Patent number: 9788841Abstract: An implantable medical device includes a support structure which is twistable in a longitudinal direction of the device. A sleeve of filter or occluding material is attached to the ends of the structure. The structure in practice twists on itself in the longitudinal direction, causing the sleeve to twist on itself and as a result to close the lumen through the sleeve. The device provides reliable closure and as a result occlusion of a vessel. It is also able to be delivered over a guide wire. In another embodiment, the support structure includes a wire which coils around the sleeve to constrict the sleeve and as a result to close a lumen of the sleeve.Type: GrantFiled: June 24, 2015Date of Patent: October 17, 2017Assignee: COOK MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIES LLCInventors: Tue Thuren Bödewadt, Christina Rauff Hansen, Erik E. Patent number: 9775670Abstract: A surgical instrument includes a handle assembly, an elongate body, a tool assembly, and an electrical energy source. The handle assembly includes an actuation knob. The elongate body extends distally from the handle assembly and defines a longitudinal axis. In particular, tool assembly is operatively coupled to the handle assembly and extends from a distal end of the elongate body. The tool assembly includes first and second jaw members each including an electrically conductive cutting element. The cutting elements are operatively coupled to the actuation knob. In particular, the cutting elements are movable between a first position in which the cutting elements are disposed within the respective jaw members and a second position in which the cutting elements extend out of the respective jaw members and are in general vertical registration with each other such that electrical energy can be transferred from the first jaw member to the second jaw member.Type: GrantFiled: August 1, 2016Date of Patent: October 3, 2017Assignee: Covidien LPInventors: Csaba L. Patent number: 9681969Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for delivering a stent to a lumen internal to a body of a patient and for sheathing a stent just prior to an insertion procedure. One embodiment comprises a delivery device having a partially sheathed configuration, a fully sheathed delivery configuration, and a deployed configuration. A panchor (combination pusher and anchor) is configured to engage and limit proximal and distal movement of the implantable device. An outer sheath surrounds a distal portion of an inner member and retains the implantable device near the distal end. The outer sheath is slidably moveable relative to the inner member to deploy the implantable device. Proximal movement of a trigger results in movement of the outer sheath to deploy the implantable device. A sheathing mechanism is configured to crimp and fully sheathe the implantable device prior to a deployment procedure.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 2012Date of Patent: June 20, 2017Assignee: Merit Medical Systems, Inc.Inventor: Thomas Patrick Robinson

Patent number: 9474547Abstract: A tunneling tool for implanting a medical device into body tissue is described. The tunneling tool comprises a first leg and a second leg. An intermediate portion of the second leg is shaped to nest a medical device therein. A hub connects the first and second distal leg ends together. A sheath providing a lumen extends from the hub to an open end distal of the first and second legs. The first and second legs are manipulatable to separate the hub and the sheath into two portions, a first split portion connected to the first leg and a second split portion connected to the second leg. When a medical device is nested in the tunneling tool, breaking the tunneling tool apart enables the first and second split portions to be removed from body tissue, leaving the implanted medical device behind.Type: GrantFiled: October 19, 2015Date of Patent: October 25, 2016Assignee: Greatbatch Ltd.Inventors: Rodolphe Katra, Walter J. Patent number: 9427219Abstract: A delivery device for delivering material into a catheter through a catheter port includes a cannula having a generally tubular shape and a distal end and a stability collet having a distal attachment portion configured to attach the stability collet to a catheter port. The stability collet has a longitudinal channel through which the cannula extends. The longitudinal channel is dimensioned to allow a longitudinal movement of the cannula in the longitudinal channel. The delivery device further includes an elastic member acting between the cannula and the stability collet. The elastic member biases the cannula distally relative to the stability collet. Thus, when the stability collet is attached to the catheter port, the cannula is urged toward the catheter port, thus reducing a risk of improper alignment between the cannula and the catheter port.Type: GrantFiled: November 19, 2012Date of Patent: August 30, 2016Assignee: COOK MEDICAL TECHNOLOGIES LLCInventors: Karol Lagodzki, Vanessa Weisman, Trevor Plassman
