  • Patent number: 8675479
Abstract: A network layout between network elements and routers using network redundancy to improve reliability of network communication is disclosed. Upon detecting a link failure associated with a primary link between an access switch and a primary router by the access switch via a connectivity verification protocol, the access switch sends a message to the primary router indicating connection defect via the connectivity verification protocol such as IEEE 802.1 ag standard. After enabling protection switching mechanism to activate a secondary link between the access switch and a backup router for network communication, routing data streams are routed between the access switch and the router via the secondary link. In one aspect, the protection switching mechanism is operated in accordance with G.8031 under International Telecommunication Union (“ITU”) standard.

  • Patent number: 8670300
Abstract: A network device relating to a digital subscriber line (DSL) such as an asymmetrical DSL (ADSL) or a very high bit rate DSL (VDSL) is provided. In the present invention, the capacitors equipped into the network device are separated and grouped into two independent groups. When the network device runs out of power, the energy of one of the two independent groups is provided for generating the dying gasp signal, and the energy of the other of the two independent groups is provided for amplifying and transmitting the dying gasp signal to a Central Office (CO). Accordingly, the CO can be accurately known whether the network device runs out of power or not, and the respective capacitances of the two independent groups can be significantly reduced so as to reduce the cost of the network device.

  • Patent number: 8665890
Abstract: A Hybrid Cross-Layer Routing (HCLR) protocol designed and implemented based on the premise of being able to leverage a pair of proactive and reactive routing schemes in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs) which is used to compensate against wireless link effects thereby allowing for making more intelligent routing decisions. Compared to standalone proactive or reactive routing protocols, HCLR provides a two-tier improvement logic by performing local on-demand search in an n-hop neighborhood utilizing a 2-tuple cross-layer routing metric. HCLR is implemented in a Linux Quagga suite and its performance improvements compared to OSPF MANET Designated Routing (MDR) through emulation studies is demonstrated.

  • Patent number: 8665744
Abstract: A WiFi-enabled embedded device boots as a first access point. The WiFi-enabled embedded device communicates with a first wireless station to receive configuration parameters while continuing to operate as an access point. The WiFi-enabled embedded device then applies the configuration parameters internally to cause the WiFi-enabled embedded device to operate as a second wireless station. In an embodiment, the first wireless station discovers a configuration service advertized by the WiFi-enabled embedded device using mDN/DNS-SD, and automatically provides the configuration parameters to the WiFi-enabled embedded device. Convenient provisioning of the WiFi-enabled embedded device is thus made possible.

  • Patent number: 8665813
Abstract: The invention relates methods for triggering channel quality feedback for at least one of plural component carriers of a communication system available for downlink transmission. The invention suggests a mechanism for triggering channel quality feedback from a terminal where the downlink control signaling overhead for the selection of component carrier(s) to be reported on is minimized. One aspect of the invention is a new interpretation of a predetermined format for dedicated control information comprising a CQI request flag, which is depending on the status of the CQI request flag. In case the CQI request flag is set at least one further bit of the dedicated control information is interpreted as information indicative of the one or more component carriers available for downlink transmission to the terminal and the terminal is providing channel quality feedback on the channel quality experienced on the indicated component carrier or component carriers.

  • Patent number: 8665711
Abstract: A first network device creates a protection path to a second network device associated with a first service site, and creates a pseudowire between the first service site and a second service site via the first network device and the second network device. The first network device also detects a failure between the first network device and the first service site, and forwards traffic, provided by the pseudowire between the first service site and the second service site, via the protection path. The second network device uses the traffic on the protection path as a trigger to activate a link between the second network device and the first service site.

  • Patent number: 8654727
Abstract: The present disclosure provides a method and system for transmitting a position reference signal, which includes: acquiring a currently needed Position Reference Signal (PRS) sequence with a length of 2×NRBPRS, wherein NRBPRS is the PRS bandwidth configured by high layer signaling, which is represented by a unit of a resource block; determining the position of the PRS sequence in a physical resource block; and transmitting the acquired PRS sequence on the determined position. With the method of the present disclosure, a currently needed PRS sequence is acquired directly, or at first, a PRS sequence with the maximum length is generated, and then the currently needed PRS sequence is intercepted from the PRS sequence with the maximum length. The present disclosure ensures that an effective PRS sequence can be acquired in any circumstance, thereby ensuring the realization of the positioning function of the PRS.

  • Patent number: 8644164
Abstract: Systems and techniques are described which improve performance, reliability, and predictability of networks without having costly hardware upgrades or replacement of existing network equipment. An adaptive communication controller provides WAN performance and utilization measurements to another network node over multiple parallel communication paths across disparate asymmetric networks which vary in behavior frequently over time. An egress processor module receives communication path quality reports and tagged path packet data and generates accurate arrival times, send times, sequence numbers and unutilized byte counts for the tagged packets. A control module generates path quality reports describing performance of the multiple parallel communication paths based on the received information and generates heartbeat packets for transmission on the multiple parallel communication paths if no other tagged data has been received in a predetermined period of time to ensure performance is continually monitored.

  • Patent number: 8634429
Abstract: An apparatus comprising a wireless modem for use at a terminal, the modem being adapted to connect to the terminal via a first connection, and to connect via a second, wireless connection to a gateway between a wireless cellular network and a further, packet-based network. The modem is operable to connect to the gateway via the second connection using a point-to-point link protocol that does not require a physical address for the gateway, and is operable to connect to the host terminal via the first connection using a point-to-multipoint link protocol that supports point-to-multipoint connection and does require a physical address for the gateway. The modem is configured to intercept a message being conveyed between the gateway and the terminal, to generate a substitute address that identifies an interface of the modem, and in response to intercepting the message to communicate the substitute address to the terminal.
