller, and a recovery controller. The removal controller performs, in a case where a removal event occurs, control for storing an operation state of an active application as an original operation state and removing the application from an operation target. The selection controller performs, before causing the removed application to be recovered as the operation target, control for allowing a user to select a specific recovery method from among plural recovery methods including a method for reproducing the original operation state. The recovery controller performs, in accordance with the selected specific recovery method, control for causing an operation of the removed application to be recovered.
Abstract: One embodiment provides a system for facilitating device discovery. During operation, the system detects, by a computing device, a first message which is broadcast from a source device based on a network communication protocol. The system determines a classification which is a type for the source device based on a MAC address of the source device extracted from the first message. The system generates a second message which indicates the MAC address, an IP address of the source device obtained based on the first message, and the classification. The system sends the second message to a device management system, which causes the device management system to add the source device as a managed device. The system enhances device discovery by eliminating a direct scan of all devices on a sub-network by the device management system for devices of a same type as the type for the source device.
Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes: a reception unit that receives, from another apparatus, data for replication of a function of storing data in a preset storage area; a validation unit that validates restriction information for controlling execution of the function if the data for replication received by the reception unit includes information indicating that plural networks are set in the storage area in which the data is to be stored by the function; and a restriction unit that restricts execution of the function if the execution of the function is instructed and the restriction information is validated.
Abstract: A computer implemented method, device, and computer program product for managing printing of content on a printing device is provided. The method operates under control of one or more processors configured with specific executable program instructions. The method includes analyzing a request to print content to determine one or more characteristic of interest (COI) associated with the request. The method identifies types of printing attributes associated with the request. The types of printing attributes include printing settings and a duplex setting to be implemented at the printing device in connection with generating printed output. The method determines a user duplex expectation (UDE) status with respect to the one or more COI. The method manages addition of a duplex indicia (DI) to the printed output based on the determining and processes the request.

Abstract: The image forming apparatus includes a printing device, an image reading device, a job management unit, and a document detection processing unit. The image reading device reads an image in a predetermined range in which a document can be arranged, as a read image. The job management unit acquires a front side image and a back side image of a card document, and prints the front side image and the back side image on both sides of a print sheet using the printing device. The document detection processing unit specifies a document image area of the front side image and a document image area of the back side image. The job management unit selects a larger size as the common image area size when a difference in size between the document image areas of the front side and the back side exceeds a predetermined threshold.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for decoding data streams are provided. A computing device can receive a decoder-input data stream encoded in a decoder-input format. The decoder-input data stream can include one or more pages of content. The decoder-input data stream can be initiated by an identifier identifying the decoder-input format (which may be the same as an encoder-output format) and a lookup table. The lookup table can reference objects within the decoder-input data stream and can specify locations of each of the one or more pages within the decoder-input data stream. The computing device can generate an output based on the decoder-input data stream.
Abstract: A control method includes outputting an estimated feature value based on first layout data generated by a user, generating an album creation parameter based on the output estimated feature value, generating layout data based on the generated album creation parameter and an image used for second layout data generated by a user, and updating the album creation parameter based on a feature value based on the generated layout data and a feature value based on the second layout data. The first data and the second are uploaded to a server. When a number of pieces of layout data uploaded to the server is fewer than a predetermined number, data in units of album double-page spreads is used as the first layout data. When the number of layout data uploaded to the server is greater than the predetermined number, data in units of albums is used as the first layout data.
