  • Patent number: 5365690
Abstract: An insect trap using attractant light, comprising a source of light and a housing can be mounted on a vertical surface or placed near a ceiling surface. The housing and the source of light cooperate to form an upwardly facing opening for the facilitated entry of flying insect pests and for the reflection of light onto the vertical surface. Insects that enter the trap are immobilized on a surface within the trap. Cooperation between direct radiant light, reflected light and an upwardly facing entrance for insects substantially increase capture rates.

  • Patent number: 5363589
Abstract: This fly catcher features a mating relationship between the tapered passageway of the fly entry path and the capture chamber that permits the capture chamber to be entirely separated from the passageway for easier cleaning of the catcher. The passageway is comprised of upper and lower conical wall portions so that each wall portion may have a different slope which allows the slope of each wall portion to be designed to maximize the width of the bottom entrance mouth of the passageway and minimize the width of the top exit port of the passageway without causing the height of the passageway (or the fly catcher) to become exceedingly tall.

  • Patent number: 5361528
Abstract: A trawling system for catching shrimp which includes a trawler, an outrigger carried by the trawler, an onboard suction pump, a trawl device that is adapted to be dragged along the bottom of a body of water behind the trawler, and a conduit connected from the onboard suction pump to a suction pocket of a net forming part of the trawl device for continuously delivering shrimp from the trawl device to the trawler. The trawl device includes two elongated trawl beams which are joined together at adjacent ends by a hinge connection to form an angle. Each trawl beam is composed of at least a pair of spaced-apart end strut plates, rods extending between the strut plates, a depressor hydrofoil beam for urging the entire trawl device toward the seabed as it is towed through the water, a net which has a suction pocket for collecting shrimp, skids for sliding on the seabed, and an open space adjacent the suction pocket of the net for allowing non-targeted species to escape.

  • Patent number: 5361531
Abstract: A fishing lure includes a generally cylindrical body with a head end and a rear section, the head end being of larger diameter than the rear section. A plurality of bosses are formed on the surface of the rear section. A sleeve member consisting of a ring having a cut through its height and a lip around its periphery at one end surrounds the body at the smaller diameter end. One or more streamers are attached to the rear of the body. These streamers are of a generally known kind consisting of a flat plastic member having a large number of separated strands and an attachment end which is undivided and which is wrapped around the rear section of the lure. The attachment ends of the streamers for the lures of this invention are perforated or cut with cut outs or ports to match the bosses so that as they fit over these bosses as they are wrapped around the rear end of the body and are thereby partially held in place by the bosses.

  • Patent number: 5358416
Abstract: An electric connector has a male connector housing and a female connector housing. The male connector housing is provided with slits substantially parallel with the engagement direction and cam plates respectively rotatable in the slits and integrally connected by a connecting member having a handle portion. The female connector housing is provided with an insertion guide wall extended from the bottom wall toward the mating face of the male connector housing, and vertical members erected at positions at the edge of the insertion guide wall corresponding to the slits. The small force to rotate the cam through a predetermined angle is converted into the pressure of the cam on the vertical members, and the male connector housing is pushed to the regular engagement position by reaction against the pressure.

  • Patent number: 5355615
Abstract: A fish line rudder facilitates carrying a fish line in current to either or both sides of a boat, or guiding the fish line laterally to current flow within a stream. The rudder includes an elongated body with opposed arcuate wing members. Top and bottom central radial rudder plates extend axially along the body between the two wing members. The body includes flotation at a forward section thereof. Line receivers are mounted near forward and rearward body ends, to slidably receive the fish line therethrough and define an axial "way" along the top side of the body. A line grip, on the bottom side of the body releasably secures a point along the fish line extending forwardly of the forward line receiver. The line extends forwardly from the grip to the fish pole and rearwardly from the grip through the way, to a hook. When in the water, the device will react to resistance offered by the fish line, to move the fish line laterally across current, to locate the fish line according to the fisherman's desire.

  • Patent number: 5355617
Abstract: An improved minnow container that is adapted to carry water and oxygen therein when in an upright position is disclosed. The container comprises a water receiving and retaining chamber that is substantially open at its bottom end and has a first opening in the top thereof and an oxygen receiving and retaining chamber that is substantially open at its bottom end and is sealed above the open bottom end so as to preclude the escape of oxygen therefrom when the container is in its upright position. A barrier means physically separates the oxygen receiving and retaining chamber and the water receiving and retaining chamber so as to preclude the passage of fluid between the water receiving and retaining chamber and the oxygen receiving and retaining chamber. The barrier means terminates at a lower boundary in a passageway that is generally below the barrier means. The passageway connects the water receiving and retaining chamber in fluid communication with the oxygen receiving and retaining chamber.

  • Patent number: 5353545
Abstract: A fishing fly, particularly of the dry fly variety, which orients itself when cast so that the point of the hook is naturally pointing upwards when the fly lands on the water (W). The fly is of a reverse and inverse design, having hackles (34) and wings (28) positioned on the curved shape portion of the hook (18), the wings directed tangentially along the shape portion at an angle to the spear of the hook (20). The dry fly is tied by winding the hackles axially around the shape portion of the hook so that the hackle fibers protrude radially in a plane generally parallel to the shank of the hook between the shank and spear of the hook. Preferably, the hook has a wide gape and an elliptical eye approximately coplanar to the shank and shape of the hook so that the eye can remain secured in a vise throughout the fly-tying process.

  • Patent number: 5351436
Abstract: An improved fly swatter including a working end and a handle having a terminal end which is provided with a longitudinally extending cavity in which a sound circuit board is housed. Said sound circuit board emits sound effects and/or tunes when activated by an on-off switch. In the preferred embodiment shown, said sound circuit board has a primary circuit which produces one set of sound effects and/or tunes and a secondary circuit which is activated by an inertia switch when the fly swatter strikes an object, thereby emitting a second set of sound effects and/or tunes. In one alternative embodiment illustrated, tile sound circuit board contains only one circuit which produces sound effects and/or tunes when activated by an on-off switch.
