  • Patent number: 10376195
Abstract: This document describes automated nursing assessments. Automation of the nursing assessment involves a nursing-assessment device that makes determinations of a person's mood, physical state, psychosocial state, and neurological state. To determine a mood and physical state of a person, video of the person is captured while the person is positioned in front of an everyday object, such as a mirror. The captured video is then processed according to human condition recognition techniques, which produces indications of the person's mood and physical state, such as whether the person is happy, sad, healthy, sick, vital signs, and so on. In addition to mood and physical state, the person's psychosocial and neurological state are also determined. To do so, questions are asked of the person. These questions are determined from a plurality of psychosocial and neurological state assessment questions, which include queries regarding how the person feels, what the person has been doing, and so on.

  • Patent number: 10255822
Abstract: A computer program product is provided for improving comprehension in rapid serial visual presentation. The product includes a non-transitory computer readable storage medium having program instructions embodied therewith executable by a computer to cause the computer to perform a method. The method includes determining, by a cognitive load estimator, a cognitive load of a plurality of words included in a rapid serial visual presentation by using at least one metric. The cognitive load is determined on any of a word level and a word sequence level. The method includes calculating, by a word presentation rate calculator, a variable presentation rate for the words based on the cognitive load. The method includes controlling, by a rate controller, a displaying of the words on a display in accordance with the calculated variable presentation rate. The rate controller temporarily reduces the variable presentation rate responsive to the cognitive load being above a threshold.

  • Patent number: 10235895
Abstract: An educational repository that can be made accessible to a structure-definer user (e.g., a teacher, web-page developer or editor). The structure definer can search or browse the repository to identify a subset of the content objects to include within a structure. An interface can allow the structure definer to specify inter-object relationships to include within a structure (e.g., such that a first object is to be presented to a learner prior to presentation of a second object). The structure that the structure definer generates can thus be used to determine which content objects are to be made available to learners (e.g., students, web-page visitors, readers or a structure definer herself) generally or at a given time. In this way, a structure definer can define a learning sequence that extends beyond just a general outline and controls actual object presentation.
