Patent number: 5015319Abstract: An in-line processing system for processing a supply of paper into a disposible programmable rack or organizer is provided. The processing system may be integrated into a publishing or assembly system for making a magazine or other booklet from a paper supply. Paper is processed into a programmable organizer by laying down a pattern of adhesive stripes on the surface of the paper and by cutting a pattern of slits in the paper and then folding the paper over itself forming a two-ply sheet held together by the adhesive stripes and defining longitudinal pockets across the two-ply sheet. The pattern of slits form openings in the pockets. A programmable rack may be made as a unit or may be integrated into a magazine.Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 1987Date of Patent: May 14, 1991Inventor: Richard Wilen

Patent number: 4997506Abstract: Process of decorating an article having a substantially transparent surface portion, wherein a decorative design formed of sublimable coloring agents contained on a support is transferred into an opaque monolayer contrast sheet. The opaque monolayer contrast sheet is adhered to the surface portion to form a surface portion/contrast sheet complex having a joint therebetween. This complex is assembled to the remainder of the article to be decorated by applying heat for a period of time sufficient to adhere the complex to the article and to achieve further sublimation and migration of the coloring agents from the opaque monolayer contrast sheet into the joint.Type: GrantFiled: September 26, 1988Date of Patent: March 5, 1991Assignee: Salomon S.A.Inventors: Gilles Recher, Jean-Pierre Nurit

Patent number: 4994131Abstract: A method or technique of preparing or producing distinctive decorative graphic materials. The method utilizes commercially available transfer print foils which are in the form of a thin film including a thin lamination of metallic material which provides the coloration which can transfer to the product. The areas to which coloration is to be applied are delineated such as by embossing paper or other materials or by drawing or printing the areas. Adhesive is then applied to the delineated areas to which coloration is to be applied, and the adhesive is allowed to dry sufficiently to become tacky. A strip of the transfer print foil is then laid over the delineated areas to which adhesive has been applied and is pressed down manually. The strip is then lifted and the coloration provided by the colored metallic lamination releases and transfers to the delineated areas and is held by the adhesive. Iridescence is produced by applying one color over another.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 1990Date of Patent: February 19, 1991Inventor: Homer L. Edwards

Patent number: 4980011Abstract: An automatic application device for dispensing an adhesive transfer tape with the liner removed includes a hub for rotatably supporting a roll of adhesive transfer tape and an application head for pressing the adhesive transfer tape unwound from the roll onto a product to which it is to be applied. An idler roller is disposed above the application head to pull the liner away from the application head. A motor driven take-up roller and corresponding nip roller are provided to pull the liner along its path over said idler roller away from the application head. A brake roller is provide along the path of the transfer tape between the roll and the application head to selectively stop the tape's advance. When the brake roller is released, the product to which the adhesive is applied pulls the tape underneath the application head, unwinding it from the roll. When the brake roller is stopped, the tape stops advancing and the adhesive strip carried on the liner is broken.Type: GrantFiled: January 27, 1988Date of Patent: December 25, 1990Assignee: Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing CompanyInventors: Michael W. Patent number: 4979890Abstract: In the manufacture of a padded element, such as a seat cushion for motor vehicles, the cushion cover of cloth, leather, synthetic material or the like is applied to the padding usually of expanded plastics material after having been formed to the shape of the surface of the padding by means of pressing in the metal die and the simultaneous application of steam. The flow of steam reaches the cover by passing through the lower part of the die and emerging from passages provided in the wall which is in contact with the material. The steam used during the operation of pressing of the material is drawn from a reservoir of pressurised steam, whose chamber is not in direct communication with the passages and whose body is of metal and is in a thermally conducting relationship with the wall of the die.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 1989Date of Patent: December 25, 1990Assignee: Sicam Societa' Italiana Cuscini A.
