Abstract: The invention relates to a method of performing multicast admission control in a communications network (1?), comprising the steps of: a) receiving, at a first node (1-1) of the communications network (1?), a request (6) for a multicast channel (4b) from a host system (5b) communicatively coupled to the first node (1-1); b) sending, by the first node (1-1), a request (6) for the multicast channel (4b) to a central admission controller (7) of the communications network (1?), the sending of the request (6) being triggered by receiving the request (6) from the host system (5b); c) determining, by the central admission controller (7), if sufficient resources exist on nodes (1-1 to 3-1) and interconnecting links (1.1 to 3.
Abstract: There is provided a procedure for wireless network management and a station supporting the procedure. In the procedure, non-AP station which wants to us a traffic filter service (TFS) transmits a TFS request message including one or more TFS request elements for defining information about the requesting traffic filters to an access point (AP). And, the non-AP station receives, from the AP in response to the first TFS request message, a TFS response message including one or more TFS response elements for defining information about the status of the requesting traffic filters.
Abstract: In a wireless communication system having multiple access nodes, a home agent (HA) maintains home address (HoA) for a mobile node so that an IP session can be established. As the mobile node moves within a coverage area of various access nodes, the mobile node can establish a secure relationship with a local access gateway and thereby register a local IP address, referred to as a care-of-address (CoA), with the HA. Mobile IP protocol can be established so that multiple sessions can be conducted. In maintaining policy and charging control (PCC), HA informs a policy and charging rules function (PCRF), which in turn can then send the appropriate PCC rules (e.g., IP flows and related policies) to a policy and charging enforcement function (PCEF) for a particular access gateway. Coordination necessary to associate CoA and HoA can further include filter information as to application can run on a particular interface.

Abstract: Services and service components in a broadcast network may be mapped to disparate physical layer transmission channels (PLPs) using logical layer pipes (LLPs). The use of LLPs allows different service components of a single service to be mapped to physical layer transmission channels (PLPs). Accordingly, service components may be shared among different services. Additionally or alternatively, different functions (e.g., different error detection or correction protocols) may be applied to each service components of a service. A receiver may identify services, service components and corresponding PLPs based on LLP identifiers. The receiver may then access and receive desired services and service components through the identified PLPs.

Abstract: Some embodiments provide a method of combining multiple streams of data packets into a single combined stream in a manner that facilitates accurate estimation of bandwidth of a connection over a network between two devices. When combining the streams into the combined stream, the method associates a set of packets from a first stream and a reference packet from a second stream to form a longer sequence of packets in the combined stream. The method sends the combined stream from a first device to a second device so that the second device can estimate the bandwidth of the connection between the first and second devices based on the inter-arrival times of the packets in the sequence of packets.

Abstract: Mapping data packets of a first data stream into data fields of a second data stream at several transmitters is provided by generating a first data stream with first data packets containing data associated with stationary receivers and second data packets containing data associated with mobile receivers in a head-end, where second data packets at the start of a group of consecutively transmitted second data packets contain placeholders into which signaling information is filled. A first data stream is transmitted from the head-end to each transmitter. Each transmitter extracts signaling information from the second data packets indicating in which data slot and in which data sub-frame of a received data frame the second data packet is transferred. Each transmitter inserts synchronization data in a specific data packet in each data slot containing second data packets. The first and second data packets are mapped consecutively into the second data stream.

Abstract: A method of scheduling data transmission in a wireless network is disclosed. The wireless network includes an access router and a plurality of access terminals connectable to the base station. The method includes determining a number of the access terminals that are connected to the base station, and comparing the number with a threshold. The method further includes determining, based on the comparison between the number of connected access terminals and the threshold, whether to send a dedicated control signal or a shared control signal from the base station, in order indicate which ones of the plurality of access terminals are scheduled to transmit data during a slot.
Abstract: In a method implemented in a communication device an available bandwidth for transmitting one or more data frames is determined, wherein the available bandwidth corresponds to a first composite communication channel comprising a plurality of communication channels. A control frame to indicate a request to transmit via the first composite communication channel is generated, wherein the control frame includes a header, and wherein a portion of the header includes information indicating the bandwidth of the first composite channel. The control frame is transmitted via the first composite communication channel, wherein at least the portion of the header is duplicated in a plurality of bandwidth portions of the first composite communication channel.

Abstract: The invention provides a scheduling of data blocks on multiple data carriers and a selection of data carrier to listen to. A transmitting unit simultaneously transmits, during a communication session with at least one participating receiving unit, at least a first data block on a first data carrier and a second data block on a second data carrier. The receiving unit selects which of these data carriers to listen to, i.e. whether to receive the first or second data block, based on a reception quality of a previously received data block. Furthermore, at least one of the first and second data block is based on information common to the data block and the previous data block, e.g. the first or second data block could be re-transmitted version of the previous block.
Abstract: The present invention provides a method of estimating a frequency offset. The method comprises receiving a wireless signal timed according to a first frequency; generating a local signal timed according to a second frequency; and performing a plurality of synchronization searches, each search comprising obtaining a set of correlation results indicative of a correlation between the wireless signal and the local signal at different timing offsets of the wireless signal relative to the local signal. The method the no comprises finding a series of results, with a result from each of a plurality of the synchronization searches, for which the difference in; timing offset between results from adjacent searches in the series is within a maximum specified value. A frequency off set between the first and second frequencies can be determined from the series.
Abstract: Distributing a message in a network may include transmitting, via a contention-free access channel, the message from an originating node to a first set of nodes neighboring the originating node, and designating a subset of the first set of nodes as relay nodes. A first one of the relay nodes may then relay, via the contention-free access channel, the message to a second set of nodes neighboring the first relay node.

Abstract: A method and system for connection management in a wireless data network, such as a 1xEV-DO network adds connections to new network sectors upon receipt of a connection request from an active terminal, but removes data connections that the active terminal requests to be dropped only after confirmation from the active terminal that a channel allocation message has been received and applied. The active network maintains an active set of connections that is at least as large as the active set maintained by the active terminal and does not initiate a connection termination if no confirmation of the channel allocation message is received. This allows for a reduction in the number of dropped connections.

Abstract: Embodiments provide WiFi and WiMAX tailored transceiver radio frequency (RF) filtering techniques and configurations to enable coexistence between WiFi and WiMAX transceivers operating in close proximity. In particular, embodiments provide filtering techniques to reject emissions from WiMAX into WiFi, and vice versa. The filtering techniques eliminate the need for additional isolation between WiMAX and WiFi antennas (approximately 50 dB), which is beyond what is achievable in practice. Embodiments can be tailored according to different use cases of the WiFi and WiMAX transceivers (e.g., fixed CPE, portable router, smart phone with tethering).
