  • Patent number: 6137228
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a metal halide lamp in which tungsten coils are made to have diameters wider than the outer diameters of electrodes, and to have a coil pitch sufficient to prevent molten quartz glass from entering therebetween; and after the tungsten coils have been fixed around the electrodes, the pitch of the tungsten coils on the sides of the electrodes which are nearest molybdenum foils is extended by dragging a part of the tungsten coils toward the discharge ends of the electrodes to fix it tightly around the electrodes. As a result, when sealing is performed with quartz glass bulb, gaps between the electrodes and the glass bulb are provided on the discharge sides of the electrodes, whereby it can be prevented to occur cracks in the quartz glass bulb due to the thermal expansion of the electrodes; and on the molybdenum foil sides of the electrodes, the quartz glass bulb contacts the electrodes, thereby preventing peeling-off and accumulation of sealed material.

  • Patent number: 6121720
Abstract: A spark plug derives an extended lifetime because a large plurality of sharp edges are provided on the center electrode, the ground electrode, or both to enhance spark propagation. In a first embodiment, the ground electrode has a conventional cantilever shape, but the center electrode extends into coplanar relation to a distal surface of the electrode so that sparks propagate from the cylindrical side walls of the center electrode. In variations of the first embodiment, the number of cantilevered ground electrodes is increased, with the ground electrodes being circumferentially and equidistantly spaced about the center electrode. In another embodiment, the ground electrode has an annular configuration and includes a cylindrical annular wall spaced radially outwardly of the cylindrical sidewall of the center electrode, in concentric relation to the center electrode.

  • Patent number: 6100636
Abstract: A method for forming a conductively coated matrix structure for separating rows and columns of sub-pixels on the faceplate of a flat panel display device. In one embodiment, the present invention deposits a photoresistive material over the interior surface of a faceplate having a non-conductive matrix structure formed thereon. The photoresistive material is deposited into sub-pixel regions separated by the matrix structure. The photoresistive material is dried and exposed in the sub-pixel regions. After unexposed photoresistive material is removed, a layer of aluminum is evaporated over the interior surface of the faceplate such that the matrix structure and the exposed layer of photoresistive material in the sub-pixel regions is coated with a conductive layer of aluminum. Next, the present invention applies an etchant to the exposed photoresistive material disposed in the sub-pixel regions.
