  • Patent number: 4373492
Abstract: A fuel injection pump having a hydraulic injection onset adjustment apparatus is proposed, in which a supplementary variation of the injection onset is obtained by means of the variation in pressure deviating from proportionality. This variation is obtained by means of varying a relief channel of a work chamber of the injection adjusting system. The cross-sectional variation is effected in accordance with the hydraulic pressure of the supply pump as well as an adjusting member which varies the initial stress of the restoring spring of the control valve.

  • Patent number: 4372267
Abstract: A fuel pumping apparatus includes a control rod movable in an axial direction to vary the quantity of fuel delivered by the apparatus. A stop member is engageable with a part on the control rod to determine the normal maximum amount of fuel which can be supplied. The stop member can be moved laterally by a first spring to allow an excess of fuel to be supplied. A temperature responsive second spring opposes the action of the first spring, the second spring at normal operating temperature exerting a greater force than the first spring but when cold shrinking to allow movement of the stop member by the first spring.

  • Patent number: 4366796
Abstract: A distribution type fuel injection pump for use in a fuel injection combustion engine comprising a plunger capable of moving reciprocally along its axis and simultaneously rotating about its axis and a couple of members forming a cam mechanism having a first cam member and a second cam member. The first cam member is mounted on the plunger and the second cam member is mounted on a housing rotatably about its axis. The couple of cam members cause the plunger to reciprocally move while the plunger is rotating. The angular position of the second cam member about its axis can be controlled by a fuel injection timing control means in accordance with the engine speed. The second cam member can also turn about its axis so as to be adjusted in its angular position by a fuel injection timing adjustment when a selected operating condition of the engine, for example the engine start, is carried out.

  • Patent number: 4364362
Abstract: A metering and distribution valve assembly is proposed for a fuel injection system of an internal combustion engine. The metering and distribution valve assembly includes a control slide having a head 68 and a control edge and a slotted sleeve with at least two control slits. The control edge opens the control slits to a greater or lesser degree in accordance with the relative motion between the control slide and the control slits in the slotted sleeve. An end face of the control slide adjacent to the control edge is exposed to a control pressure which is lower than the system pressure engaging the control edge. The pressure drop at the circumference of the control slide head formed between the control edge and the end face is capable of being influenced in such a manner that the control slide head rests unilaterally on the slotted sleeve at least during a portion of the displacement movement. As a result, better metering precision is obtained.

  • Patent number: 4364351
Abstract: The position of a limit stop member which limits the mechanical position of a fuel metering valve in a diesel engine fuel injection pump is open loop controlled to a position offset from a desired fuel metering valve limit position by an amount in the increased fuel direction that is equal to the maximum possible error in the open loop controlled positional relationship between the limit stop and the fuel metering valve. The position of the fuel metering valve is sensed and compared with the maximum desired metering valve limit and when the fuel metering valve position exceeds the limit position, the position of the limit stop is closed loop adjusted to the maximum fuel metering valve position.

  • Patent number: 4362141
Abstract: A fuel injection pumping apparatus includes an axially movable distributor member which carries pumping plungers movable inwardly to effect delivery of fuel by means of cam lobes formed on a cam ring. The axial position of the distributor member determines the amount of fuel supplied by the apparatus each time the plungers are moved inwardly. The distributor member is moved axially by varying the volume of liquid in a chamber, the distributor member moving as the volume of liquid increases against the action of a spring. The volume of liquid is controlled by means of a sleeve axially movable by means of a governor mechanism which includes weights. The sleeve controls the size of a port which communicates with the chamber and liquid is supplied to the chamber through a passage from a supply pump.

  • Patent number: 4362140
Abstract: A fuel injection pump of the rotary distributor type including a pump plunger the outward movement of which can be limited by an angularly adjustable stop ring to determine the maximum amount of fuel supplied by the pump. The stop ring is moveable from a first position to a second position to enable the pump to supply an excess amount of fuel for starting the engine. A first torsion spring biases the stop ring to the first position and a second torsion spring biases the ring to the second position and is stronger than the first torsion spring. Means is provided to remove the force exerted by the second torsion spring when the supply of the extra amount of fuel is no longer required. This means can be a fluid pressure operable piston.

  • Patent number: 4361126
Abstract: A fuel injection valve is proposed which, especially in low-fuel-pressure systems, serves to inject fuel into the intake tube of a mixture-compressing internal combustion engine with externally supplied ignition. The fuel injection valve includes a fixed valve seat cooperating with a movable valve element, downstream of which the fuel to be injected is carried into a mixture guidance channel of a mixture guidance tube and surrounded on all sides with air or exhaust gas for preparation immediately upon its entrance into the mixture guidance channel and injected via an injection opening into the intake tube. The mixture guidance channel may be embodied as tapering in conical fashion toward the injection opening. For the purpose of preliminary preparation of the fuel, secondary air or exhaust gas can already be delivered to the fuel before its entrance into the mixture guidance channel.

  • Patent number: 4359995
Abstract: A fuel injection pumping apparatus comprises an injection pump including an angularly movable cam ring connected to a piston. Resilient means bias the piston against the action of a fluid pressure which varies in accordance with speed. A cam plate engages an abutment for the resilient means and is adjustable by means of a pivotal lever the setting of which is varied in accordance with the amount of fuel supplied by the apparatus thereby to vary the setting of the cam plate. The fulcrum for the lever is adjustable in accordance with the speed by means of a further piston responsive to said fluid pressure.

  • Patent number: 4358282
Abstract: A constant velocity ball joint in which each of the rotary members of the bearing portion, such as an outer race, cage and inner race is chamfered at one axial end of inner or outer spherical portion thereof at an angle of 2.degree. to 15.degree. to the line tangent to the axial end and at a chamfering width of 1 mm or greater. • Patent number: 4357921
Abstract: A pressure regulator is provided for the fuel injection system of a spark ignition internal combustion engine. The regulator is designed to regulate the pressure at which fuel is delivered to the fuel injectors, this pressure being constantly referenced to a predetermined value for the purpose of maintaining the correct air/fuel mixture ratio for all conditions of use of the engine. In general terms, the regulator comprises an arrangement of various mechanical components which act to divide the flow of fuel delivered by a supply pump into two parts; one part of this flow is supplied to the injectors which take up the quantity required by the operating conditions of the engine, the remaining part being returned to the motor vehicle tank. To facilitate manufacture and assembly of the regulator, a particular form is given to the regulator valve element used to effect division of the fuel flow.
