  • Patent number: 5295803
Abstract: A device for controlling the thickness of a sheet in calendering includes a thickness measuring unit for measuring the thickness of the sheet immediately after it has been formed by a pair of calender rolls, and a roll adjusting unit for moving at least one of the pair of calender rolls toward and away from the other calender roll. The device further includes a detection unit for detecting change in distance between the axes of the pair of calender rolls, and a control device for comparing the measured thickness of the sheet with a target thickness to obtain a difference therebetween. The control device then calculates a gap adjusting value on the basis of the difference, and compares the change in distance between the axes of the rolls detected by the detection unit with the calculated gap adjusting value. When these values become equal, the control device stops the movement of the one calender roll to make the thickness of the sheet equal to the target thickness.

  • Patent number: 5296179
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for monitoring injection pressure, using the relationship between positions of a screw (1), filling of resin in a cavity and injection pressure. Mold cavity data are stored, whereby a display screen (2) displays, based on said data, a configuration of the cavity and straight lines corresponding to cross sections along which the cavity is divided into a plurality of regions. Screw positions required to sequentially fill the divided regions of the cavity with the resin are obtained to be displayed on a coordinate axis representing a screw position in a pressure waveform graph (22). Then an operator changes the setting of molding conditions referring to the data on the display screen, and carries out the injection to obtain the pressure data corresponding to the screw position to be displayed on the pressure waveform graph (22).

  • Patent number: 5292471
Abstract: A polyester film, which is substantially non-oriented and whose main component is polyethylene terephthalate, is formed into a shape for example, a package, at a condition causing no yield point. The formation ability of the polyester film for forming is improved, and a formed body having a good uniformity in thickness can be obtained. Further, the range of the temperature condition causing no yield point can be enlarged by laminating a PET-system polyester, which originally tends to cause a yield point by itself, onto a polyester having no yield point. In such a laminated polyester film, the slipping property and releasing property from a mold of the film can be improved by specifying the ranges of the degree of crystallinity of each layer, the adhesive force at a high temperature of the film and the surface roughness of the film, and the shape of a formed body can be improved.

  • Patent number: 5290502
Abstract: A rigidized fiber filter element is produced from a precursor fiber web. The precursor fiber web contains heat-shrinkable fibers or binder fibers or both. The web is exposed to temperatures sufficiently elevated to cause shrinkage of the fibers or melting of the binder. After cooling the web, the filter elements produced are self-supporting, and may have densities up to 500 kg/m.sup.3 to improve filtration while retaining good functional characteristics for operating pressure drop and air permeability. Rigidized fiber filter elements can be constructed of one material, and thus may be suitable for recycling.

  • Patent number: 5288219
Abstract: Apparatus and method are described for controlling thickness of plastic films produced by the blown film process. The apparatus is an air cooling ring modified to include devices for locally modifying the temperature of the air discharged from the air ring onto the blown bubble. Local variations in the temperature of the cooling air applied to the surface of the bubble result in variations in the bubble cooling rate and viscosity, with consequent variations in thinning during transverse bubble expansion. The method includes controlling the location and extent of local temperature variation applied to the bubble in response to comparison of measured film thickness with a desired film thickness.

  • Patent number: 5288436
Abstract: A lenticule is bonded to the eye as part of its formation process by curing or final curing the lenticule on the eye. Such lenticules provide a smooth transition from the body of the lenticule to Bowman's layer on which the lenticule is disposed. The lenticule at the time its material or precursor is placed on the eye may vary from being essentially all viscous collagen which flows and must be molded to obtain a desired lenticule configuration to a substantially stable preform which holds its own shape. Such preformed lenticules may be formed using an appropriate mold and photopolymerization or other partial curing techniques to pre-cure the lenticule material to an appropriate stage for application to the eye.

  • Patent number: 5281375
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the film correction of the thickness profile of a blown portion in the production of bubble film in which the flow of cooling air is varied in individual peripheral regions of the film bubble. According to the invention, at least part of the cooling air is taken via an exit slot which is divided into individual separately fed segments in the peripheral direction of the film bubble and the supply of additional cooling air via the exit slot is, for example, controlled per segment using radial blowers. In this manner it is possible accurately to regulate the cooling action and thus the film thickness in the individual peripheral regions of the film bubble.
