Abstract: This invention relates to an ultra-low sulphur fuel composition comprising (A) a major amount of a base fuel having (a) no more than 50 ppm by weight of sulphur, (b) no more than 10% by weight of olefins and (c) no more than 10% by weight of an ester and (B) at least 1% by weight based on the total fuel composition of an oxygenate selected from its group consisting of a saturated, aliphatic monohydric alcohol having 4 to 20 carbon atoms, ketone having on an average 5 to 25 carbons and mixtures of the alcohol(s) and ketone(s) and having no other oxygen atom in its structure. These specific oxygenates further reduce particulate emissions from the exhausts of engines powered by ultra-low sulphur diesel fuels which fuels are already known to generate low particulate emissions. These oxygenates are capable of an impressive performance with respect to particulate emissions over a broad range of vehicles and driving cycles when compared with the performance of oxygenates used hitherto.

Abstract: An overbased calcium sulfonate detergent having a high viscosity is characterized by forming a clear solution in lubricating oil, having a TBN of about 400 or more, and having a viscosity of at least 180 mm2/s at 100° C. The high viscosity of the detergent allows for reduction in expensive high viscosity oil components of marine cylinder oils while maintaining selected TBN and viscosity parameters in the finished oil.

Abstract: A flame resistant thermoplastic molding composition is disclosed. The composition contains a mixture of two aromatic polycarbonates having differing solution viscosities, a vinyl(co)polymer made from at least two ethylenically unsaturated monomers, a graft polymer obtainable by graft polymerization of at least two monomers selected from chloroprene, 1,3-butadiene, isoprene, styrene, acrylonitrile, ethylene, propylene, vinyl acetate and (meth)acrylates with 1 to 18 carbon atoms in the alcohol component, a phosphorous compound, a fluorinated polyolefin and an inorganic compound with an average particle size no greater than 200 nm. The inventive composition is additionally characterized in its improved stress cracking resistance.

Abstract: The high intracellular water content contained within the cell walls of the bacterial cells of a dewatered biosludge is reduced by removing the intracellular water in a denaturing operation. This operation comprises heating the biosludge at a temperature sufficient to weaken the bacterial cell walls. The weakened cell walls are then exposed to a reduced pressure sufficient to form vapor within the cell and to thus rupture the weakened cell walls and thereby release the intracellular water in the form of a hot aqueous vapor and/or released intracellular water. The water-reduced concentrated biosludge can then serve as a fuel source in a partial oxidation reaction for the production of synthesis gas.

This flame retardant hydraulic oil contain a hydraulic base oil comprising as the essential component an polyol partial ester which is a product formed by reacting (A) a polyol having a total of 6 to 22 carbon atoms and a total of 3 to 6 hydroxyl groups with (B) an acyclic monocarboxylic acid having a total of 6 to 22 carbon atoms. Said polyol partial ester has a hydroxyl value of 35 mg KOH/g or more, a flash point of 290° C. or higher and an average molecular weight of 600 to 1,500.
Abstract: It has been discovered that less expensive, and in some cases synergistically effective anti-static additive blends may be added to hydrocarbon fuels to improve the conductivity thereof. The blend includes an anti-static amount of at least one hydrocarbon soluble copolymer of an alkylvinyl monomer and a cationic vinyl monomer and an anti-static amount of at least one hydrocarbon soluble polysulfone copolymer of at least one olefin and sulfur dioxide. Optional ingredients include polymeric polyamines and aryl sulfonic acids.
Abstract: Smoke and nitrogen oxide in exhaust gases of diesel engines are reduced by burning a diesel fuel composition having a major portion of diesel fuel and 0.1 to 40 vol. % of a carbonic acid diester of the formula:

Abstract: Preferred embodiments of the present invention relate to rocket fuels comprising metal hydrides and poly-dicyclopentadiene (“poly-DCPD”). Although poly-DCPD also has physical and chemical properties that are compatible with being used as a rocket fuel in its own right, its primary function is as a binder for the metal hydride. Illustrative examples of metal hydrides include but are not limited to as aluminum hydrides, lithium hydrides, and lithium aluminum hydrides.

Abstract: This invention provides an additive used in the water/oil mixture to form an emulsified water/oil mixture suitable as a fuel source. The additive comprises a nonionic surfactant selected from the group of chemicals consisting of 55-65% of phenyl ethyl phenyl polyethyleneoxide and at least one ionic surfactants selected from the group of chemicals consisting of 18-30% of metaldehyde, 3-5% of peroxybenzoic acid and 4-12% of 1,4-dihydroxybenzene by weight of said additive. The additive enables the emulsified water/oil mixture to accommodate allowable water ratios from about 15% up to about 50% to achieve a fuel reduction rate of about 15-30% as compared to a conventional fuel source comprise solely of the crude oils.

Abstract: A fire starter consists of a ring-shaped mass of combustible of wax and wood. It consists of a series of inverted frusto-conical sections connected together by a series of inverted triangular connecting sections and a having a substantially central aperture, and having spacers for supporting the mass of material above a supporting surface, e.g. the floor of a fireplace. During the process for manufacturing the fire starter, the wax and wood mixture is subject to high pressure of 700 psi to 800 psi resulting in the formation of veneer layer of wax on the outer surfaces of the fire starter. During combustion of the fire starter, a venturi effect is created by a flow of air to the aperture, providing a relatively high, intense flame. The fire starter burns for a period of time, e.g, 8-12 minutes, and the intensity of the flame generated is capable of igniting conventional fireplace logs without the use of kindling.
Abstract: A lube oil composition which is suitably used for diesel engines which exhaust large amounts of sulfur dioxides (Sox). The composition exhibit excellent corrosion/wear preventive properties against SOx. Abstract: A process for forming durable, mechanically strong compacts from coal particulates without use of a binder is disclosed. The process involves applying a compressive stress to a particulate feed comprising substantially water-saturated coal particles while the feed is heated to a final compaction temperature in excess of about 100° C. The water present in the feed remains substantially in the liquid phase throughout the compact forming process. This is achieved by heating and compressing the particulate feed and cooling the formed compact at a pressure sufficient to prevent water present in the feed from boiling. The compacts produced by the process have a moisture content near their water saturation point. As a result, these compacts absorb little water and retain exceptional mechanical strength when immersed in high pressure water.
