  • Patent number: 5231780
Abstract: A plastic shelled game bird decoy is converted to an animated decoy by providing rod-like wing supports rotatably mounted to the interior of the plastic shell and attached together to an operation cord, wire, rope, or the like in a manner that can rotationally move the supports away from the exterior of the shell body. Flexible wing members resembling the wings of the decoy specie are attached to each of the rod-like wing supports so that movement of the rods will simultaneously move both of the wings in a realistic flapping or flagging movement. The wings can be in separate pieces or preferably a single piece attached to the rods and to the back of the decoy shell.

  • Patent number: 5231784
Abstract: A device suitable for ice fishing has a base supported above a hole in the ice. A horizontal shaft is rotatably attached to the base and has a wind driven fan at one end and a crank at the other end. A guide member is pivoted to the end of the crank and guides a fishing line wound on a reel with a bait hook in the water. When the fan rotates the shaft and crank, the guide member moves about its pivot point on the crank. This motion causes the hook to rise and fall and move horizontally in the water to attract a fish. The fishing device also has a spring strip having one end attached to the base and the outer end includes a curved portion and a flag. A stop plate is slidably mounted on the spring strip. The spring strip in the set position has the curved portion positioned in a notch on a plate attached to the base. A reel, upon which the fishing line is wound is rotatably attached to the base adjacent the notch and has a trip pin which rotates with the reel.

  • Patent number: 5228227
Abstract: A coupler for collapsible joints consisting of a hollow body having an interior cavity, an exterior surface with an arcuate portion, and an arcuate slot extending radially from the interior cavity to the exterior surface over at least 90 degrees of the arcuate portion. A receptacle is provided for attaching a first support member to the body. An elongate fastening member extends through the slot, and is adapted to extend into a second support member thereby securing the body to the second support member. The body rotates about a first axis transverse to the fastening member to the extent that clearance is provided by the slot thereby positioning the support member between a first position in parallel alignment with the base and a second position substantially at right angles to the base. In the second position the body is rotatable about a second axis provided by the fastening member to alter the rotational positioning of the slot relative to the fastening member.

  • Patent number: 5228228
Abstract: A bite detector for fishing of the type typically used with a fishing rod and reel combination which is placed at or near the tip of a fishing rod, consisting of a lightweight, housing for a circuit having a motion detection means displaced between a power source and an audio or visual signalling means, or both, typically a light and a piezo-electric buzzer. The bite detector of the present invention utilizes a motion detection means which employs a resilient spring or wire which is not orientation dependent. The motion detector means comprises a first electrical contact, preferably a small, helical spring disposed within a cavity or passageway comprising a second electrical contact. When sufficient motion or vibration occurs, such as that as may be encountered when a fish strikes a baited hook, the first electrical contact will come into contact with the second electrical contact which in some embodiments may be the walls of the cavity, thus completing the circuit and triggering the signalling means.
