Abstract: The invention is in the field of growth of Mycobacteria. In particular, agents have been identified which enhance the growth of Mycobacterial species, which are naturally slow-growing. Such agents can therefore be used in the identification of Mycobacteria and in the diagnosis of Mycobacterial infections.

Abstract: The present invention provides methods of detecting analytes using particles having different physico-chemical properties, such as buoyancy, size, density, spectral characteristics, and/or binding properties, in solution-based sandwich assays and solution-based competition assays. The methods can be performed using rotors and bench-top centrifuges and provide for rapid, qualitative and quantitative detection of analytes. The present invention also provides kits that can be used to perform the methods, and mixtures containing particles suitable for the methods.
Abstract: Assay cassettes and testing devices that can be used to provide rapid, accurate, affordable, laboratory-quality testing at the point of care. Such assay cassettes and testing devices are designed to provide rapid, quantitative test results in a point-of-care setting or the like. Likewise, such assay cassettes and testing devices may eliminate or replace expensive, centralized clinical testing equipment and technical personnel. Such testing device may include automated data reporting and decision support. Methods for performing point of care diagnostic tests are also disclosed.
Abstract: Devices, systems, or methods are disclosed herein for treatment of disease in a vertebrate subject. The device can include a quasi-planar substrate; and one or more laterally-mobile effector molecule types at least partially embedded within the quasi-planar substrate, wherein the one or more laterally-mobile effector molecule types is configured to interact with one or more cell types. The device can further include one or more sensors configured to detect at least one aspect of an interaction between the at least one of the one or more laterally-mobile effector molecule types and the one or more cell types; and a controller in communication with the one or more sensors, wherein the controller is configured to responsively initiate modification of at least one of the one or more laterally-mobile effector molecule types, the quasi-planar substrate, and the one or more cell types.
Abstract: A carbon nanofiber-based label free electrochemical immunosensor for sensitive detection of proteins in a fluid is described. The immunosensor as disclosed is a modified carbon nano-fiber screen printed electrode (CNF-SPE) wherein the electrode is modified with a carboxyphenyl film and then activated by EDC/NHS. Further, a monolayer of 4-aminophenylboronic acid coating was then fabricated onto the electrode to allow orientation of antibody via bonding of boronic acid-saccharide of oligosaccharide moiety located on the Fc region of antibody. The modified electrode is then used for the detection of a hormone such as rbST in a fluid with a detection limit of 1 pg/ml.

Abstract: This disclosure describes a magnetic-field image sensor and method of use. In accordance with implementations of the magnetic-field image sensor, a sample can be placed on top of the magnetic field image sensor. An image of the magnetic nanoparticles or superparamagnetic nanoparticles can be created immediately afterwards based upon detection of a change in magnetic field caused by the magnetic nanoparticles or superparamagnetic nanoparticles. From this image, computer imaging algorithms can determine attributes (e.g., size, shape, type, quantity, distribution, etc.) of the target entity.
