Patent number: 7188416Abstract: A restoration process for restoring surface porosity defects in engine blocks cast using a high pressure die cast method. The areas of an engine block having surface porosity defects are identified and the areas not containing surface porosity defects are masked using an adhesive, reusable, rubberized mask. The masked surface is subsequently cleaned and a metal spray is applied to the surface porosity defects. The mask is removed and the restored surface porosity defects are hand finished to create an engine block having less than 0.05% surface porosity.Type: GrantFiled: February 5, 2003Date of Patent: March 13, 2007Assignee: Brunswick CorporationInventors: Douglas M. Patent number: 7185434Abstract: A heat sink vacuum packaging procedure to rapidly complete the packaging of a heat sink without drilling, pipe welding, vacuum pumping, or other processes. Because the packaging procedure saves much time and labor, the manufacturing cost of the heat sink is relatively reduced. During packaging, no welding process is employed, therefore the invention prevents accidentally flowing of tin solder into the inside of the heat sink to affect the quality of the heat sink, and the quality of the heat sink is maintained.Type: GrantFiled: March 8, 2004Date of Patent: March 6, 2007Assignee: Tatung Co., Ltd.Inventors: Liu-Ho Chiu, Chang-Hui Wu, Ming-Der Chou, Chen-Ming Chang

Patent number: 7165307Abstract: There are disclosed a method and apparatus for applying a strippable paint to a large-sized product finished with a sprayed coating, such as an automobile, to form a protective film on the surface of the coating. The product is conventionally kept in stock for a period of time before it is shipped. Contaminations such as dust are washed away from the surface of the product. Then, the strippable paint is applied, preliminarily dried, and non-preliminarily dried to form the protective film out of the strippable paint on the surface of the coating. This protective film is formed easily, appropriately, and reliably. The obtained protective film has a uniform and sufficient thickness. Even if the surface contains unapplied regions to which the paint should not be applied, the paint can be applied to the whole surface of the coating while avoiding the unapplied regions according to the invention. The application can be performed easily and reliably without leaving unapplied portions around the unapplied regions.Type: GrantFiled: April 4, 1996Date of Patent: January 23, 2007Assignee: Honda Giken Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Hideaki Tojo, Hideo Ishida, Hisashi Kurota, Takao Arasawa, Nobuyuki Okita

Patent number: 7159314Abstract: A cylinder housing (1) is cast with a cylinder wall (2) in the making of a cylinder for an internal combustion engine. The cylinder wall delimits an interior space (3) for accommodating a reciprocating piston and, thereafter, a control window (5) is machined into the cylinder wall (2) as an opening of a transfer channel (4) into the interior space (3). A two-stage machining for forming the control window (5) is provided in order to make possible a rapid and cost effective manufacture of the cylinder. In a first step with a work tool (7) having a rotating primary movement (11), a breakthrough (10) is machined into the cylinder wall (2) and, in a second step with a work tool, the breakthrough (10) is widened to the wanted dimensions of the control window (5).Type: GrantFiled: September 22, 2003Date of Patent: January 9, 2007Assignee: Andreas Stihl AG & Co. Method for producing a load sharing arrangement of planet pinions and gears for a Ravigneaux gearset
Patent number: 7155793Abstract: The method includes the steps of determining a number of gear teeth for each gear and pinion that, in combination, would produce desired gear ratios. Current gearset parameters including distances and angles relating the positions of the gears and pinions are determined. For a predetermined angular rotation of a selected gear or pinion, and using the current gearset parameters, an error is determined representing a difference in phases of a tooth on the selected gear or pinion into its mesh cycle. A first phase is determined along a first portion of a drive path of meshing gears and pinions, and a second phase is determined along a second portion of the drive path distinct from the first portion. One or more of the current gearset parameters are repetitively changed to determine a set of correspond optimal gearset parameters, for which the error is equal to or less than an acceptable error. Then a gearset having the optimal gearset parameters is produced.Type: GrantFiled: February 26, 2004Date of Patent: January 2, 2007Assignee: Ford Global Technologies, LLCInventor: Bernard Simon -
