Abstract: There is provided a display apparatus which includes an input device having a plurality of video signal terminals including a digital video signal terminal, a display configured to display an input signal which is input from the input device, and a controller configured to set a search time of a digital video signal in accordance with presence or absence of power supply to a power supply terminal of the digital video signal terminal, and a connection status in a case in which the power supply is present, and configured to execute a search of the digital video signal in the search time.

Abstract: A system is provided that determines a media item for an insertion in a first media feed of a first channel based on at least a pre-encoded media content, metadata related to the pre-encoded media content, and audience-based parameters. The audience-based parameters include content recognition-based information that corresponds to a live feed of one of a plurality of channels. Each of a plurality of media segments of the pre-encoded media content corresponds to a different quality level and content encryption mode. Based on the audience-based parameters, the media item inserted in the first media feed, and a second programming schedule, a second channel is generated from the first channel. The second programming schedule corresponds to a modified first programming schedule based on the content recognition-based information. Based on at least the media item, a second media feed of the second channel is generated for distribution to a consumer device.

Abstract: Described herein is a platform for providing a resource catalog local to an appliance device, such that the appliance device is able to generate a transaction related to one or more resources within the resource catalog. In some embodiments, the appliance device may receive resource information within streaming data. For example, the appliance device may receive an indication that a portion of streaming media data is related to a resource. Upon determining that a portion of streaming data is related to a resource, the appliance device may be configured to store the portion of data in relation to the identified resource. A user may retrieve and/or execute the portion of streaming data at a later date. In some embodiments, the user may request that a transaction be conducted with respect to the resource and a corresponding transaction request may be generated by the appliance device.

Abstract: A content distribution platform is disclosed. The content distribution platform enables content creators to upload video based content onto the platform. Users can then view the videos or shortened versions of the videos. The videos may be classified/categorizes based on the contents of the video. Based on the categorization/classifications, specific product and service recommendations may be made to users. Recommendations can also be made based on tracking user behavior across the platform.

Abstract: A display control method executed by a terminal, the terminal including a display including a screen and at least one processor, the method including displaying, using the at least one processor, a first video content on a first area of the screen; generating, using the at least one processor, a screenshot of the first area of the screen in response to accepting a command to capture an image of the first video content being played back; and displaying, using the at least one processor, the generated screenshot in a second area of the screen. When the screenshot is displayed in the second area, the first video content continues to be played back in the first area of the screen.

Abstract: Methods and systems are disclosed herein for automatically indicating, during display of video of an event, actions in event that could satisfy side-game scoring scenarios. This may be accomplished by a media application that generates a live video of an event and retrieves data relating to a current status of a side-game in which a user is participating. The media application determines that a next play of the event could affect an outcome of the side-game and, in response, determines a particular action within the event that could affect the outcome of the side-game. The media application generates for display, within the video, an overlay on top of a playing space of the event, the overlay indicating where the particular action would need to occur to affect the outcome of the side-game.

Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for adjusting a size of a buffer based on a probability that a rewind request will be received during a currently playing segment of media. When the system determines that receiving a rewind request is likely, the system will increase the size of a buffer such that the rewind request can be accommodated using data from the buffer. When the system determines that receiving a rewind request is unlikely, the system will decrease the size of the buffer to free resources for other system components.

Abstract: A method and device for reversible story are provided. The method includes: when presenting a media stream of a current story, detecting a request performed by a user for generating an alternative story corresponding to the current story; in response to the request for generating the alternative story, determining a target path in a hyperstory, the hyperstory including multiple paths corresponding to multiple stories that describe different status change trends of one or more story characters, and the target path sharing a same initial segment with a path of the current story in the hyperstory and including a branch point where a story trend change occurs; determining a media stream of the alternative story according to the target path; and presenting the media stream of the alternative story.

Abstract: A broadcast receiving apparatus includes: a digital broadcast receiver configured to receive digital broadcasting in which contents are transmitted; a network transceiver configured to execute network communication; a data string converter configured to perform a mixing process for creating a new coded data string based on a coded data string of the received contents and a coded data string acquired by the network transceiver; a digital interface configured to output the contents to external equipment; and a controller configured to determine a state of the network communication of the external equipment. The state of the network communication of the external equipment includes a first state in which the network communication is in a communicable state and a second state in which the network communication is in an uncommunicable state. In accordance with the determined state of the network communication, the digital interface performs three types of output operations.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods for the storage and delivery of content over a network. In one embodiment, the network comprises a managed content distribution network, and the apparatus comprises a “cloud” digital video recorder (cDVR) server which stores, processes and assembles content prior to its delivery in a way that obviates superfluous storage, and gains significant network efficiencies. This approach also facilitates various pre-streaming processing in the video recording (e.g., cDVR) system. One or more content libraries adapted to facilitate cDVR content assembly and access are also disclosed. Secondary content (e.g., promotions, advertisements, etc.) can also be selectively inserted into cDVR content. Various access, business or operational rules and methods implementing the foregoing are also described.

Abstract: Systems and methods for, while a user is consuming a first media asset, generating for the user a recommendation of a second media asset based on a viewing history of the user. In some aspects, the systems and methods determine that a user is consuming only video of a first media asset, determine a first category for the first media asset, and retrieve a viewing history corresponding to the user. The viewing history comprises media assets consumed simultaneously with a media asset corresponding to the first category. The systems and methods select a second category corresponding to a highest number of media assets in the viewing history, select a second media asset based on the second category. Alternatively, the user can select the second media asset manually. The systems and methods generate for output the audio of the second media asset for simultaneous consumption with the video of the first media asset.

Abstract: A method, non-transitory computer-readable storage medium, and reception apparatus for extracting metadata, and an information providing apparatus for providing the metadata. The method for extracting metadata includes processing, by circuitry of the reception apparatus, content that includes the metadata embedded therein. The metadata is embedded as a watermark in a first portion of a video frame of the content. The circuitry determines symbol values of the watermark from the video frame based on luminance values in pixels of the first portion of the video frame of the content to extract the metadata. At least one of the luminance values is less than 16.

Abstract: Disclosed are efficient and user-friendly systems or methods configured to capture and share video data in real time, at a later date, or a combination thereof in an authorized manner via social media. In certain aspects, these systems and methods include capturing video, for example, from a “Jumbotron” during a sporting event or other live venue event in an authorized manner (e.g., abiding by applicable copyright laws) and sharing this captured footage with other via social media.

Abstract: A synthesized, advertisement-based, video stream is generated first by receiving a video stream essentially consisting of a representative image of a person, a video stream comprising a place, and a video stream comprising an advertisement, and then combining the video stream essentially consisting of the representative image of the person with the video stream comprising the place and with the video stream comprising the advertisement into the synthesized, advertisement-based, video stream for transmission to an end-user device via which to display the synthesized, advertisement-based, video stream.

Abstract: A portable information terminal includes a controller configured to control a communication interface to transmit a charging permission response to a broadcast receiving apparatus in response to a charging permission request data transmitted when a broadcasting program that a user of the broadcast receiving apparatus desires to view contains an asset that requires charging. The charging permission response is allowed to be transmitted when positional information indicates that the portable information terminal is positioned inside of a predetermined positional range and apparatus identification information in the charging permission request data, by which the broadcast receiving apparatus is allowed to be identified, coincides with apparatus identification information stored in a memory.

Abstract: A system is provided for dynamic scheduling and channel creation based on external data. A media item to be inserted in a first media feed of a first channel is determined based on a plurality of pre-encoded media content, metadata, audience-based parameters received from external data source and defined parameters. The plurality of pre-encoded media content comprises live feed and is segmented into a plurality of media segments, each corresponding to different quality level and content encryption mode. A second channel is generated from first channel based on audience-based parameters, insertion of media item, and a second programming schedule. The second programming schedule is generated from modification of first programming schedule based on content recognition-based information that corresponds to the live feed of one of a plurality of channels. The media item is delivered, in viewable format, in second media feed of second channel to a consumer device.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described for providing interactive content contextually related to an occurrence. An illustrative method generates for display, at a media consumption device, a display of the live event, wherein the display of the live event comprises the occurrence, determines a beginning of the occurrence in the display of the live event, in response to determining the beginning of the occurrence in the display of the live event, generates for simultaneous display, with the display of the live event, interactive content related to the occurrence, determines whether the occurrence in the live event has ended in real time, and in response to determining that the occurrence in the live event has ended in real time, ceases the generating for display of the interactive content related to the occurrence.

Abstract: A display apparatus and a controlling method thereof provides an optimal viewing environment to a user by differently applying image processing parameters related to image processing time according to content types of input images. A display apparatus according to an embodiment includes an input interface receiving an input image; and a controller configured to determine an image processing parameter based on characteristics of the input image, and control an image processing time for the input image to be determined in response to the determined image processing parameter.

Abstract: An electronic device includes a communication device electronically communicating with a content presentation companion device operating as a primary display for the electronic device and at least one augmented reality companion device. One or more sensors detect multiple persons within an environment while the content presentation companion device operates as the primary display. One or more processors redirect an event notification intended for presentation on the primary display to the augmented reality companion device while both the content presentation companion device operates as the primary display for the electronic device and the multiple persons are within the environment of the electronic device. When communicating with two augmented reality companion devices, the one or more processors can direct subtitles associated with a content offering, sometimes in different languages, to at least a first augmented reality companion device and a second augmented reality companion device.
