  • Patent number: 7860880
Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for providing instant access to notices for any notice-triggering event which may occur on a specific construction project. More specifically, the present invention is essentially a system and method for managing problems and risks associated with a wide range of construction projects using a project-specific software, system, method and process, usually accompanied by “hard copy” printouts of the relevant notices, forms and letters and the specific contract provisions that require a specific notice to be given by the construction company. In one embodiment, a customized CD-ROM package of notice documents that fully comply with a particular contract is prepared, which software package is then utilized to bring up appropriate notice document on a computer screen, which notice document is then completed by a user by inserting relevant information in open fields of the draft notice document.

  • Patent number: 7860876
Abstract: A peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing system is provided with an enhanced search method for a client computer therein. The method includes masking at least one term in a multi-term query entered into a client computer of the P2P system to obtain a masked query and routing the masked query to a plurality of server computers. The masked query is compared to a file descriptor of server files in each of the plurality of server computers to identify a plurality of matching server files. The server computers return to the client computer as search results the file descriptor and a mathematical identifier for each of the plurality of matching server files. The server computer may return to the client computer only a subset of the plurality of the matching server files. Enhanced P2P file searching accuracy is provided.

  • Patent number: 7860841
Abstract: A tool for use in a computer system revises a large set of transaction records, for example hundreds or thousands of records, with a convenient user interface. An operator builds a query for a database to retrieve transaction records. The tool generates temporary copies of the transaction records that are responsive to the query and applies a specified data revision operation to each of the temporary copies. The operator may review and approve the data revision before it is committed to the database system. After receiving approval from an operator, the computer system substitutes the revised temporary copies for the transaction records in the database.

  • Patent number: 7836047
Abstract: Assignment of point level address geocodes to street networks include the steps of entering address data and collecting candidate point data records and segment data record matches for the entered address. Each point data record includes address elements and also includes a geocode. Each segment data record includes a centerline between segment record data points. A determination is made if there is at least one point data record match for the input address. The best point record match for the input address is selected when at least one point data record match is made. The address elements from the point record are compared to any collected segment data records. A determination is made of the best segment record match to the selected best point record and the best segment record match is selected.

  • Patent number: 7831636
Abstract: A method for configuring a transaction-based host environment for migration to a new system platform is described. The method comprises the steps of providing at least one database of a first type and at least one database of a second type, which have different migration behaviour, on the previous system platform. Further provided is a first type of transaction which accesses both the first type of database and the second type of database on the previous system platform. For preparing the migration, the first type of transaction is replaced in the host environment by a second type of transaction and a third type of transaction, wherein the second type of transaction accesses only the first type of database and the third type of transaction only the second type of database. The method additionally comprises initiating transactions of the second and third type on request for a transaction of the first type from a decentralised environment.

  • Patent number: 7831592
Abstract: An autonomic tool that supervises the collection and maintenance of database statistics for query optimization by transparently deciding what statistics to gather, when and in what detail to gather them. Feedback from data-driven statistics collection is simultaneously combined with feedback from query-driven learning-based statistics collection, to better process both rapidly changing data and data that is queried frequently. The invention monitors table activity and decides if the data in a table has changed sufficiently to require a refresh of invalid statistics. The invention determines if the invalidity is due to correlation between purportedly independent data, outdated statistics, or statistics that have too few frequent values. Tables and column groups are ranked in order of statistical invalidity, and a limited computational budget is prioritized by ranking subsequent gathering of improved statistics.

  • Patent number: 7809743
Abstract: A mechanism is presented for merging e-mail messages into a collated file. An e-mail message and its associated responses may be accessed and collated based on a selected pattern for responses. The set of e-mails may be collated into a single document with the responses associated with the particular message to which the response is directed. Using pattern matching operations in an iterative fashion, a response may be associated with the message that elicited the response whether the original message or a previous response. • Patent number: 7809737
Abstract: A retrieval keyword analyzing system extracts an access sequence indicating a continuous access by a same requester based on a Web access log which relates first identification data indicating an access requester to second identification data indicating contents to be accessed. The Web access log relates second identification data indicating a retrieval system to a retrieval keyword input to the retrieval system by the requester. The analyzing system extracts the retrieval keyword from the Web access log, calculates a qualitative evaluation value of the access sequence and creates relation data between the retrieval keyword and the qualitative evaluation value.

  • Patent number: 7809720
Abstract: Improved data content determination techniques are disclosed for use in accordance with information-seeking systems. For example, in one illustrative aspect of the invention, a technique for determining data content for a response to a query comprises obtaining a user query, and dynamically determining data content suitable for generating a response to the query, wherein data content determination is modeled as an optimization operation which attempts to balance context-based selection constraints. Further, the step of dynamically determining data content may further comprise modeling the context-based selection constraints as feature-based metrics. The feature-based metrics may be formulated using contextual information. Still further, the step of dynamically determining data content may further comprise performing the optimization operation such that one or more desirability metrics are maximized and one or more cost metrics are minimized, thus balancing the various constraints.

  • Patent number: 7805446
Abstract: A computer method and system for storing, retrieving and displaying information has a multiplexing agent (20) that calculates a new document vector (25) for a new document (21) to be added to the system and transmits the new document vector (25) to master cluster agents (22) and cluster agents (23) for evaluation. These agents (22, 23) perform the evaluation and return values upstream to the multiplexing agent (20) based on the similarity of the document to documents stored under their control. The multiplexing agent (20) then sends the document (21) and the document vector (25) to the master cluster agent (22), which then forwards it to a cluster agent (23) or creates a new cluster agent (23) to manage the document (21). The system also searches for stored documents according to a search query having at least one term and identifying the documents found in the search, and displays the documents in a clustering display (80) of similarity so as to indicate similarity of the documents to each other.

  • Patent number: 7792832
Abstract: A computer system, method, and storage medium with embedded code automate search for products that potentially infringe patents or similar rights of exclusion. The computer system receives an identifier of the patent, retrieves the patent's text, parses the text to identify contextually important terms of a claim, and then formulates queries that include these key terms. The system launches the queries and receives search results. If the number of results is excessive, the queries are reformulated more restrictively. The system determines contextual relevance of the results and arranges the results in order of their relevance.
