Abstract: A universal video-related lookup system and method receives a request for information associated with specific video content from a requesting device. The system and method identify a first video content identifier associated with the specific video content and retrieves first metadata associated with the specific video content based on the first video content identifier. Next, the system and method translate the first video content identifier into a second video content identifier associated with the specific video content and retrieves second metadata based on the second video content identifier. The first metadata and the second metadata are then provided to the requesting device.

Abstract: A product catalog system includes a product catalog having information regarding products for sale online by various merchants. The product catalog system transmits information regarding products in response to queries for a target product and also transmits information regarding products that serve as alternatives to the target product. The product catalog system includes a product alternatives module that identifies product alternatives based on information regarding a multitude of received queries and information regarding products that were selected from other products presented in response to the queries. The alternatives module computes an association weight for pairs of products that indicates the likelihood that the two products are alternatives. This association weight is based on the query and product information and further based on the number of times that the two products were the subject of a comparison query.

Abstract: A method for providing a compressed index for a stream of binary data records comprises steps of indexing a field from each record in a bitmap index, compressing stored bits in each column of the bitmap index by replacing a group of successive bits with a code and outputting the code. There is provided at least one of a first code for replacing a sequence of a first filling, a literal and a second filling, and a second code for replacing a sequence of a first literal, a filling and a second literal. In this context, a filling is a sequence of bits with the same value and a literal is a sequence of bits with different values.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for efficiently creating a data fingerprint to identify or characterize contents of a data object by using a selection function to select a plurality of non-contiguous regions from the data object, the selected regions each having a small number of bytes relative to the number of bytes in the data object and being distributed throughout the data object so that the selected regions comprise a sparse subset of the data of the data object yet provide a significant probability of including bytes that change if the data object were modified; and performing a hash operation on the data to produce a fingerprint based on the sparse subset of the data object. The data fingerprint thereby efficiently provides an indication of the contents of the data object, so that comparing data fingerprints can determine if the data objects are different if the corresponding fingerprints are different.

Abstract: The technology described relates to reducing a backlog of pending URL crawls in view of a limited URL crawl capacity. This technology is useful for crawling URLs with low latency. Because of the limited crawl capacity, uncrawled URLs from crawl requests are entered into a backlog data structure of pending crawl requests. Various criteria are applied to the URL's that are requested to be crawled, so that less important URL crawls are rejected early from the backlog data structure. This early rejection tends to limit the backlog data structure to the more important pending URL crawls, and tends to keep the average latency low by quickly failing the less important requested URL crawls.

Abstract: A power converter system is provided, comprising a plant having a plant input and a plant output; and a plant identification filter that receives the plant input and the plant output, and estimates the values of poles and zeros of the plant, wherein the plant identification filter updates the estimates of the poles and zeros, based upon the plant input and the plant output, beginning from an initial state; and a rate at which the plant identification filter updates the estimates of the values of the poles and zeros is slower than a rate at which the plant input and the plant output are received by the plant identification filter.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a data management system for AV/C descriptor data. The system includes a data container hierarchical structure. The system also includes a methodology for compiling data from the containers into a read buffer upon receipt of a request from a requestor. The data presented to the requestor will preferably be in a format that may be understood by other device requestors that may or may not be utilizing this same container system.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for performing data storage operations, including content-indexing, containerized deduplication, and policy-driven storage, within a cloud environment. The systems support a variety of clients and cloud storage sites that may connect to the system in a cloud environment that requires data transfer over wide area networks, such as the Internet, which may have appreciable latency and/or packet loss, using various network protocols, including HTTP and FTP. Methods are disclosed for content indexing data stored within a cloud environment to facilitate later searching, including collaborative searching. Methods are also disclosed for performing containerized deduplication to reduce the strain on a system namespace, effectuate cost savings, etc. Methods are disclosed for identifying suitable storage locations, including suitable cloud storage sites, for data files subject to a storage policy.

Abstract: A method for providing content via a communications network on a user's computer, obtained from a plurality of resources in an organized arrangement is provided. The method includes creating a show structure of nodes, each node identifying a resource from a plurality of accessible resources, at least some of which are network accessible resources. Without requiring user input, a plurality of the network accessible resources, identified by a corresponding node, are automatically accessed. Content corresponding to each of the accessed resources is automatically presented through the user's computer in accordance with the show structure. Advertisement content is presented to the user in connection with the automatic presentation of the content through the user's computer.

Abstract: A volatile memory manager of a data handling system can be configured to convert the one-to-many external reference into an external reference that references the common ancestor node of the contiguous region. Specific pathing and/or termination conditions can be contained in a Relationship_Path parameter of the external reference. The hierarchical data structure can also be loaded into volatile memory by the volatile memory manager as data structure references. The volatile memory manager can be further configured to perform various functions utilizing the external and data structure references.

Abstract: A method to optimize use of available storage capacity of a plurality of sequential data storage media, wherein the method provides (M) sequential data storage media each comprising a plurality of blockids, where the (i)th sequential data storage medium comprises an (i)th available storage capacity, and where (M) is greater than or equal to 2, and where (i) is greater than or equal to 1 and less than or equal to (M). The method then receives source data comprising a plurality of segments, determines a quantum of data to store, determines if the quantum of data to store is substantially equal to an (i)th available storage capacity. If the quantum of data to store is substantially equal an (i)th available storage capacity, then the method writes the source data to an (i)th sequential data storage medium.

Abstract: A Mixed Media Reality (MMR) system and associated techniques are disclosed. The MMR system provides mechanisms for forming a mixed media document that includes media of at least two types (e.g., printed paper as a first medium and digital content and/or web link as a second medium). In one particular embodiment, the MMR system provides for image matching portions of a document.

Abstract: Given a set of training documents relevant to a litigation hold, properties common to the documents relevant to the case and not common or missing in the non-relevant documents can be identified and used to generate a litigation hold query to be suggested to a user. After receiving a training set of documents, one or more common properties between the relevant training documents are identified. Based on the common properties, a suggested litigation hold query can be generated to return documents in a larger set that are representative of the relevant documents in the training set. Additionally, a query can be generated by iteratively improving a base query to return documents sharing characteristics of a training set of documents. Suggested queries may evolve as the training set evolves.

Abstract: The invention provides a method and system capable of allowing users to complete collections of objects without unwanted duplication thereof. The system automatically, and in response to user direction, determines if objects are available that would complete a user's collection. The system can automatically purchase and obtain delivery of objects identified as being needed to complete a collection. The system allows a user to statically define and derive the parameters of a desired collection of objects and can create, and suggest to the user, collections of which the user already has a portion. The system includes functionality that provides user-definable collections.

Abstract: A method is provided for analyzing the semantic content of network configuration files, comprising the steps of accessing configuration files associated with corresponding network components, the files containing commands that define the configuration of those components; transforming the commands into a structural database based, at least in part, on a non-grammatical analysis of the commands, wherein the structure of the commands is represented as the structural database; and constructing a semantic database of the configuration files by querying the structural database.

Abstract: A metadata management system for importing, integrating and federating metadata, including a configurable metamodel, a metadata repository for storing metadata whose structure reflects the metamodel, at least one external metadata source, which is able to persist metadata in accordance with the structure of a meta-schema, a mapping module for mapping the meta-schema to the metamodel, and a transformation module, operatively coupled to the metadata mapping module, for translating specific metadata from the at least one external metadata source to the metadata repository, for use in import, export or synchronization of metadata between the external metadata source and the metadata repository. A method and a computer-readable storage medium are also described.

Abstract: Groups of users accessing content are generated and modified to allow the users to more easily interact with each other. A number of groups and a maximum number of users in a group are received and used to generate shards. In one embodiment, the number of shards generated is based on the number of groups received. Each shard is associated with a unique shard identifier. In one embodiment, a user is associated with a shard when the user accesses content. For example, when a comment is received from a client device associated with a user, a user identifier is determined and associated with a shard. Using the shards, groups of users are generated. In one embodiment, a substring of the shard identifiers associated with the shards is determined and users associated with shard identifiers having the same substring of the shard identifier are included in a group.
