  • Patent number: 8431196
Abstract: The glass tube assembly has an outer glass tube provided with a tapered section and an inner glass tube or rod, which is arranged inside of the outer glass tube and which has a spiral section. The tapered section is formed by one or more projections on the inner surface of the outer glass tube. Each projection extends in a longitudinal direction of the outer glass tube and does not extend around its entire circumference. The internal width of the tapered section is smaller than the outside diameter of the spiral section of the inner glass tube or rod, so that the inner glass tube or rod is reliably prevented from slipping or rotating out of the outer glass tube by its spiral section. A method of making the glass tube assembly is also described.

  • Patent number: 8389085
Abstract: A preform having an inverted truncated conical bottom section is used. The inclined inner surface of a bottle bottom surface-forming portion of the bottom section is formed into a gently curved convex surface that extends from the lower portion of a bottle bottom edge-forming portion of the bottom section to a curved portion in the lower portion of the bottom section so that the thickness of the bottle bottom surface-forming portion is greater than the thickness of the barrel section of the preform and the thickness of the bottle bottom edge-forming portion. The increase in thickness of the bottom section improves the efficiency of stretching the bottom section, and the circumferential wall of the bottom section can thereby be efficiently stretched. This allows a reduction in weight (thickness) of the bottom surface section of a stretch blow molded bottle, and a reduction in weight of the bottle is thereby achieved.

  • Patent number: 8357440
Abstract: The present invention provides for a plastic sheet, especially one used in the construction of a plastic trash bag, which provides improved tear propagation properties. The plastic sheet has a plurality of protuberances in the plastic sheet, the protuberances defining a first set of substantially parallel curvilinear lines in a first direction, and optionally, a second set of curvilinear lines in a second direction. The plurality of protuberances can be either indentations or protrusions in the plastic sheet, preferably formed through an embossing process. Preferably, the protuberances are circular in shape, but not necessarily uniform, and alternate between indentations and protrusions along the first, and possibly the second, curvilinear lines with the curvilinear lines preferably being wave-shaped.
