Abstract: A fishing rod (10) that includes a handle (14) to which a shaft (12) and reel (16) are attached. The shaft is formed with a bore (28). An open-mouthed flute (20) is attached to the end of the shaft distal from the handle. A fishing line (18) wound onto the reel extends through the shaft and the flute. A number of hooks (24) are attached to the fishing line (18) by a number of individual, relatively short, gangion lines (26). A weight (22) is attached to the free end of the fishing line (18). the flute and the shaft are dimensioned so that the fishing line and hooks can readily pass into the bore of the shaft. The flute is further dimensioned so that, as fishing line is wound onto the reel, the weight will abut the inside surface of the flute that defines the mouth. Thus, when the rod assembly (10) is not used, the hooks remain housed inside the shaft. This prevents the hooks from becoming caught on adjacent articles in the environment or becoming tangled among themselves.

  • Patent number: 5242098
Abstract: It is known to form a composite laminar metal structure, wherein two or more overlapping metal plates (11, 12, 21, 22, 23, 31, 32) are metallurgically bonded at their interfaces, impelling the plates (11, 12, 21, 22, 23, 31, 32) together by means of detonating an explosive charge (19), bonding of the plates (11, 12, 21, 22, 23, 31, 32) at selected areas (13) being prevented by covering the plates (11, 12, 21, 22, 23, 31, 32) at the selected ares (13) with a stopping-off material. The present invention improves this by providing metal sheet (14, 24, 34) which is placed in intimate contact with the stopping-off material, the metal sheet (14, 24, 34) being capable of metallurgically bonding to an adjacent metal plate (12, 21, 23, 32) at each selected area (13).

  • Patent number: 5239769
Abstract: A fishing line holding spool is designed to be mounted in a fishing rod holder on a boat and retains a length of fishing line between a fishing rod and a line release clip positioned below the spool. When a fish strikes the bait, the line is released from the clip and the additional fishing line automatically comes off the spool so as to allow the fish to eat the bait before the line becomes taunt. The device is designed to prevent the premature setting of a fish hook before a fish has adequately swallowed the bait. An audible signal may also be utilized to indicate that a fish has struck the line. In a modified embodiment of the invention, the line holding spool is mounted in a stationary manner to a support pole and a lever-adjusted clamping device is utilized to position the spool in any desired angular relationship relative to the support pole.

  • Patent number: 5235776
Abstract: A fishing floater is controllably slidable along a fishing line to automatically assure that a fishing hook connected adjacent an end of the line will be located close to the bottom of the water when fishing, regardless of whether the depth of the water is known. The floater includes a guide or frame member with a pair of spaced guides and an eccentrically weighted, buoyant hub which is rotatably connected to the guide member between the spaced guides. The fishing line extends through one of the guideways, around the hub and then through the outer guideway. With a weight attached to an end of the line and a hook spaced a short distance from the weight, gravity causes the weight and line to sink to the bottom, thereby pulling the line through the floater by rotation of the hub with respect to the guide member. When the weight hits the bottom, hub rotation stops.
