    Abstract: A ventilation system for ventilating fresh air to a conditioned space, the system capable of supplying substantially more air to the space than is removed by the system in order to prevent depressurization inside the space. Passing through the unit housing is an inflow chamber, an outflow chamber, and a make-up air duct. Two blowers, an intake blower and an exhaust blower, are placed within the inflow chamber and the outflow chamber in order to motivate inflow and outflow currents of air. A damper acts to open and close the make-up air duct. When the damper is in an open position and the intake blower operates at a higher speed than the exhaust blower the system increases the air pressure within the conditioned space. A heat transfer wheel is disposed within both the inflow chamber and the outflow chamber to exchange heat between the two currents of air. A pre-heater is placed in the make-up air duct to be used in cold weather conditions to heat the air which bypasses the heat recovery wheel.

    Abstract: A method for reducing NOx emissions from the combustion of carbonaceous fuels using three stages of oxidation and second stage in-situ furnace flue gas recirculation. In the first stage, a partial oxidation combustor is used to partially combust the fuel in the presence of preheated combustion air. The fuel gas produced in the partial oxidation process is passed to a second stage partial oxidation combustor while molten slag is removed and disposed of. Preheated combustion air also is introduced into the second stage of combustion to produce a slightly reducing flue gas and is injected into the furnace in such a way as to create the desired in-situ furnace flue gas recirculation. In the upper part of the furnace a third combustion air is mixed with the flue gas in a third stage of combustion to substantially complete the combustion process. Preheated steam may be added to the first or second stages of combustion.

    Abstract: A method for reducing NOx emissions from the combustion of carbonaceous fuels using two sequential stages of partial oxidation followed by a final oxidation stage. In the first stage, substoichiometric air condition of about 0.55 to 0.75 is used in a plug flow fashion, while second stage combustion is performed at a stoichiometric ratio of about 0.80 to 0.99. As the second stage combustion products are cooled by radiant heat transfer to the boiler furnace walls, overfire air is added to produce an stoichiometric ratio of about 1.05 to 1.25 to complete the combustion process. In this manner, the formation of thermal NOx is reduced.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method for cooling a work machine is disclosed. The apparatus has a fan element located inside an engine compartment of the work machine in a horizontal orientation. The fan element draws external air from above the work machine into the engine compartment. A deflector directs the air through a plurality of cooling cores which are radially spaced about the engine compartment and interspersed with a plurality of core spaces. The apparatus can be cleaned by spraying fluid from the outside through the plurality of cooling cores, causing any trapped debris to fall to the bottom of the engine compartment, where it can be removed through a cleanout.

    Abstract: A bedside rethermalization unit maintains food items placed on meal serving trays, including hot food items to be served at an elevated temperature, in a refrigerated state and rethermalizes hot food items at a desired time prior to meal serving. The unit is preferably in the form of a cart with castered wheels to enhance mobility. The cart includes a cabinet having an upper tray storage compartment for storing and rethermalizing a single day's worth of meals for a single individual, and a lower tray storage compartment for storage of soiled trays and eating utensils. Both compartments are refrigerated. A divider physically and atmospherically isolates the upper and lower tray storage compartments to inhibit contamination of uneaten meals in the upper compartment by soiled trays placed in the lower compartment. Rethermalization of hot food items in the upper compartment may be achieved by convection, conduction, induction, radiant heating, or any combination thereof.

Waste with a diameter of to 5 mm is preferably introduced into gasifier (1) above the slag bath (2), while larger waste is preferably introduced directly into the slag bath. Slag is a removed, together with cracked gas accumulated during gasification through the floor of the gasifier via a slag drain having a lateral opening which protrudes above the slag bath.

Temperature-control fluid from the source may be pumped by the pump through the circuit to the load and recycled to the suction side of the pump. A valve is provided in the return line to the source and is controlled by a temperature sensor that senses the temperature in the circuit and selectively directs fluid to the circuit or out of the circuit and back to the source dependent upon the sensed temperature.

Second identical cast heater tubes connect second heater tube openings in the heater head manifold to the cylinder manifold. The first and second heater tubes are parallel with respect to each other and form a pair of partial concentric staggered arrays. The heater tubes are rotationally asymmetric, having fin sections with less surface area upstream than downstream and thicknesses which decrease radially away from the central passageways of said heater tubes.

    Abstract: A vehicle air conditioner has a blower unit having first and second inside/outside air switching doors, and an air conditioning unit having defroster and foot openings. The first inside/outside air switching door is operated to correspond to a set position of an inside/outside air switching lever. When an air outlet mode in which air is blown from both the foot and defroster openings is set, the second inside/outside air switching door is set to an inside air mode position. Therefore, when the first inside/outside air switching door is set to an outside air mode position in this air outlet mode, only an inside/outside air double flow mode is set. As a result, a gap between a temperature of air blown from the defroster opening and a temperature of air blown from the foot opening is prevented from abruptly changing.

A heat exchanger is also disposed within the firebox above the air injector. The fuel to be burned, a mixture of organic farm bedding waste, is piled in the firebox surrounding the air injector and heat exchanger. By injecting air into the pile of fuel, the fuel is burned from the inside out, surrounding the heat exchanger with the burning fuel. The unburned fuel acts to insulate the burning fuel from the walls of the firebox.

    Abstract: A method of burning plant-based fuel is involved in which the plant-based fuel is burned in a boiler designed for burning dry fuel and with the plant-based fuel being used having a moisture value which can vary in range from dry to wet. The method involves heating air with heat energy from combustion gases of the boiler to provide a source of heated air and providing heat and flow amounts of the heated air, with derived heat energy from the combustion gases, to the fuel in an amount sufficient for drying the fuel in any condition presented amongst the range between dry and wet. The flow of the heated air directed to the fuel is controlled to provide sufficient drying of the fuel before use of the fuel in the boiler and such that the heated air not needed for drying the fuel is conducted into the boiler to serve as heated combustion air.
