  • Patent number: 4859512
Abstract: A transfer adhesive sandwich includes a flexible carrier sheet having an adhesive layer releasably bonded to one surface and having an opposite surface to which the adhesive layer is releasably bondable with substantially less tenacity than the tenacity of the bond between the adhesive layer and the one surface. A plurality of the sandwiches are stacked on top of one another to form a pad from which individual sandwiches are strippable. When the adhesive layer is pressed against a substrate, it adheres to the substrate with a tenacity substantially greater than the tenacity of the bond between the adhesive layer and the one surface of the carrier sheet so that the carrier sheet can be stripped away to leave the adhesive layer on the substrate.

  • Patent number: 4849044
Abstract: A process for the production of padding layers having a high degree of thermal insulation, and particularly suitable for use in clothing and furnishing, comprises the steps of producing, by means of carding machines, a layer or web comprising a mixture of polyester fibres with silicone treated fibers of the same or different nature. This layer or web is then resin coated on one side with a mixture of sticky plastic adhesives which, when polymerized, form a very soft and elastic film; on the other side of the same layer a non-sticky adhesive is sprayed or otherwise applied and the thus treated web is then subjected to a calendering operation at a temperature varying between predetermined limits. Subsequently, a layer of metal particles embedded in synthetic resins is applied to one or both sides of the said layer in such a way as to form a thermal barrier operable to reduce the transmission of heat by radiation and convection through the layer itself.

  • Patent number: 4847130
Abstract: The present invention is drawn to a tag attachment system from which tags are suppliable to necked articles and the method associated with the tag attachment system for supplying tags to necked articles. A carrier strip of material has pressure-sensitive adhesive disposed on a surface thereof. A plurality of tags are releasably secured to the strip at the surface of the strip and the tags are spaced apart along the length of the strip. Each of the tags has a surface on which a layer of coating release material is disposed and an aperture in which the necks of necked articles are receivable. The surface of the tags on which the coating release material is disposed confronts the surface of the carrier strip on which the adhesive is disposed so as to facilitate the releasable securement of the tags to the strip. The strip is passed around a guide disposed adjacent a path along which a plurality of necked articles are traveling.

  • Patent number: 4844761
Abstract: In the manufacture of a padded element, such as a seat cushion for motor vehicles, the cushion cover (of cloth, leather, synthetic material or the like is applied to the padding usually of expanded plastics material after having been formed to the shape of the surface of the padding by means of pressing in a metal die and the simultaneous application of steam. The flow of steam reaches the cover by passing through the lower part of the die and emerging from passages provided in the wall which is in contact with the material. The steam used during the operation of pressing of the material is drawn from a reservoir of pressurised steam, whose chamber is not in direct communication with the passages and whose body is of metal and is in a thermally conducting relationship with the wall of the die.

  • Patent number: 4844771
Abstract: A label applicator includes a support structure in predetermined relationship with a labeling station at which to apply a label to an article. A label dispenser mounted on the support structure dispenses a label to be applied to the article and a receiver moveably mounted on the support structure transports the label from the dispenser to the labeling station. Receiver mounting components are provided for mounting the receiver on the support structure both to enable generally linear movement of the receiver along a path between a retracted position adjacent the dispenser and an extended position adjacent the labeling station, and to enable pivotal movement of the receiver about a pivot axis between a label-receiving position in which the label receiver can receive a label from the dispenser and a label-applying position in which the label can be transferred from the label receiver to a face of an article at the labeling station.

  • Patent number: 4840698
Abstract: Apparatus for laminating a film onto a carrier. A carrier, such as, for example, a printed circuit board, a multi-layer lamination, a metal plate or a carrier layer with metal layers coated on both sides, is heated in a horizontal position on both sides over its entire surface in a heating station and is guided up to a photoresist film which is fixed vertically on suction plates of vacuum tables and which also spans a laminating station located between the vacuum tables. The photoresist film is drawn off from a single supply roll by means of a gripper bar and is guided over the vacuum tables and the laminating station. A cutting device cuts through the photoresist film transversely to its longitudinal direction.

  • Patent number: 4826548
Abstract: A roll of composite tape comprising an adhesive tape and a strippable backing tape is paid out and the adhesive tape and the strippable tape are separated. A hole of predetermined diameter is punched through the strippable tape and the strippable tape and the adhesive tape are brought back together again such that a circular portion of the adhesive face of the adhesive tape remains exposed through the hole punched in the strippable tape. The exposed portion of the adhesive face of the adhesive tape is applied against a face of a lens placed on a support by displacing at least one of the support and a buffer towards each other. A cutting device is used to cut the adhesive tape around the peripheral edges of the lens and the lens is removed together with its cut-out portion of adhesive tape. The remaining portion of the adhesive tape and the punched strippable tape is also removed, and the above operations are repeated for each lens in a series of lenses.
