Patent number: 5884845Abstract: A low cost trigger sprayer has a housing with a first liquid passage containing a spinner assembly. An elastomeric pump element is positioned generally horizontally such that pulling the trigger retracts the element and releasing the trigger allows the element to extend. The sprayer includes a low cost spinner assembly and low cost valving to control the flow of liquid within the sprayer. In one aspect of the invention, the housing has front and rear sections with the rear section having a saddle portion and being hinged to the front section for pivotal movement from an open position for molding the housing to a closed position for operating the sprayer. In another aspect of the invention, the container has a rear portion which extends upwardly past the neck and defining a saddle recess, with the housing connected to the neck of the container and positioned forwardly of the upwardly extending container portion.Type: GrantFiled: March 31, 1997Date of Patent: March 23, 1999Assignee: Continental Sprayers International, Inc.Inventor: Philip L. Patent number: 5884852Abstract: A suspension system for a boom of an agricultural particulate material distribution system comprises an inclined strut extending from the boom upwardly and inwardly to a suspension element at the tank. The suspension element comprises a plate attached to the rear wall of the tank and projecting outwardly to the side of the tank on which is mounted a pivot lever having a lower end attached to the plate and an upper end carrying a swivel for attachment to the strut. A gas bag spring is located in a hole in the plate so as to accommodate shock loads applied to the lever from the boom. A self leveling switch increases and decreases pressure in the gas bag spring to maintain a required orientation of the boom and to move the boom to a raised position for avoiding obstacles and for folding.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 1997Date of Patent: March 23, 1999Inventor: Charles Balmer

Patent number: 5875973Abstract: A fuel injection valve for internal combustion engines, with a valve member which is guided axially displaceably in a bore of a valve body and which has, at its end on the combustion space side, a conical valve sealing face, the valve sealing face cooperates with a conical valve seat face at that end of the bore located on the combustion space side, a blind hole or a conical region adjoining said valve seat face on the combustion space side, with a pressure space opening onto the valve seat and located between the valve member shank and the wall of the bore, and with at least one injection duct leading off from an inner wall of the injection valve, said inner wall being located downstream of the valve seat. For forming the injection jet, the entry regions of the injection duct are rounded, an upper entry region which faces the pressure space having a large radius (RA) and a lower entry region which faces away from the pressure space having a smaller radius (RB). Thus, the size of the radius (RA) is 0.75 to 1.Type: GrantFiled: March 1, 1996Date of Patent: March 2, 1999Assignee: Robert Bosch GmbHInventors: Erguen Filiz, Friedrich Boecking

Patent number: 5873528Abstract: A nozzle assembly (11) of an adhesive dispensing valve (10) includes a first valve (32) adjacent a discharge orifice (34). The first valve (32) opens to permit the flow of adhesive therethrough and closes to terminate the flow of adhesive in response to respective first and second states of the valve operating module (14). The adhesive dispensing valve (10) has a separable nozzle plate (102) that includes the first valve seat (100) and the discharge orifice (34) and is coupled to a nozzle body (72) with a mounting cap (104). A secondary valve (146) is located upstream of the first valve (32) and permits adhesive to flow therethrough in response to both of the first and second states of the valve operating module. However, as the mounting cap (104) and nozzle plate (102) are removed, the secondary valve (146) automatically engages its valve seat (94), thereby terminating the flow of adhesive while the nozzle plate (102) is removed from the valve body (16).Type: GrantFiled: August 15, 1996Date of Patent: February 23, 1999Assignee: Nordson CorporationInventors: William A. Patent number: 5871158Abstract: The present invention is directed to methods for preparing devices having hollow metallic microchannels on a surface of a planar substrate. More specifically, the present invention is directed to methods for preparing devices having surface metallic microchannels with a range of widths and heights selected to provide efficient flow characteristics and having thick and, thus, strong and durable channel walls. In addition, the methods of the present invention are compatible with standard integrated circuit fabrication techniques and, because the microchannels are formed upon the surface of the substrate without degrading the surface planarity, these techniques can be used to incorporate electronic circuitry into the microchannel-containing devices. For purposes of this application, the term "microchannel" refers to enclosed or partially enclosed channels having heights within the range from about 2 to about 200 micrometers (.mu.m) and widths within the range of about 10 micrometers to about 2 millimeters.Type: GrantFiled: January 27, 1997Date of Patent: February 16, 1999Assignee: The University of Utah Research FoundationInventor: A. Patent number: 5868322Abstract: The invention relates to an apparatus for forming liquid droplets, such as a micro nebulizer, useful for preparing samples for subsequent analysis via MS, AA, ICP, CE/MS, and similar analytical systems. The apparatus has a mechanically stabilized inner microtube or needle, thereby ensuring controllably uniform droplet size The mechanical stabilization is provided by securing the inner microtube or needle, such as by narrowing the inner diameter of the outer microtube or otherwise narrowing the annular intermediate space between the inner and outer microtubes for a predetermined length. Thus, the inner microtube is secured in a centered or otherwise predetermined fixed radial position, with minimum perturbation of the fluid flow. Further, a tip, when coupled with the exit end of the outer microtube, provides a region in which the sheath fluid flow in the outer microtube stabilizes prior to both exiting the tip and colliding with the liquid analyte exiting the inner microtube.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 1996Date of Patent: February 9, 1999Assignee: Hewlett-Packard CompanyInventors: Harvey D. Patent number: 5865377Abstract: A drip irrigation hose of the continuous emitter type in which the outlets from the regulating passage each comprise a single longitudinal slit. By controlling the length of the slits and the flexibility of the film, water drips from the outlets when the hose is pressurized without clogging when the hose is depressurized. The slits are sufficiently long and the film is sufficiently flexible so the water drips from the outlets when the hose is pressurized. The slits are sufficiently short and the film is sufficiently rigid so the outlets close completely when the hose is depressurized. An outlet forming wheel has a knife blade on its periphery. A backing wheel engages the outlet forming wheel to establish a first nip therebetween. The backing wheel has on its periphery a circumferential slot into which the knife blade fits at the first nip. A rib forming wheel has around its periphery impressions that define a desired track pattern for the ribs.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 1997Date of Patent: February 2, 1999Assignee: T-Systems International, Inc.Inventors: Michael DeFrank, David Marchetti, David L.
