Abstract: Techniques are described for using ATSC 3.0 to augment in-stadium (including in-arena) video feeds. In addition to a central stadium large screen view, spectators can use their mobile devices or view wall-mounted TVs around the stadium to receive in-stadium special feeds broadcast using ATSC 3.0, but not necessarily broadcast beyond the stadium and its environs.

Abstract: An apparatus configured to: receive comment information from a first device associated with audio-visual content for presentation at a second device and a comment time indicative of a time during the audio-visual content; receive timing information from the second device indicative of a time during the audio-visual content that is currently being presented; determine a relevant-comment time; and wherein if the time during the audio-visual content that is currently being presented at the second device is greater than the relevant-comment time, display the comment with the audio-visual content presented at the second device at a delayed time comprising: a) a time during the audio-visual content at which there is a reoccurrence of a first event that occurred in the audio-visual content at the comment time; or b) a time during the audio-visual content at which there is a second event, different to but similar to the first event.

Abstract: Apparatus, systems, articles of manufacture, and methods for viewer authentication are disclosed. An example system comprises memory, first instructions, and processor circuitry to execute the first instructions to send one or more second instructions to the device, the second instructions to cause the device to trigger collection of audio metering data from a sensed audio signal based on a programming schedule that is to identify when the program is to be broadcast, the program associated with a first time duration, the audio metering data associated with a second time duration, accept voting data from the user for a ballot presented in the program, and transmit the audio metering data and the voting data, determine a level of exposure of the user to the program based on the first time duration and the second time duration, and adjust the voting data based on the level of exposure.

Abstract: The embodiments of the present invention disclose synchronization of an online gaming environment with video streaming of at least one live event. A gaming application is configured to be executed on each of a plurality of user devices, simultaneously with the video being streamed. At least one instantaneous question is generated based on at least one action of the live event. Both the video and the instantaneous question are displayed in-sync with the live event video. The server also synchronizes an answer of the at least one instantaneous question with a next instantaneous question and also with the video being streamed, such that the answer, the video, and the next instantaneous question are displayed in-sync on at least one of the plurality of user devices.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided herein for performing an action based on a feature in a media asset. In many media assets, specific features appear at portions of a program that users find interesting. These features can be compared with a database of stored objects that commonly appear in media assets to determine the object corresponding to the feature. The context of the object in the media asset then may be determined so that an appropriate action is selected for the system to take.

Abstract: A content sharing method applied to a computing device includes: obtaining real-time image information of a target content for a content sharing event, obtaining user information of a plurality of user devices participating the content sharing event, presenting a virtual content sharing scene that includes the image information of the target content and the interaction information, obtaining authorized supplemental content corresponding to a target user type of the target user device, and presenting at least part of the authorized supplemental content in the content sharing scene. The user information of the plurality of user devices includes a plurality of user types of the plurality of user devices and/or interaction information of the plurality of user devices. The authorized supplemental content corresponding to a first user type is different from the authorized supplemental content corresponding to a second user type different from the first user type.

Abstract: Systems and methods for live stream control, including disaster recovery and/or load balancing, are provided including a first video encoding and distribution platform as a primary platform, a second video encoding and distribution platform running in parallel to the primary platform as a secondary platform, which secondary platform uses separate video transmission, independent video encoding, video packing, manifest generation, and an alternate content delivery network (CDN), and an application or module configured to direct playback requests to the primary or secondary platform, dependent upon an operational status of the primary platform.

Abstract: Embodiments and techniques described herein advantageously permit multiple users in disparate physical locations, using different devices and media content providers, to each initiate playback of selected media content, and to continuously temporally synchronize each playback with every other playback through analysis of the information corresponding to each playback (e.g., audio recording of the playback, information corresponding to the video playback and/or closed captioning information).

The method includes receiving, at the secondary device, first information based upon the primary content being output at the primary device, wherein the first information includes at least one of an audio and a visual signal, determining at the secondary device second information corresponding to the first information, receiving at the secondary device one or more portions of secondary media content that have been made available by a third device, determining at the secondary device whether one or more of the portions of the secondary media content match one or more portions of the second information, and taking at least one further action upon determining that there is a match.

Abstract: Systems and methods presented herein generally provide for the compensation of asset providers and/or communications network providers for the non-consumption of assets provided with programming. In this regard, when users elect not to consume the assets associated with the programming, the asset provider loses the opportunity to present their assets to such non-consuming users and is thereby injured in relation to the price they have paid for the delivery of their assets. In one arrangement, a reporting module at a customer device is operative to identify when a user skips an asset and report that skip event to the network. This information may then be utilized to adjust the bill of the asset provider and/or to bill the user associated with the skip event.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for inserting emoticons within a media asset based on an audio portion of the media asset. Each audio portion of a media asset is associated with a respective part of speech, and an emotion corresponding to the audio portion for the media asset is determined. A corresponding emoticon is identified based on the determined emotion in the audio portion and causing to be presented at the location within the media asset.

Abstract: Methods and systems are disclosed herein for a media guidance application that provides content recommendations based on recent activity. For example, the media guidance application determines that the user has stopped using the first device and is using the second device. In response, the media guidance application retrieves, from memory, a length of time that the user has consumed media on the first device. The media guidance application then determines the time interval when the user was consuming media on the first device. Next, media content is determined that the user consumed on the first device during the time interval. The media guidance application then determines a characteristic of the consumed media content and recommends media content on a second device based on the characteristic.

Abstract: Correlating information associated with playback of video segments is disclosed. Information associated with playback of a first video segment is obtained. Information associated with playback of a second video segment is obtained. The information associated with playback of the first video segment is correlated with the information associated with playback of the second video segment based at least in part on at least one of a client application identifier, a video session identifier, and a set of timestamps. Output is provided based at least in part on the correlating.

Abstract: A system and method for making reservations in a hospitality establishment are disclosed. In one embodiment of the system, a database includes multiple the media source files relative to guest room spaces within a room. A server which handles reservations renders a map view of the hospitality establishment based on obtained map data. The map view includes a graphical representation of the room as well as other rooms. In response to the room being selected, the graphical representation of the selected room is annotated with room reservation data and at least one of the media source files of the selected room. The server may execute a reservation for the selected room.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods for providing solutions to the problem of preserving original creative intent for video playback on a target display are presented herein. According to one aspect, a video bitstream includes metadata with a flag indicative of creative intent for a target display. This metadata may include numerous fields that denote characteristics such as content type, content sub-type, intended white point, whether or not to use the video in Reference Mode, intended sharpness, intended noise reduction, intended MPEG noise reduction, intended Frame Rate Conversion, intended Average Picture Level, and intended color. This metadata is designed to make it effortless for the content creators to tag their content. The metadata can be added to the video content at multiple points, the status of the flag is set to TRUE or FALSE to indicate whether the metadata was added by the content creator or a third party.

Abstract: Disclosed are systems and methods for rendering augmented videos on mobile devices and computing environment with limited computational resources. The disclosed systems and methods provide a novel framework for performing automatic detection of surfaces in video frames resulting in the creation of a seamless in-video augmentation object experience for viewing users. The disclosed framework operates by leveraging available surfaces in digital content to show augmentation objects in compliance with various pre-established contextual and technical constraints. The disclosed framework evidences a streamlined, automatic and computationally efficient process(es) that modifies digital content at the surface level within the frames of the digital content based on the contextual and technical constraints, and the computational resources of the device augmented digital content is rendered on.
