  • Patent number: 8670372
Abstract: A system and method for dynamically dividing the capacity of a fixed time division multiplexing (TDM) frame between physical channels for data transmission. According to various embodiments, a time frequency frame is divided into a plurality of subframes, and each of the plurality of subframes are divided into a plurality of corresponding slots. The plurality of slots are then selectively time shifted such that a defined time shift exists between corresponding slots in each subframe within the time frequency frame. For any slots or slot portions which have been selectively shifted beyond the end of the time frequency frame, such slots or slot portions are cyclically shifted to the beginning of the frame. Service data is then written into the slots of the time frequency frame, and the frame containing the service data can then be transmitted. Initialization and service access processes for a receiver are also provided.

  • Patent number: 8644258
Abstract: The invention proposes a method and an apparatus for reducing break duration in handover of a VoIP conversation from a packet switch domain to a circuit switch domain. The main idea is that a synchronization mechanism is introduced between the session handover procedure at IP multimedia subsystem IMS layer and a cell handover procedure at layer 2, so that enable the two handover procedures to start at or almost at the same time. When a Mobile Switching Center MSC server receives a request of handover from the source Mobility Management Entity MME, the time required from the time the MSC server transmitting a message to this message arriving at a remote end user equipment UE is computed first, and then is compared with a predetermined time required from the time the MSC server transmitting a message to this message arriving at the local UE.

  • Patent number: 8644134
Abstract: Techniques are described which provide mechanisms for dual-homing an access ring for virtual private wire service (VPWS) Ethernet line (E-Line) services. The mechanism may provide resiliency against access ring failures and offer a restoration time of 50 msec upon failure. A method to provide such resiliency may generally include determining, at a first ring port of an access node, a ring failure in an Ethernet ring. Upon determining the first ring port of the access node is not situated on a same side of the Ethernet ring as a node designated as a ring protection link (RPL) owner, a message is transmitted on a second ring port of the access node towards a provider edge (PE) node. The message is used to activate pseudowires (PWs) at the PE node for virtual local area networks (VLANs) of the access node.

  • Patent number: 8638805
Abstract: Described embodiments provide for restructuring a scheduling hierarchy of a network processor having a plurality of processing modules and a shared memory. The scheduling hierarchy schedules packets for transmission. The network processor generates tasks corresponding to each received packet associated with a data flow. A traffic manager receives tasks provided by one of the processing modules and determines a queue of the scheduling hierarchy corresponding to the task. The queue has a parent scheduler at each of one or more next levels of the scheduling hierarchy up to a root scheduler, forming a branch of the hierarchy. The traffic manager determines if the queue and one or more of the parent schedulers of the branch should be restructured. If so, the traffic manager drops subsequently received tasks for the branch, drains all tasks of the branch, and removes the corresponding nodes of the branch from the scheduling hierarchy.

  • Patent number: 8634304
Abstract: An Ethernet cable used with an Ethernet test-set allows a single connection to an Ethernet port of a network element while maintaining individual connections to separate ports on the test-set. The far-end of the signal path is a single Ethernet cable port having its transmit and receive pins interconnected. The far-end port interconnections cause a test signal which has traveled to the far-end port to be returned to the test-set and to be receive in a test-set port other than the originating port Two signal paths can be simultaneously tested with the same test-kit. Interconnections between the test-set ports by way of the cable maintain a “no-signal”alarm disabled, which otherwise would be energized because there is no signal being received in the port from which the test signal originated.

  • Patent number: 8594046
Abstract: The invention concerns a method of performing an intra-segment handover (HO) of a mobile station (MS) from a source access point (AP1) of a tree-structured segment (S1) of an Ethernet-compliant telecommunication network to a target access point (AP2) of said segment (S1), as well as a switch (SW-123) to support the execution of this method. After establishing contact between the mobile station (MS) and the target access point (AP2), the mobile station (MS) sends an update entry request addressed to the segment gateway switch (GW). The update entry request is received by a switch (SW-123) positioned in the tree structure of the segment (S1) hierarchically above the source and target access points (AP1, AP2) and below the segment gateway switch (GW). The switch (SW-123) checks whether its forwarding database contains a first entry comprising an address of the mobile station (MS) received by means of the update entry request.

  • Patent number: 8576825
Abstract: Managing RF spectrum usage by secondary, or unlicensed, devices in portions of the RF spectrum where licensed, or primary, services operate is a requirement of cognitive radio systems. To perform the necessary spectrum scanning, a transition period, such as a TTG or RTG can be extended and the scanning performed during the extended period. The presence of a primary service signal can also detected by detecting an energy signature of the primary service signal in a known sequence. In both cases, there is no need to define quiet periods during which secondary devices scan the RF spectrum, thus resulting in saving of resources and improved QoS.

  • Patent number: 8553537
Abstract: A switch device includes a packet forwarding table for providing load balancing across servers in a server group. Each table entry maps a hash value to a server in the server group. A hash value can be computed from the destination MAC address, destination IP address, and destination service port in the header of a received packet. The packet forwarding table is searched to find an entry with a hash value that matches the computed hash value and to identify the server to which the matching hash value maps. The switch device forwards the packet to the identified server. Implementing load-balancing decisions in hardware enables packet switching at the line rate of the switch ports. In addition, the hardware-based load balancing performed by the switch device eliminates session tables and the memory to store them, enabling the switch device to handle an unlimited number of client connections.
