  • Patent number: 9976660
Abstract: A check valve including an elastomeric valve element having a dome-shaped configuration that seals in its at-rest position occluding fluid flow in both directions. The dome-shaped elastomeric valve element is constructed in such a way to be deflectable, such as being activated by the external device such as a male luer whereupon the valve is cracked open to become a two-way valve allowing flow in both directions. The valve element may also be cracked open by sufficient fluid pressure in its inlet. The valve element is self-aligning. The dome-shaped of the valve element includes cut-outs for additional fluid flow, thereby streamlining flow while reducing the potential for air entrapment. The underside of the dome-shaped valve element also includes a thickened concave undersurface and thickened support legs to significantly increase the resistance to high backpressures, while also minimizing potential air entrapment.

  • Patent number: 9962483
Abstract: Flow control devices and methods using the flow control devices are provided. In a general embodiment, a cassette includes a housing having a constrictor, a tube attached to the housing and positioned through the constrictor, and a ball positioned inside the tube. The constrictor can be constructed and arranged to prevent the ball from moving through the tube at the location proximate the constrictor. The ball can prevent fluid flow in one position and be dislodged to allow fluid flow when the cassette is positioned inside a pumping device. As a result, the cassette is designed to prevent free flow of fluid when an enteral feeding tube set is not installed in a pumping device.

  • Patent number: 9938698
Abstract: An apparatus and method for a fluid leak detection and shutdown for a fluid distribution system having a total system flow rate. The apparatus includes a solenoid shutoff valve having a normally open state and an activated closed state with a flow capacity matched to the total fluid distribution system flow rate. The apparatus also has a primary fluid flow line and a smaller capacity secondary fluid flow line. The apparatus includes a flow sensor in fluid communication with the secondary fluid flow line, wherein the flow sensor has a perceptible output and a flow rate capacity less than the solenoid shutoff flow capacity. Operationally, the flow sensor receives a portion of the solenoid shutoff valve flow capacity in priority over the primary fluid flow line, allowing the flow sensor to detect minimal flow rates and using the perceptible output to activate the solenoid shutoff valve into the closed state.
