  • Patent number: 4983939
Abstract: A circuit breaker has a magnetic trip assembly which can be adjusted to trip the breaker for low level overcurrents in the range of five to ten times rated current. The magnet trip includes for each pole of the breaker a helical torsion spring having one torsion arm which biases an armature against an adjusting bar to form a gap between the armature and a stationary magnetic structure in which magnetic flux strong enough to attract the armature and trip the breaker is induced by overcurrent. A second torsion arm of the spring has a first portion which bears against and slides along a pivot member carried by the adjusting bar to adjust the bias force applied to the armature by a given amount per unit travel of the adjusting bar over a low trip current portion of the range of travel of the adjusting bar.

  • Patent number: 4947262
Abstract: A hand-held manually sweeping printing apparatus includes a manually manipulatable housing. A data input section, a memory, a printer head, a roll of ink ribbon, and an encoder are mounted within the housing. When a user holds the microcopier and sweeps it across a piece of paper, the printer head can print image data on the paper. Since the printer head is movable in response to various conditions caused by the pressure applied to the piece of paper, or surface conditions of the paper, a high-quality printing is realized. The data input section may be replaced by an image sensor, in which case the information on an original can be read and reproduced on the piece of paper.

  • Patent number: 4933654
Abstract: A polarized electromagnetic relay having a pair of first and second pole members which are magnetized to opposite polarity by a permanent magnet coupled thereto and which define therebetween a magnetic gap into which the other end of the armature extends. The first pole member and the armature are magnetically coupled to the base so as to cause a magnet flux of the permanent magnet to circulate through the second pole member, the armature, the base, and the first pole member for attracting the armature to the second pole member. Upon energization of the coil, a resulting coil flux circulates through the armature, the base, and the first pole member in opposing direction to the magnet flux for attracting the armature to the first pole member. A cover and base of magnetic material is included to fit over the base and be magnetically coupled thereto.

  • Patent number: 4933530
Abstract: A method and apparatus for bonding two tubes in a refrigeration sealed system by soldering. The apparatus includes a pair of jaws which are spring biased in the closed position and a pair of handles for opening the jaws against the spring bias force. The jaws include electrodes having arcuate recesses therein which are arranged in opposed facing aligned relationship so that a pair of tubes may be held between the electrodes. One of the pair of tubers to which the method is applied has a flared end with a larger diameter than the other tube. The ends of the tubes are first cleaned by mechanical means and flux is then applied to the end of the smaller tube. The end of the smaller tube is then slid into the flared end of the other tube in telescoping registry and the telescoped ends are clamped between the electrodes. A solder ring is then positioned around the smaller tube into abutting relationship with the flared end of the other tube.

  • Patent number: 4914410
Abstract: With a very small hinged armature relay of the printed circuit board type with dual-in-line terminal configuration intended for a very high number of actuations there exists the problem to design the armature resetting spring in such a manner that it withstands said high number of actuations without any risk of failure. For the present relay this problem has been solved by providing a leaf spring as the armature resetting spring being connected in a form-locking manner to the legs of a U-shaped armature (13) extending substantially in parallel to said legs and being connected in a force-locking manner to the coil former (10) constituting the relay structure, this in contrary to the usual way wherein said flat spring would be connected to the legs of the E-shaped magnet yoke (12). By this means it is possible to provide the leaf spring with a length at least equal to the length of the legs of the armature.

  • Patent number: 4831228
Abstract: An electrical resistance welding gun includes a hydraulically or pneumatically actuated clamping device for forcing workpieces into contact with one another, and a device for preloading and maintaining loaded contact between welding electrodes located on opposite sides of the workpieces. The electrodes are preloaded by a compression spring whose force is entirely independent of the action of the hydraulically-catuated clamping device. The electrode is supplied with electrical welding power and is cooled by circulating coolant through the electrode. A piezo-electric sensor provides an indication of the electrode biasing force and of changes in this force during welding. The force signal from the sensor may be used for feedback control of weld current and length of the period during which weld current is applied. The initial electrode force is easily adjustable by changing the effective length of the spring.
