Patent number: 6668721Abstract: A rotary offset printing press which has a series of printing units of identical make through which a web of paper is threaded. In each printing unit the blanket cylinder is made displaceable into and out of printing engagement with the plate cylinder and the impression cylinder. The cylinders of each printing unit are driven from a separate variable-speed motor via a train of gears which stay intermeshed whether the blanket cylinder is in or out of printing engagement with the other cylinders. A clutch is inserted between the drive linkage and the impression cylinder for connecting and disconnecting the latter to and from the former. A plate change is possible in any of the printing units by moving the blanket cylinder out of printing engagement with the plate cylinder and the impression cylinder, and declutching the impression cylinder from the drive linkage, in that printing unit while the other printing unit or units are in continuous operation for printing the web.Type: GrantFiled: February 7, 2002Date of Patent: December 30, 2003Assignee: Miyakoshi Printing Machinery Co., Ltd.Inventor: Masahiro Naka

Patent number: 6662721Abstract: In a rotary press, a first press roller adapted to retreat during printing and advance during plate changing to contact a web is provided on a travel route of the web between a printing unit and a dryer. A second press roller having the same function as the first press roller is provided on the travel route of the web between air infeed unit and the printing unit. A web presser for pinching the web is provided on the travel route of the web between the infeed unit and the second press roller. With the web being pinched by the web presser, the first press roller and the second press roller can be moved by the web in a retreating direction. After plate changing is completed, the press rollers can smoothly ascend regardless of their pressure, and can promptly and smoothly return to the state before plate changing.Type: GrantFiled: May 9, 2001Date of Patent: December 16, 2003Assignee: Komori CorporationInventor: Shinichi Fujishiro

Patent number: 6655278Abstract: An apparatus for positional adjustment of a plate cylinder in both lateral and circumferential directions thereof for image registration in a multicolor, offset rotary printing press. A lateral adjustment mechanism includes a spur gear which is motor driven bidirectionally, and which travels laterally back and forth, to cause lateral displacement of the plate cylinder. The gear has a pin erected eccentrically thereon for abutment against a fixed limit stop on the press frame in order to limit the bidirectional rotation of the gear and hence to prevent the plate cylinder from being driven laterally beyond limits. A circumferential adjustment mechanism includes another spur gear which is motor driven bidirectionally, and which also travels laterally back and forth, to cause circumferential displacement of the plate cylinder. This second gear has a double-ended pin extending eccentrically therethrough and having its ends projecting in opposite directions therefrom.Type: GrantFiled: May 18, 2001Date of Patent: December 2, 2003Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha Tokyo Kikai SeisakushoInventor: Takanobu Kawabata

Patent number: 6647875Abstract: A roller structure in a printing press includes a dampening form roller, gear, belt, belt roller, clutch member, nut, movable element, and snap rings. The dampening form roller is supported rotatably and adapted to come into contact with a plate cylinder and oscillating roller, having different peripheral surface speeds, at their outer surfaces. The gear, belt, and belt roller transmit rotation of one of the plate cylinder and oscillating roller to the dampening form roller. The clutch member, nut, movable element, and snap rings connect/disconnect the gear, belt, and belt roller. When the gear, belt, and belt roller are disconnected by the clutch member, nut, movable element, and snap rings, the dampening form roller is rotatably driven by the other one of the plate cylinder and oscillating roller.Type: GrantFiled: April 13, 2001Date of Patent: November 18, 2003Assignee: Komori CorporationInventor: Kazumi Horikoshi

Patent number: 6612762Abstract: The present invention is intended to provide an economical printer which is simple in structure and uses a common tray but is capable of adapting itself to various recording media of different shapes. Adapters in which recording media can be firmly held can be selectively mounted in the tray. An adapter 24 has an oval opening 24a in which a recording medium 30 can be placed. The contour of the adapter 24 can fit into a recessed portion 23a formed in the tray 23. The recording medium 30 is firmly held in the adapter 24. When the adapter 24 is mounted in the recessed portion 23a in the tray 23, a keyway 23b and a protrusion 24b engaging the keyway 23b prevent the adapter 24 from shifting out of position; the adapter is held in the tray 23. Prints can be made in accurate positions on the recording medium 30.Type: GrantFiled: May 30, 2000Date of Patent: September 2, 2003Assignee: Seiko Precision Inc.Inventors: Motoharu Sakurai, Satoru Tada, Naoki Tanabe, Mikio Amakasu
