Abstract: A system, container, and a label for monitoring the use of a container. The label is ideally inserted into the wall of the container. The label preferably includes an indicating ink that incrementally changes color or changes shade when certain external energy sources are applied. The labeled container can be used in a system of monitoring, characterizing, and recording information and traits regarding containers wherein the incremental changes in the indicating ink are measured. The information, such as counting cycles of container use, is preferably machine-readable, as well as human-readable.

Abstract: An apparatus (20) for facilitating folding of a cover material (6) about a spine (4) and a pair of panels (2) to form a hard book cover (8). The apparatus (20) comprises an infeed table assembly (22) for supporting the cover material (6), the spine (4) and the pair of opposed panels (2). A pressure device for receiving the cover material (6), the spine (4) and the pair of opposed panel assembly (16) and for supplying an initial pressure to the cover material/spine/panel assembly (16). A conveying and rotating mechanism (28) is provided for receiving and conveying the cover material/spine/panel assembly (16) to a fold mechanism (28). The fold mechanism (28) facilitates folding of each longitudinal free edge of the cover material (6), about a longitudinal perimeter of the spine (4) and the pair of panels (2), to form the hard book cover (8).

Abstract: A combination shipping label and packing slip/label form which comprises a first ply having a top surface and a bottom surface, and a second release liner ply detachably secured to the bottom surface of the first ply. The first ply comprises a detachable shipping label and a corresponding packing slip. The packing slip is detachably secured to the combination shipping label and packing slip form by a substantial die cut through the first ply and the second release liner ply. The packing slip comprises a border section and a bill of materials section separated by a perforation that perforates the first ply and the second release liner ply. The bottom surface of the border section is coated with an adhesive.

Abstract: A planar form or structure is used to create a thin card capable of receiving and retaining printed indicia, including written signatures, on both opposing surfaces. The structure and related method allow the exposed carrier surface and the underlying release agent layer to receive and retain printed indicia, including written signatures, while retaining an extremely thin, yet tear-resistant, card structure. The release agent layer solidifies from a liquid to form a film capable of receiving and retaining printed indicia, written signatures, and the like which may be printed or written upon through the peeling away of the transparent lamina layer to expose the underlying release agent layer for receiving the indicia. The resulting structure preferably exhibits a flexibility due to its thickness lying within the range of 15-30 microns plus the thickness of the carrier.

Abstract: The invention is an account management system using an adhesive transaction receipt, provided at the point of transaction, which can be directly transferred to an account register. In this system, the adhesive transaction receipt contains a printed record of information relating to the transaction, such as the transaction type and the amount of the transaction. The adhesive transaction receipt is temporarily affixed to a more complete transaction receipt and includes an adhesive so that it can be permanently attached to the account register. The adhesive transaction receipt simplifies bookkeeping and eliminates errors by relieving an account user of the requirement of entering individual transactions by hand.

Abstract: A file including a spine (2), from the longitudinal sides (3, 4) of which extend two lateral faces (5, 6) whereof the distal ends are shaped to form convergent wings (7, 8), and a closing means (9a, 9b) so as to ensure the stability of said file in a vertical position because of the fact that its body closes back on itself, wherein a plurality of reinforcing ribs (10A, 10B et 14) are provided in sunken or protuberant form on at least one of its lateral faces (5, 6) so as to increase the rigidity of the whole.

Abstract: A promotional display structure has a plurality of elongate strips of stiff but bendable material assembled in a pack with their obverse and reverse faces alternating in the pack, the first face having textual display including promotional matter and in some cases also cartoon matter, the second face having illustrative cartoon matter and in some cases also promotional matter, the pages of the pack being releasably connected at one end of their elongation, for example by gumming or other form of binding, and being readily detachable by hand from the remainder of the pack. One or more lines of weakness may be formed in the strips, for example by perforation or crimping, to facilitate folding of a part of the strip against the remainder of the strip, and a releasable fastening may be provided to retain that part in the folded condition. There are also provided a method of forming the promotional display structure, and a method of disassembly thereof.

Abstract: A liner for a label sheet has a printed image under the release layer and an opaque ink receptive coating on the opposite side thereof with a printed image thereon. Label sheets with this liner further include an overlay having at least one label cut therethrough which is aligned with the release layer of the liner and an adhesive layer which bonds the overlay and liner. The label sheet can be part of a form/label combination where the overlay includes the portion that is not adhered to the liner.

Abstract: A sheet perforation device for use in an image forming apparatus eliminates inconveniences such as imperfect punching due to too small a sheet size and completion of image formation without notifying the user that the punching could not be performed despite the user's instruction for punching. Punching setup is made and a starting instruction is given through an operating section. Based on the relationship between a selected sheet size and the spacing of holes to be formed by a punching unit, a determination is made as to whether the punching can be correctly performed, and, if it has been determined that the correct punching will fail, a warning message is displayed on the operating section. If the user gives a starting instruction again after recognizing the warning message, image forming operation is started while the punching setup is automatically canceled.

Abstract: A business form or mailer intermediate providing fold-over carbonless imaging is provided. The form or mailer includes separate CB and CF coating portions on a single sheet. When the form or mailer is folded about a fold line, the CB portion comes in contact with the CF portion. An image is created when the fold-over carbonless area is subjected to an imaging force.

Abstract: A metal layer cleared by contact with a chemical clearing agent to reveal an underlying graphics layer is at least partially covered by a buffer material that delays contact with the clearing agent. The buffer material can be applied in a pattern that forms a temporary image in the metal layer prior to more completely revealing the underlying graphics layer.

Abstract: A binding machine and method for spirally binding a sheaf of papers into a book uses an adjustable speed drive to rotate a flexible plastic spiral element into respective holes in the book. The book has a plurality of holes in a row adjacent one edge of the book to receive the leading edge of the spiral bonding elements. A cylindrically shaped mandrel is spaced apart from a glidable block. The plastic pre-formed spiral binding element is fed onto the mandrel from the distal end thereof, with the leading edge of the binding element facing and spaced apart from the book. A pair of leading edge spreaders, one of which has a guidance groove, engages the plastic spiral to spread its coils just enough to permit it to enter the successive holes of a sheaf to be bound. A trailing spreader at the opposite end insures that the last hole is accommodated with a portion of the spiral coil.

Abstract: A folder having framed windows featuring a first panel, a second panel and a spine panel disposed between the covers. A pocket panel secured to the holder providing framed windows in substantial alignment with the front cover and the spine such that a sheet containing content information is insertable within the pocket and displayable over the front cover, spine or a combination thereof. A mounting sheet is insertable within the pocket for securing a sheet containing content identification. The mounting sheet has a plurality of fasteners adaptable for securing and displaying sheets for insertion into the pocket in multiple orientations. In the first orientation, the plurality of fasteners secures the sheet such that it extends over the front cover and is viewable only within the framed window of the front cover. In the second orientation, the fasteners secure the sheet such that it extends over both the front cover and the spine and is viewable within both framed windows.

Abstract: An album comprising a plurality of leaves each having a projection on one side and a matingly shaped recess on the opposed side, wherein the leaves are stacked on a base in which the projection of one leaf is aligned and registered with the recess of an adjacent leaf, the leaves are pressed with a platen in which adhesive paste is applied on the binding sides of the leaves and is removed after the adhesive paste is cured.

Abstract: A blank is provided adapted for forming into a file folder. The blank comprises a planar sheet having a first surface and a second surface. The sheet has a first cover portion joined to a second cover portion along a mutual cover hinge line. The sheet is adapted for folding about the cover hinge line such that the first cover portion and second cover portion overlie each other and the folder is adapted to receive sheet material therebetween. The first cover portion includes a tab extension along one edge thereof either adjacent to the fold line or opposite thereto. The tab extension includes an inner tab portion and an outer tab portion joined together along a mutual hinge line. Folding the tab extension about the tab fold line causes the outer tab portion to overlie the inner tab portion forming a tab which extends from an edge of the first cover portion beyond the second cover portion when the second cover portion is folded to overlie the first cover portion.

Abstract: A binder mechanism is disclosed having a first ring assembly and a binding portion. The first ring assembly includes at least one first ring half. At least the first ring assembly or the binding portion are a pivotable half that is pivotable with respect to the other to a locked position about a first longitudinal axis. In the locked position, the first ring half is engaged with the binding portion cooperatively defining a loop that is substantially closed to retain a stack of papers or a workpiece. The first ring assembly and the binding portion are lockable with respect to each other in the locked position to prevent pivoting of the pivotable half from the locked position. At least one of the first ring assembly and the binding portion is movable with respect to the other from the locked position in an unlocking direction oriented at less than 180° from the longitudinal axis to permit the pivotable half to pivot about the longitudinal axis to an open position in which the loop is substantially open.

The face sheet defines first and second major faces and includes printed indicia on the first major face. The printed indicia being arranged to indicate an attempted delivery. The reusable adhesive laminate includes a reusable adhesive and a removable ply. The reusable adhesive and the removable ply are configured such that the reusable adhesive retains its properties of adhesion following removal of the removable ply therefrom. The laminating adhesive is interposed between the liner ply and the face sheet so as to secure the liner ply to the second major face of the face sheet. The laminating adhesive is further interposed between the reusable adhesive laminate and the face sheet so as to secure the reusable adhesive laminate to the second major face of the face sheet.

Abstract: A visual display device for providing a continuous, non-reversing animated sequence of displayed images to an observer with a separation member; a plurality of interposed coded images fixed to a first surface of the separation member to form an image member; a plurality of shutter elements fixed to the second surface of the separation member, and a plurality of viewing elements interposed between the plurality of shutter elements to form a shutter member. The coded images, the plurality of shutter elements, and the plurality of viewing elements can share a common orientation and a given pitch. The image member may be transparent except for the plurality of coded images. A strand of flexible material may be provided for suspending the visual display device for continuous rotation.
