  • Patent number: 7046953
Abstract: In an image forming apparatus having a document feeder for taking up a document from a document bundle placed on a document tray, a controller has a normal mode to perform a normal-size conveyance control by taking up each document from a bundle of documents having the same size, a multi-size mode to perform a multi-size conveyance control by taking up each document from a bundle of documents having various sizes. When the normal mode is carried out, the controller controls to stop the document after the first preset time passes after the trailing edge of the document has been detected, and when multi-size mode is carried out, the controller controls in place of using the first preset time by the second preset time which is set to be a longer time than the first preset time.

  • Patent number: 7040226
Abstract: A printing unit contains at least one printing group which is comprised of at least two cylinders which cooperate to form a printing nip. At least these two cylinders are interconnected in a positive fit by a drive. The two cylinders can be engaged with one another in a first position (ON), or disengaged from one another in a second position (OFF). The two cylinders can also be disengaged from each other at a spacing distance in a third position (STOP). That spacing distance is sufficient to allow a web in the printing operation to be guided between the two cylinders without making contact with the two cylinders.

  • Patent number: 7006785
Abstract: A method and device for moving media sheets along a media path. In one embodiment, the media path comprises a metering nip, at least one transfer nip downstream from the metering nip, and a feed nip upstream from the metering nip. The feed nip moves the media sheet initially at a faster speed than the metering nip. This speed variation causes a buckle to form in the media sheet that aligns the leading edge. The media sheet is then moved from the metering nip into the transfer nip. The metering nip may move the media sheet at a faster speed than the transfer nip again forming a buckle in the media sheet. As the media sheet is moved through the transfer nip, it is tacked to a transfer belt such that it moves consistently through the remaining downstream transfer nips.

  • Patent number: 7003258
Abstract: A transfer device for transferring an object to be transferred in a predetermined direction has a drive mechanism unit, a transfer direction displacement information acquiring unit, a skew direction displacement information acquiring unit, and a transfer processing unit. The drive mechanism unit also has roll parts which cause the object to be transferred to move in the direction with a rotational force. The transfer direction displacement information acquiring unit and the skew direction displacement information acquiring unit radiate a predetermined measuring wave toward the object, so that the units acquire the displacement information in each of the directions. Based on the displacement information, the transfer processing unit performs a predetermined processing.

  • Patent number: 6980766
Abstract: In a laser printer capable of printing on both sides of a sheet, alignment or skew of the sheet is corrected with register rollers before printing is performed first on a side of the sheet. The sheet with an image having been formed by a process unit is fed to a re-circulation path for printing on the other side of the sheet. The sheet alignment or skew is corrected in the re-circulation path by a guide plate while the sheet is fed by re-circulation feed rollers. The sheet fed back to the register rollers is fed toward the process unit without being temporarily stopped at the register rollers before printing on the other side of the sheet.
