  • Patent number: 9710435
Abstract: An apparatus includes a processor, a computer memory, a user interface, and computer-executable instructions which enable a user to formulate mathematical expressions via the user interface. The mathematical expression is composed from objects selected from a library of object types in the memory. The object types include primitive objects and non-primitive objects. Non-primitive objects contain at least one field which in turn can contain additional objects; primitive objects have no fields. The mathematical expression is defined by a computer-readable data structure in the memory, and each object and field has a mathematical significance assigned thereto. The data structure uniquely identifies each object and each field, and includes pointers to define nesting of the objects and fields in the mathematical expression.

  • Patent number: 9711057
Abstract: A question setting apparatus is disclosed, including a processor and a storage part. The storage stores problem information which maintains problem data including a problem and a correct answer of the problem included in a test sent to students, and student answer information which maintains answer data and a correct/incorrect answer determination result for each of the students. The processor processes test operations of referring to the problem information, sending the problem data to the student terminals, receiving the answer data from the student terminals in a given time for the test, and recording the answer data in the student answer information. The processor processes a progress display. A progress state is displayed in the given time and indicates an answer state of the problem data based on the correct/incorrect answer determination result. A display instruction is sent to the student terminals to stop the test.

  • Patent number: 9679340
Abstract: A method for delivering distance education for real clients, each either a teacher client or a student client, at multiple teaching sites and a system using the method are provided. A multi-layer arrangement is used to arrange computing servers to be one first-level server and one or more second-level servers each communicable with the first-level server. Each server serves real clients located in a pre-determined site. Furthermore, each server sets up a virtual client to execute the teacher client's activity command so as to locally generate application-specific data, which are then stored in this server. When a communication link to a student client is re-established after an activity interruption, resynchronization of the student client's learning-activity state with the teacher client's is regained based on the locally-generated application-specific data stored in the server that serves the student client without a need to burden other servers.

Abstract: Computer-implemented systems and methods are provided for automatically scoring the content of moderately predictable responses. For example, a computer performing the content scoring analysis can receive a response (either in text or spoken form) to a prompt. The computer can determine the content correctness of the response by analyzing one or more content features. One of the content features is analyzed by applying one or more regular expressions, determined based on training responses associated with the prompt. Another content feature is analyzed by applying one or more context free grammars, determined based on training responses associated with the prompt. Another content feature is analyzed by applying a keyword list, determined based on the test prompt eliciting the response and/or stimulus material. Another content feature is analyzed by applying one or more probabilistic n-gram models, determined based on training responses associated with the prompt.

  • Patent number: 9607524
Abstract: A method, a system, and a computer program product for creating and evaluating assessment sheets are disclosed. The method includes identifying one or more first location identifiers based on one or more markings provided in a scanned master assessment sheet. A machine-readable code (MRC) is generated based on the one or more first location identifiers. The MRC is then split into a plurality of portions and embedded at various locations on a scanned pre-assessment sheet. The scanned pre-assessment sheet with the embedded MRC is then printed to generate the assessment sheets. Thereafter, one or more second location identifiers are identified based on one or more markings provided by evaluatees in each of the assessment sheets provided to them. The one or more second location identifiers are then compared with the one or more first location identifiers. The result of evaluation is provided based on the comparison.
