Abstract: Wireless network interference is mitigated with client devices having wireless network interference mitigation logic and/or utilizing a usable bandwidth channel quality metric. In a described example implementation, a client device includes wireless network interference mitigation logic that monitors at least one channel condition of a wireless network and participates in a wireless network interference mitigation procedure based on the at least one channel condition. In another described example implementation, a usable bandwidth of a wireless channel is ascertained with respect to a native network, the usable bandwidth reflecting a difference between (i) a total channel capacity of the wireless channel and (ii) a portion of the total channel capacity that is consumed by wireless communications of one or more foreign networks. By way of example only, the at least one channel condition may be usable bandwidth. The wireless network interference mitigation logic may also be employed in non-client devices.

Abstract: Mobile user equipment for use in a cellular communications environment performs an improved cell selection on transitions out of a connected mode state. The transitions might be from one connected mode state to another or from a connected mode state to idle mode. The improvement in cell selection lies in assembling the list of candidate cells prior to cell selection. In the prior art, the list of candidate cells would usually be restricted to the serving cell or active cells supporting communication between the equipment and the network prior to transition. In embodiments of the invention, the list might comprise cells which are not the serving cell or which are outside the active set, for example a network-preferred cell or cells neighbouring the serving cell or cells of the active set.

Abstract: A signal processing system according to various aspects of the present invention includes an excursion signal generator, a scaling system and a filter system. The excursion signal generator identifies a peak portion of a signal that exceeds a threshold and generates a corresponding excursion signal. The scaling system applies a real scale factor to contiguous sets of excursion samples in order to optimize peak-reduction performance. The filter system filters the excursion signal to remove unwanted frequency components from the excursion signal. The filtered excursion signal may then be subtracted from a delayed version of the original signal to reduce the peak. The signal processing system may also control power consumption by adjusting the threshold. The signal processing system may additionally adjust the scale of the excursion signal and/or individual channel signals, such as to meet constraints on channel noise and output spectrum, or to optimize peak reduction.

Abstract: Techniques for adjusting transmit power to mitigate both intra-sector interference to a serving base station and inter-sector interference to neighbor base stations are described. This may be done by combining interference information from multiple base stations.
Abstract: A method and apparatus provide for setting the initial transmit power of secondary reverse link carriers used by mobile stations in conjunction with primary reverse link carriers. In one or more embodiments, a mobile station sets the initial transmit power of a secondary reverse link carrier relative to the transmit power of the primary reverse link carrier as a function of initialization transmit power information transmitted to the mobile station, which directly or indirectly considers reverse link loading information. Additional considerations may include differences in active sets associated with the primary and secondary reverse link carriers and/or sector switching activity of the mobile station.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for calibrating the control mechanism in a communication circuit to allow the communication circuit to maintain a desired output power level. The communication circuit includes a variable gain adjustment circuit and a power amplifier, which operate together to provide an output power level. A control circuit controls the variable gain adjustment circuit based on a default gain parameter, a high power threshold, and a low power threshold. A calibration circuit in the control circuit calibrates a default gain parameter to provide a desired output power. A power detector can detect the desired output power level to provide an output power measurement. The calibration circuit calibrates upper and lower power thresholds to provide an acceptable range of power variation around the output power measurement.

Abstract: A method of retrieving information using a mobile telecommunications device is disclosed. The method starts by reading a print media identifier encoded on the print medium using a sensor module of the mobile telecommunications device. Information linked to the print media identifier and the mobile telecommunications device is then retrieved from a database.
Abstract: To provide a hand-held device with built-in fingerprint sensor provided on a control panel, which does not ruins the operability of the movement of a cursor or a pointer of the display screen. A hand-held device with built-in fingerprint sensor comprises a fingerprint sensor for the fingerprint attestation provided on a control panel. A cursor or a pointer displayed on a display unit is moved according to a time change in the position where the pressure is provided or the movement of the finger on the sensor side of the fingerprint sensor. Further, the timing when said time change is detected is decided according to a time change in the position of the finger on said sensor side or the applied pressure.
Abstract: An apparatus and method for accurately controlling a transmission power using a variable attenuator and a power detector in a mobile terminal is disclosed.
Abstract: Systems and techniques are disclosed relating to wireless communications. The systems and techniques involve an efficient power source for prolonged battery life. The power source may include first and second batteries, and a power management module configured to operate each of the first and second batteries in a pulse current discharge mode while supplying continuous current to a load.
Abstract: During a telephony session, a determination is made on a mobile computing device that one or more designated conditions exist by which radio interference generated from the mobile computing device is to be reduced. In response, a power state of a set of one or more components of the mobile computing device is lowered. This reduces radio interference from those components. The set of components are ancillary to the mobile computing device's ability to maintain the telephony session, so that the telephony session is not affected by the reduction of power to the components.
Abstract: A dual-mode mobile terminal, which can access synchronous and asynchronous mobile communication systems, includes a key input panel and a controller. The key input panel includes a call switching key for switching between calls from the two systems and a call end key for ending calls from the two systems. While the terminal performs communication of one call received from one of the two systems in a general communication mode over a communication channel currently established by the one system, the controller determines whether an incoming call is received from the other system. If the incoming call is received, the controller notifies the user of receipt of the incoming call. If the call switching key is pressed, the controller prepares a communication environment for communication of the incoming call, allowing the user to perform the communication of the incoming call while maintaining the currently established communication channel.

Abstract: A business model of satellite digital audio broadcasting, also referred to as multicasting, teaches computer improvements in business operations for the determination of the number of listeners and listeners' preferences of multicast satellite transmissions and more particularly to the detection of signals from a multitude of individual client radios that simultaneously respond to a polling signal with a radio frequency chirp. A response to a polling signal instruction is synchronized utilizing an instruction embedded within a digital audio broadcast. Further embodiments teach a determination of listener count derived from signal strength, single chirp signal strength contribution derived from reception delay, and media prioritization derived from changes in user preferences.
Abstract: With a conventional hands-free system formed by a radio apparatus and a hands-free apparatus connectable to each other by a local radio link, accepting a call on the hands-free apparatus is ineffective after the radio apparatus starts to send a reply message. There is provided a method for hands-free control to solve this problem. The method comprises measuring time since transferring a call arrived at the radio apparatus to the hands-free apparatus, and establishing a voice channel on the local radio link in a case where an operation is done to accept the call on the hands-free apparatus while the reply message is being sent.
