  • Patent number: 6817454
Abstract: A piston connected to a piston rod is slidably fitted in a cylinder having a hydraulic fluid sealed therein. First and second poppet valves having different valve opening characteristics are provided in first and second extension main passages, respectively. A pilot control valve is provided in a sub-passage. The control pressure of the pilot control valve is adjusted by a proportional solenoid, thereby controlling damping force. At the same time, the pressure at the upstream side of the pilot control valve is introduced into back-pressure chambers to adjust the valve opening pressures of the first and second poppet valves. Because the first and second poppet valves are sequentially opened or closed, damping force can be controlled stepwisely, and ideal damping force characteristics can be obtained.

  • Patent number: 6817453
Abstract: A remote brake release for elevator drive machine brakes includes a release lever attached to a shaft coupled by a clutch to a bellcrank. The clutch is normally engaged and can be a spring clutch or a friction type disc clutch. Movement of the lever to rotate the shaft moves the bellcrank which is coupled to a brake release mechanism. A solenoid is actuated to disengage the clutch preventing release of the brake. The solenoid can be connected to a control circuit responsive to a speed of rotation of the drive machine motor.

  • Patent number: 6817597
Abstract: A combined spring-and-shock-absorber system for supporting wheel suspensions or axles on a vehicle body has a tubular roll bellows (U-bellows) arranged between a wheel-bearing or wheel-controlling connection and a connection on the vehicle body side, the bellows being arranged between an outer bell and a rolling piston, the outer bell and the rolling piston, in each case, having at least partially varying diameters over the height of the corresponding component, and having walls that contact the tubular roll bellows. Both ends of the tubular roll bellows being sealingly secured on the rolling piston at segments having different diameters, the lower mounting section having a larger diameter than the upper mounting section. For this purpose, a tubular roll bellows is used, which is configured as a differential roll bellows, whose interior is filled with a fluid and communicates with a hydraulic accumulator supported on the chassis and/or vehicle body.

  • Patent number: 6814413
Abstract: An improved hydraulically assisted braking and steering system of a vehicle having a hydraulic pump communicating with a hydraulic steering assist device and including a hydraulic brake assist device coupled in series between the pump and the steering assist device includes the provision of a flow splitter which operates to reduce the interdependence of the hydraulic brake and steering assist devices on the flow of fluid from the pump. The flow splitter communicates with the outlet of the pump and the inlet of the brake assist device and is operative when the back pressure from the brake assist device exceeds a predetermined control value to divert a fraction of the flow of fluid around the brake assist device directly to the steering assist device, thereby providing sufficient flow to operate both the brake and steering assist devices within their normal design limits, rather than having the brake assist device starve the steering assist device when under heavy load.

  • Patent number: 6811229
Abstract: A vehicular braking control apparatus and method controls frictional braking performed by a frictional braking device, controls regenerative braking performed by a regenerative braking device, and controls shifting between a cooperative braking mode, realized by the frictional braking and the regenerative braking, and a single braking mode, realized by only the frictional braking. A correction coefficient for one of a frictional braking control amount and a regenerative braking control amount is calculated on the basis of an actual degree of vehicle deceleration and a reference degree of vehicle deceleration based on an amount of braking operation performed by a driver during braking in the single braking mode. The control amount is corrected based on the correction coefficient.

  • Patent number: 6802573
Abstract: A parking brake control circuit engages the parking brake of a vehicle when the transmission of the vehicle is in the “park” position and the engine of the vehicle is turned off, without requiring the constant application of electrical power. The parking brake control circuit utilizes latching solenoid technology that eliminates the need for a constant voltage source. A time-delay relay is used to change the state of the latching solenoid. The time-delay relay is preferably activated through a circuit containing an engine oil pressure switch, a transmission park switch and a vehicle speed switch. Activation of the relay latches the solenoid in a position that allows the parking brake to be applied, without requiring the application of a constant voltage to the solenoid. Accordingly, the possibility of inadvertent brake application due to electrical failure is avoided.
