  • Patent number: 5141409
Abstract: There is disclosed a durable compression machine that can be used as a compressor, pump, or actuator. The machine comprises a casing in which a flexible membrane is accommodated. The inside of the casing is partitioned into a compression chamber and a back pressure chamber by the membrane consisting of a diaphragm spring or bellows. The membrane is reciprocated to compress the fluid inside the compression chamber and to force the fluid out of the compression chamber. The back pressure chamber is sealed with a gas under pressure. The pressure inside the back pressure chamber acts in opposition to the pressure inside the compression chamber and is maintained at about half of the pressure obtained in the compression chamber during compression to suppress the flexure of the membrane.

  • Patent number: 5140747
Abstract: A method of assembling a peristaltic pump having a motor housing having a driveshaft extending therefrom and a pump housing containing a pump including a rotor mounted on a stub shaft extending through the pump housing wherein the motor housing and the pump housing are detachably connected together. They are assembled by positioning the motor housing and the pump housing so as to axially align the stub shaft and the driveshaft, and moving the pump housing towards the motor housing in the axial direction of the driveshaft so that the driveshaft enters the pump housing and engages the rotor while the stub shaft is urged axially out of the pump housing. When the pump housing contains two or more rotors the stub shaft preserves the alignment of the rotors both during manufacture of the pump assembly and transportation of the pump housing.

  • Patent number: 5139392
Abstract: A refrigerant compressor assembly includes a shaft rotatably supported in a housing. A swash plate in disposed on the shaft, centrally within the housing. Three double-ended pistons are reciprocally supported on the swash plate within respective front and rear compression chambers for creating alternating compression and suction strokes in response to rotation of the swash plate. Refrigerant fluid discharged from the three front compression chambers is directed to a front discharge cavity and from the three rear compression chambers to a rear discharge cavity. The discharged fluid from the respective front and rear discharge cavities are each divided and then routed through equally restrictive flow passages to a primary and secondary mixing chamber. A first exhaust channel extends from the primary mixing chamber to an exhaust port of the compressor.

  • Patent number: 5137435
Abstract: A reciprocating primary fluid driven motor has a stepped piston in a housing having a center hanging actuator rod which extends into the piston to periodically cooperate with an axially shiftable connector member in the piston which operates valves which establish the reciprocating stroke of the piston by opening and closing valve members on the larger and smaller faces of the stepped piston. A block member with compression spring drivers pivotally mounted inside the piston slides on the actuator rod during movement of the piston. The drivers are compressed in response to spaced stops on the actuator rod during continued movement of the piston until a sudden over-center movement of the block member shifts the connector to operate the valve members to cause reciprocation of the piston. Quiet operation during shifting is provided by shock absorbers. No sliding seal with the actuator rod is necessary. Provision for bleeding air from the housing chamber facilitates startup.

  • Patent number: 5133647
Abstract: A pulsation damper is disclosed for use in a standard air-conditioning compressor for an automobile. The pulsation damper consists of a body portion and a cap portion and the cap portion has an outer diameter that is dimensioned to be press fit within the outlet opening of the housing of the air compressor. Thus, the pulsation damper can be retro-fit in a standard air compressor housing and will not increase the overall size of the housing or require modification in the connecting tubing. The body of the pulsation damper consists of longitudinal groove-like passages which direct the fluid flow from one of two internal compressor discharge lines to a point where it opposes and is intermixed with the fluid flow from another internal discharge line. This opposition and intermixing of the two fluid flow paths, which have pressure pulses which are out of synchronism with each other, tends to cancel or reduce such pulses.
