  • Patent number: 8498004
Abstract: An image processing apparatus includes a storage unit configured to store information about an other image processing apparatus different than the image processing apparatus that operates with the image processing apparatus, an acquiring unit configured to acquire function information indicating a function provided by a first image processing apparatus, and a control unit. In the control unit, in a case that a comparison result of the comparing unit indicates that the first image processing apparatus includes at least one function not provided by the image processing apparatus, information about the first image processing apparatus is stored in the storage unit, and in a case that a comparison result of the comparing unit indicates that the first image processing apparatus doesn't include at least one function not provided by the image processing apparatus, information about the first image processing apparatus is not stored in the storage unit.

  • Patent number: 8493593
Abstract: It is an object of the present invention to provide an image forming apparatus that achieves reduction in power and resumption time by selectively resuming a function which a user desires when a storage medium in which identification information for identifying the user is stored is exposed so as to perform resumption from the energy saving state. The image forming apparatus includes: two or more functions of a copy function, a printer function, a scan function and a FAX function; a radio communication portion that performs radio communication with a storage medium in which identification information for identifying a user is stored; and a control portion that when the radio communication portion obtains the identification information from the storage medium in a case where part of the apparatus is in an energy saving state, selects a function to be resumed from the energy saving state according to an exposure state in which the storage medium is exposed to the radio communication portion.

  • Patent number: 8488143
Abstract: An automated method of detecting the internet protocol (IP) address of a network printer that is in communication with a computer having a registry permits the printer to be tested in a way that bypasses any print driver software. The test thus determines whether the printer is operative and communicating with the computer, and the test is unaffected by possible defects in the print driver software. A list of printers which the registry indicates have been installed on the computer is first generated, this list including the network printer. One or more vectors are then generated which contain any IP or URL addresses, port names, or printer names that the registry associates with the network printer, its port, its port monitor, or its server.

  • Patent number: 8477346
Abstract: What is disclosed is a novel system and method for configuring a client print queue in a networked printing environment. In one embodiment, a client print queue corresponding to a server print queue is initialized on a client device. The server print queue is configured with a default location of a configuration file that contains at least one print queue configuration parameter. In response to a command at the client device to utilize the client print queue, the client device receives the default location of the configuration file and retrieves at least one print queue configuration parameter from the configuration file. The client print queue is then configured, also in response to the command at the client device to utilize the client print queue, according to the retrieved at least one print queue configuration parameter.

  • Patent number: 8472044
Abstract: The data amount of department counters stored in a database is reduced. In department counter information, departments with their data not having been updated in a predetermined period are set as ineffective departments so as not to register these departments in the database. This allows a reduction of department counter data maintained in a central control device because only effective departments are registered in the database. The validity of effective department/ineffective department classification is determined by comparison with the value of charge counters acquired along with the department counters.

  • Patent number: 8405840
Abstract: A method for minimizing re-imaging procedures for an imaging device is disclosed. A first set of imaging instructions for a hard copy of a document is received at an imaging device. The hard copy of the document is scanned in accordance with the first set of imaging instructions to create image data. The image data is retained in memory at an identified location until a purging event occurs. A second set of imaging instructions is received at the imaging device. It is then determined whether the hard copy of the document has been removed from the processing path of the imaging device since the scanning occurred using at least one sensor. If the hard copy of the document has not been removed, imaging output is produced in accordance with the second set of instructions using the image data without rescanning a hard copy of the document.

  • Patent number: 8405846
Abstract: A system and method are provided for maintaining a device job history. The method comprises: sending jobs to a device for performance; making a record of the jobs; maintaining the job record after the performance of the job; and, filtering the job record to retain a history associated with a client. The job record may be maintained at the device performing the job, on a server managing jobs sent to the device, or with the client sending the job. The client may choose to monitor such processes as device status, job status, or the communications to the device. In one aspect, the method further comprises viewing the filtered job record. Then, a viewable copy of the filtered job record can be accessed from the client, the server, or a web page associated with the device.
