  • Patent number: 4648468
Abstract: A portable, hand-held tool of the type generating vibration during operation is improved by a construction in which the forward barrel-like part of the tool is embraced by an elastomer-filled cavity or cup in a barrel-related handle, the handle and barrel being typically rigid but separate and secured together by only the elastomer material. The cup-like part of the handle surrounds the rear part of the barrel to afford an annular space, which is filled with initially flowable and subsequently curable elastomer, notably of polyurethane. The base or radial rear wall of the cup is spaced to the rear of the radial rear end of the barrel and this space is contiguous with the annular space and is also filled with the elastomer material. This wall has a through opening to allow for temporary deformation of the elastomer during operation of the tool.

  • Patent number: 4644832
Abstract: A position sensing transducer senses the lateral movement of the saw blade resulting from variable operating conditions. These sensed values are displayed on instrumentation for use by the saw machine operator, and are also used to automatically control work feed rates and/or rim speed of the saw blade. These automatica corrections and/or compensations maintain lateral movement of the saw blade within established limits. Optimized work feed rates and superior cutting accuracy result from this precise automatic control.

  • Patent number: 4643243
Abstract: A machine for repeatedly impacting metal castings in order to clean the castings of debris, such as sand, is formed of a wheel-like frame which is rotatably mounted upon a horizontal axle. The frame is divided into four equally spaced apart compartments which provide two pair of opposed compartments. The radially innermost wall of each compartment is formed of a metal plate arranged parallel to the axle so that the plate of the uppermost compartment is horizontal and forms a floor-like support for the casting which is then located in that compartment. Each plate is loosely supported upon springs and has an exposed end portion that extends transversely outwardly of the frame. An impact hammer is arranged to repeatedly apply blows that are directed radially towards the axle against the exposed end portion of the uppermost plate for vibrating the plate and for transmitting the forces of the blows to the casting for loosening debris clinging thereto.

  • Patent number: 4641562
Abstract: The present invention relates to a circular saw blade comprising a first annular saw blade having a plurality of teeth projecting radially from the periphery thereof and a second circular saw blade having a plurality of teeth projecting radially from the periphery thereof. The first blade has a greater diameter and a smaller thickness than the second blade and the teeth on the first blade are angularly set so as to partially extend into the cutting plane of the second blade. The blades are mounted coaxially adjacent to one another such that when used to cut through a workpiece, the first blade makes a fast rough cut and the second blade follows partially within the path of the first blade and provides a smooth, finished cut.

  • Patent number: 4639969
Abstract: This is an improved door closer mechanism for attachment to, or incorporation into, a standard spring type door closer, or for use with a standard spring type door closer. It is particularly useful for screen or storm doors. The unique feature is a reversible pawl and ratchet assembly operating on a rod between the door and door casing, which allows the door to ratchet open freely to any desired position where it is held by the pawl until a slight closing pull or push on the door reverses action of the pawl and allows the door to close freely. While the door is closing or is fully closed, reopening of the door resets the pawl for again holding the door open as desired. Reversing of the pawl is fully automatic, and nothing has to be manually touched except the door itself.

  • Patent number: 4637289
Abstract: A saw wherein an arbor is mounted to drive a circular saw blade from below a flat work surface upward through a slot in the work surface to sever any work piece suitably disposed on the work surface. A guard/clamp above the work surface is lowered to engage and clamp each such work piece on the work surface before the saw blade begins its ascent. A sensor is mounted on the guard/clamp to sense the presence of a work piece at a location immediately on the work piece feed side of the saw blade and adjacent a saw fence. The sensor prevents operation of the saw when the sensor fails to establish the presence of a work piece on the work surface.

  • Patent number: 4632609
Abstract: To achieve reliable fastening of a toothed cutter carrier on the toothed bearing surface of a tool body, and to achieve favorable force ratios, in a rotary cutting tool, in particular a drilling head, the tooth formation of the bearing surface is constructed in a sawtooth shape with steep tooth flanks and inclined tooth flanks, the steep tooth flanks being disposed substantially on that side of the teeth which is orientated towards the cutting element of the cutter carrier. The tooth formation on the cutter carrier is constructed so that it is substantially similar to the tooth formation of the bearing surface for interengagement therewith.

  • Patent number: 4628781
Abstract: A lumber mill system includes an endless lower spike chain conveyor, log loading charger for loading logs one at a time onto such charger such that the geometrical center is laterally offset from the longitudinal centerline of the conveyor and microprocessor for determining the optimum amount of lateral offset, if any, to maximize lumber recovery from the log. The log loading charger includes a frame pivotable about a pivot axis, axial carriage supported by the frame for horizontal movement in the same direction as the lower conveyor, and tandem radial carriages supported by the axial carriage for movement toward and away from the pivot axis. The radial carriages support clamp arms for gripping the log. The charger operates to grip a log adjacent the lower conveyor, swing the log above the lower conveyor to the predetermined laterally offset position, and lower the log onto the lower conveyor while simultaneously moving the log downstream with the conveyor.

  • Patent number: 4628780
Abstract: An air ejector system for use in a horizontal or vertical stamping press which reciprocates the moving member of a die set to produce an annular product. Air is introduced through a central punch for shedding and ejecting a slug. Air is also introduced through an annular knockout for shedding and ejecting a coaxially produced product. A resilient member retains the knockout in a position rearwardly of the punch and button die during the forward punching stroke. Valving sequentially introduces the air through the punch and knockout at the appropriate points in the reciprocating stamping cycle.

  • Patent number: 4627500
Abstract: In the coking of coking coal according to the compression process the coking coal is compressed by power hammers before its introduction into the coke oven, whereby these hammers having elongated hammer rods are lifted by means of driven cam disks acting upon them by sections, and then released to drop. The cam shafts bearing the cam disks, corresponding to the number of power-hammer rods, are individually pivoted. Their bearing points on both sides of the hammer rods are movable synchronously and in the same direction and are uniformly actuated by a hydraulic system. Thereby, the individual cam shafts can be driven and pressed against the individual power-hammer rods, according to given data. An even and uniform lifting of all rods and power hammers is achieved by that.

  • Patent number: 4625812
Abstract: Pneumatic impact hammer for driving a frost plug into an engine block. The hammer includes a port for interconnection to a supply of compressed air, a chamber, a trigger, an elongate tube, a mallet slidably mounted within the tube, and a driver extending from one end of the tube. Compressed air is received by the chamber. Upon depressing the trigger, the compressed air within the chamber is substantially instantaneously applied to the back of the mallet. Consequently, the mallet is driven down the length of the tube toward the driver. The mallet impacts against the driver which, in turn, drives the frost plug into the engine.

  • Patent number: 4624164
Abstract: A hydraulic shearing machine for cutting steel sheets and the like in which the lower blade is fixed between two vertical end-plates of the frame while the upper blade is carried by a movable apron. The support provided for the lower cutting blade consists of a hollow box which extends horizontally between the vertical end-plates of the shearing-machine frame and only the ends of which are attached to the frame. The lower blade is fixed against one of the side walls of the support box so as to be displaced with respect to the theoretical center of rotation of said support box about its own axis. In consequence, the vertical forces exerted on the lower blade at the time of utilization of the shearing machine tend to produce a twisting movement of the support box, thus providing compensation for the horizontal flexural displacement of the box under the action of the horizontal forces.
