  • Patent number: 4793809
Abstract: Improved dental porcelain compositions and resultant fused porcelain dental restorations are provided which exhibit enhanced strength properties as compared with conventional porcelains. The fiber-filled porcelain compositions of the invention are supplemented with zirconium oxide ceramic fibers in relatively minor amounts of less than 5% by weight. The reinforcing fibers are advantageously predominantly zirconium oxide, and have a relatively short average length of from about 1/32 to 1/4 of an inch. These fibers are normally randomly oriented and homogeneously dispersed throughout the fiber-filled porcelain composition, in order to give a reinforcing fiber network. A completed restoration in accordance with the invention would typically include a core portion formed of the fiber filled porcelain, with the outer portion of the restoration being fabricated from conventional non-fiber reinforced porcelain.

  • Patent number: 4785060
Abstract: A soil release promoting copolymer of polyethylene terephthalate and polyoxyethylene terephthalate (PET-POET) having a weight average molecular weight in the range of 15,000 to 35,000, and a PET:POET molar ratio of about 2:1 to 6:1, is prepared by reacting polyethylene terephthalate with polyethylene glycol in the presence of a catalyst system including both antimony trioxide and calcium acetate or both titanium isopropoxide and sodium isopropoxide. The PET-POET copolymer provides improved soil release properties for oily and greasy stains from polyester fabrics at high and low wash temperatures and is stable even at high alkalinity levels. The starting PET can advantageously be obtained from scrap bottles.

  • Patent number: 4780102
Abstract: Processes for dyeing, print-dyeing and differentially dyeing smooth-dry cellulose containing fabric are disclosed. Cellulose containing fabric is treated with a solution of crosslinking agent and a reactive additive which can be either polyethylene glycol or choline quaternary. The resultant fabric can then be dyed with a cellulosic dye. Print-dyeing is accomplished by selective application of a choline quaternary to a fabric padded crosslinking agent or by printing with a combination of crosslinking agent and choline quaternary on an untreated cellulosic fabric. These treatments are then followed by curing and dyeing. Differential dyeing is accomplished by first treating separate yarns with different solutions containing crosslinking agent with and without choline quaternary, drying, knitting, curing and dyeing the knitted fabric.

  • Patent number: 4776857
Abstract: The invention concerns a new system to dye hair and/or skin. The system comprises the use of a hydroxyindole dye precursor and sodium periodate. • Patent number: 4776856
Abstract: In a process for the oxidative dyeing of human or animal hair, a hair dyeing agent is prepared immediately before use from at least one oxidation dye and an oxidizing agent, applied to the hair to be dyed, and made to act for a given period of time, whereupon the hair dyeing agent is washed out. The hair dyeing agent that is to be used is prepared from an oxidation dye and the oxidizing agent with the concomitant use of manganese dioxide in powder form, while the finished hair dyeing agent is adjusted to a weakly acid pH in the range from 5.9 to 6.9.

  • Patent number: 4752409
Abstract: The physical stability of liquid gel-like compositions based on montmorillonite, attapulgite, hectorite or other inorganic colloid-forming clay or other thixotropic thickener is greatly improved by incorporating in the composition small amounts, such as 0.1 or 0.2 weight percent, of calcium, magnesium, aluminum or zinc stearate or other polyvalent metal salt of long chain fatty acid. The aqueous compositions containing inorganic builder salts and other functional inorganic salts, chlorine bleach, bleach-stable detergent, thixotropic thickener and polyvalent metal salt of a fatty acid as a physical stabilizer remain stable against phase separation for periods in excess of twelve weeks under a wide range of temperatures. The thixotropic properties can be retained or improved using smaller levels of the clay thixotropic thickener than in the absence of the physical stabilizer. Use as liquid gel-like automatic dishwasher compositions are described.
