Abstract: A mobile viewing method includes accessing location information indicative of a current location of a mobile device associated with a home market. A current market corresponding to the current location of the mobile device is identified. If the current market differs from the home market, the mobile device is granted access to a retransmission of at least one local channel of the current market. The location information may include GPS information indicative of GPS coordinates of the mobile device. The mobile device may include a mobile viewing application that displays a channel guide indicating local channels available in the current market and national channels. The mobile viewing application may include a summary of the current market and the summary may include weather, news headline, and local advertisement information.

  • Patent number: 8010129
Abstract: An alert signal is generated based on the geographical position of a device and/or based on time or date. The alert signal is generated when the device is within a certain distance from a predefined location. An actual position of the device, the location of a place of interest, and a request for an alert signal associated with the location of the place of interest are stored. The actual position of the device is compared with the location of the place of interest. The alert signal is generated when the distance between the actual position of the device and the location of a place of interest is less than a predetermined value.

  • Patent number: 8005055
Abstract: An improved method of network management, particularly in the context of standards IEEE802.11 and IEEE802.11k, through two new MAC measurements, with attendant advantages. The two new measurements include WTRU uplink traffic loading measurement, and an AP service loading measurement and is generally applicable at least to layers 1 and 2 as applied to a least 802.11k in the context of OFDM and CDMA 2000 systems, but is applicable to other scenarios as well. A Method for determining and advertising congestion is also provided for a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) system. The present invention also introduces a method for managing congestion when congestion is detected. This aspect of the present invention applies primarily to wireless systems that use the Carrier Sense Multiple Access/Collision Avoidance (CSMA/CA) mechanism. The methods are advantageously implemented in selectively configured WTRUs of various forms.

  • Patent number: 7996558
Abstract: A method for routing data, using a stateless routing protocol includes communicating data between a source host and a destination host in a network with a plurality of hosts. Each host in the network has a unique numerical address. The method comprises determining a least common ancestor host of the source host and the destination host using the unique numerical address of each of the source and destination hosts. The data is sent from the source host to the least common ancestor host, and then sent from the least common ancestor host to the destination host. Alternatively, the data can be routed using a stateful routing protocol in which each host records the address of its neighbors and forwards the data to the neighbor host that is closest to the destination host.

  • Patent number: 7974263
Abstract: Provided is an apparatus and method for transmitting/receiving time information in a mobile communication system. In a method for calculating a current time in the mobile communication system, time information is received from a base station. Date information and parameters for calculation of time are obtained on the basis of the received time information. A lapse time length from a reference time is calculated on the basis of the parameters. A current time is calculated using the calculated lapse time length and the date information. The time information is periodically transmitted and received using the idle frame of an idle state and the stealing flag of a normal burst contained in a BCCH.

  • Patent number: 7881711
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are presented for dynamically decoding acknowledgment signals. A source receives an acknowledgment signal and starts monitoring an energy value associated with the acknowledgment signal. If the energy value exceeds a predetermined threshold amount before the end of the acknowledgment signal, then the source is confident that the portion of the acknowledgment signal received up to that point could be decoded successfully. Hence, the source decodes that portion of the acknowledgment signal and disregards the remainder of the acknowledgment signal.

  • Patent number: 7852823
Abstract: When a transmission station having a voluntary transmission right transmits FINALL FRAME as a TXOP ending frame to HC, the HC transmits an acknowledgement frame ACK after SIFS following the reception of FINAL FRAME. Here, when the transmitting station has detected that no frame transmission is performed over the communication network from any other ESTAs in PIFS after the transmission of FINAL FRAME, FINAL FRAME is retransmitted in DIFS after the transmission of FINAL FRAME. By performing such a communication management, it is possible to accurately manage a voluntary transmission right even when the communication medium has a low reliability in a network in which one network pathway is time-shared by a plurality of communication apparatuses.

  • Patent number: 7822406
Abstract: Provisioned wireless service (PWS) authentication apparatus and method simplifies determination of PWS authentication state by dual mode access point (DMAP) receiving an identifying credential from supplicant dual mode mobile station (DMMS) within predefined authentication period and comparing with authentication credential. DMMS is provisioned PWS upon authentication. DMAP having multiple BSSID remotely configurable to differentiate between provisioned services (e.g., voice, VoIP) and standard wireline/fixed wireless services. DMAP and DMMS are each identifiable by respective unique provisioned service BSSID. Identifying credential can be pass code supplied to DMMS user by DMAP operator to facilitate authenticated association and to deter wireless channel interlopers.

  • Patent number: 7813737
Abstract: An apparatus and method for mapping a newly assigned Universal Fleet Member Identifier (UFMI) to a previously assigned UFMI is disclosed. In an embodiment, an Integrated Digital Enhanced Network (iDEN) routing request message is received from a dispatch application processor (DAP) associated with a calling party at a serving home location register (HLR) of a called party. The routing request message includes a previously assigned UFMI of the called party. A newly assigned UFMI of the called party is obtained by the HLR by consulting a subscriber table stored in the HLR. An iDEN routing response message is transmitted to the DAP by the HLR, where the routing response message includes the newly assigned UFMI associated with the called party.

  • Patent number: 7751359
Abstract: A system and a method in a wireless network utilizing session initiation protocol (SIP) for call control. The SIP payload (SDP) contains a list of voice codecs to coordinate the selection of voice bearer resources (between a calling party and a called party) such that the number of transcoders in the voice bearer path is minimized. An additional aspect of the embodiment of the present invention includes a serving MSCe that is operable to determine whether to initiate or discontinue ringback to the calling party. If ring back is to be initiated, ringback can be initiated from a Serving MGW controlled by the serving MSCe. The call negotiation process according to the described embodiment of the invention eliminates the requirement for any transcoding in specific situations to result in the number of transcoders used in the voice bearer path to be reduced to 0 (TrFO, Transcoder Free Operation) or to 1 (RTO, remote transmitter operation).
