  • Patent number: 5956808
Abstract: A removable apparatus used to cover a knob is provided that includes an inner casing and an outer casing, both of which together form a collar that surrounds a portion of the knob and in so doing mechanically decouples a rotary motion that is applied to the cover from the knob. Disposed intermediate the inner casing and the outer casing is provided a latching mechanism which secures a hinged door to the cover. Release of the latching mechanism requires a two-step procedure beginning with the simultaneous application of a sufficient vertical force applied to urge a pair of vertical slide members downward. The downward force must be maintained in order for the second step to be accomplished.

  • Patent number: 5957613
Abstract: A turnbuckle actuator between a mast jacket of a motor vehicle steering column and a tilt housing pivotally supported on the mast jacket. The turnbuckle actuator includes a first turnbuckle yoke, a second turnbuckle yoke, and a turnbuckle shaft. The first and the second turnbuckle yokes are supported on respective ones of the mast jacket and the tilt housing for rotation about parallel lateral centerlines of the mast jacket and the tilt housing. The first turnbuckle yoke has a transverse bore therein eccentric relative to the lateral centerline of the mast jacket. The second turnbuckle yoke has a transverse bore therein eccentric relative to the lateral centerline of the tilt housing. Opposite hand screw threads on the turnbuckle shaft mesh with matching screw threads in the transverse bores. • Patent number: 5957615
Abstract: A system for removably and mechanically locking a sleeve on a driveshaft includes at least one peripheral groove comprising a bearing face on the driveshaft. At least one peripheral slot on the sleeve forms a chamber in the internal peripheral wall of the sleeve and includes a bearing face. At least one wedge-forming element can move more or less radially within the chamber between a position retracted inside the housing to allow the shaft to be slipped into the sleeve, and a position partially protruding from said chamber in which said element is designed to bear on the bearing face of the groove and on the bearing face of the chamber 34. Means for moving the movable wedge-forming element move the wedge-forming element radially inward, from outside the sleeve, in order to lock the sleeve on the shaft.

  • Patent number: 5954344
Abstract: Interlocking end members for expandable compression rings. Compression rings are formed by attaching the interlocking members to the ends of a flexible strip and coupling the interlocking members together. The interlocking members include a recess for receiving the ends of a flexible strip and a jaw structure for engagement with one another. The jaw structure includes two or more offset opposed jaw members which include angled teeth. • Patent number: 5954449
Abstract: A connecting device is provided to connect a fan blade to a rotor of a motor of a ceiling fan. The connecting device includes a bottom member disposed transverse to and rotated about an axial direction of the rotor. A circumferential wall extends upwardly from a periphery of the bottom member. A mounting arm has an anchored end adapted for mounting the fan blade thereon, and an anchoring end disposed to be brought to anchor on the bottom member such that the mounting arm is oriented in a radial direction relative to the bottom member. A limiting unit is disposed between the anchoring end and the bottom member to limit further movement of the anchoring end relative to the bottom member once the anchoring end is pulled away from the bottom member. At the same time, a biasing member is disposed to bias the anchoring end to move away from the bottom member. By virtue of the limiting unit and the biasing member, the anchoring end can anchor on the bottom member steadily and conveniently.

  • Patent number: 5951195
Abstract: In the ball pivot arrangement for a ball joint described in the specification, an essentially spherical upper region and an essentially bar-shaped lower region are joined by friction welding, the spherical region being capable of being mounted in a joint cup or joint socket to form a ball joint and the bar-shaped region constituting a joint rod. The costs involved in producing the ball pivot arrangement are reduced and the ball pivot arrangement is more effectively adaptable to different stresses because each of the components can be machined or hardened separately to provide required dimensions or hardness before assembly.

  • Patent number: 5947626
Abstract: A frictional revolving joint for joining a hub to a shaft has a tapered ring arrangement with two tapered ring sections with conical outer surfaces that have a V-shaped cross-section and a clamping ring made of two clamping ring elements that enclose the tapered ring arrangement. The ring shaped pressure chamber formed by the front surfaces of both clamping ring elements may be put under pressure by a hydraulic fluid, causing the clamping ring elements to slide outwards on the V-shaped tapered ring sections. The ring-shaped pressure chamber (57) is sealed itself by sealing rings (55a, 55b,; 63) that engage the clamping ring elements (53a, 53b) in all positions of the latter. The ring-shaped pressure chamber (57) is thus hermetically sealed and hydraulic fluid cannot escape outwards.

  • Patent number: 5947625
Abstract: A pivot system is disclosed for pivotally connecting a movable component to a fixed component, the pivot system having a swivel device mounted on one of the movable and fixed components, a headed shaft passing through a portion of the other of the movable and fixed components and engaging the swivel device, the headed shaft having a longitudinal axis forming the pivot axis between the components, an anti-rotation device engaging the shaft so as to prevent relative rotation between the shaft and the component to which it is mounted, and an anti-axial movement device engaging the shaft as to prevent relative movement between the shaft and the component to which it is mounted along the longitudinal axis of the shaft. This structure enables the shaft to be installed having access to only one end of the pivot shaft, improving over the known systems in which it is necessary to have access to both ends of the pivot shaft.

  • Patent number: 5946186
Abstract: A latch apparatus for a docking station includes a first member connected to a pivot connection on a base portion of the docking station and a second member connected to the first member. The second member is substantially curved so as to form a mechanical moment. A third member is connected to the second member and to a lever. the latch apparatus is operable to decrease an initial rest angle between the first member and the base portion of the docking station and thereby substantially reduce lateral friction forces which develop when the base portion of the docking station is moving laterally. The latch apparatus is further provides mechanical advantage via the mechanical moment which decreases the amount of force required to be applied to the lever to accomplish a given amount of work.

  • Patent number: 5944365
Abstract: A pipe clamp with a headed bolt for securing a pipe connection, in particular pipes of the exhaust system of a motor vehicle which are to be connected to one another, in the case of which the end of a first pipe is pushed into an axially slit end of a second pipe and, when the headed bolt is tightened, the pipe clamp, fitted on the slit pipe end, connects the two pipe ends to one another in a frictionally locking manner, is to be secured against a reduction in clamping force. For this purpose, the pipe clamp is formed of a material which has a higher coefficient of expansion than does the material of the pipes which are to be connected. The head of the headed bolt is elongated, in order to avoid impermissibly high local stressing during tightening of the pipe clamp. Due to the elongate form of the head of a headed bolt, the forces on the pipe clamp which support the tightening torque are reduced by a lengthening of the lever arm with respect to the axis of the headed bolt.
