Abstract: Apparatuses and methods for the prevention of bodily injuries through active monitoring of bodily postures, supporting a body while in or restricting a body from entering predetermined postures which heighten the body's susceptibility to injury, and alerting one or more entities (e.g., an apparatus user) of a body's susceptibility to injury is disclosed herein. In one embodiment, the method may include one or more operations including monitoring one or more bodily postures and/or bodily movements, storing data associated with bodily postures and/or bodily movements, determining a risk of injury associated with bodily postures and/or bodily movements, and alerting one or more entities when a risk of injury associated with bodily postures and/or bodily movements reaches a predetermined level.

Abstract: A hemodialysis split-tip catheter comprises an elongated portion, a proximal end and a distal end defining a longitudinal axis. The proximal end attaches to a hub with suture wings assembly, which in turn connected to extension tubings. The distal end has two distal tip segments splitted from each other. The first distal tip segment has a concave shape with respect to the longitudinal axis and the second distal tip segment has an approximately J-shape with respect to first distal tip segment. Diameter of concave shape of first distal tip segment is larger than diameter of J-shape of second distal tip segment to facilitate backward bend of second distal tip segment with respect to first distal tip segment after a catheter insertion inside a blood vessel to face a blood flow direction.

The proximal end attaches to a hub with suture wings assembly, which in turn connected to extension tubings. The distal end has two distal tip segments splitted from each other. The distal tip segments bend longitudinally inward toward a centerline of a blood vessel. First distal tip segment has a smaller angle, with respect to the axis extended from the dividing point longitudinally parallel to a centerline axis of a blood vessel, compare to second distal tip segment. This configuration to make the distal end of the catheter to be located not at the centerline axis of a blood vessel.
Abstract: A systems and methods for tissue characterization using ultrasound are disclosed. One embodiment is for a system with a novel YB-scan transducer. The YB transducer is comprised of a plurality of separate and independent piezo-elements. The system is configured to scan a tissue or organ using two different frequencies to produce 2D images and two-frequency attenuation data to characterize tissue types. Other embodiments are presented permitting conventional B-scan imaging combined with A-mode scanning for two-frequency tissue characterization.
Abstract: A hemodialysis self-centric symmetric catheter comprises an elongated portion, a proximal end and a distal end defining a longitudinal axis. Distal end may have two distal segments that may split (separated) from each other with respect to a longitudinal axis at a proximal end of said two distal segments and re-bonded with a distal portion at a distal end of said two distal segments. Each distal segment has a curved portion. Proximal end of said two distal segments may be coupled with a distal end of elongated portion. First distal segment and second distal segment are exactly symmetric (similar) to each other. Each distal segment may have a lumen, a distal tip and a distal angled opening.
Abstract: The method set out herein involves conducting adaptive clinical trial to develop parenteral therapeutic product with variable dose drug delivery devices. The method comprises using a variable dose drug delivery device to respond modifications during the adaptive clinical trial, wherein the variable dose drug delivery device is able to deliver more than one dose level and is for delivering fluid formulation. Other methods set out herein involve using a variable dose drug delivery device equipped with radio frequency identification (RFID) or near field communication (NFC) technology to improve patient adherence to drug administration in the adaptive clinical trial.
Abstract: A single-use needle cover configured to obscure, protect, or hide at least a portion of a needle from view before, during, and/or after an injection and/or aspiration procedure is disclosed. In some embodiments, the cover includes a housing at least partially containing the needle and configured to couple to a syringe, wherein the housing includes an axis and a guide member. In some embodiments, a sleeve has a plurality of tracks configured to slidingly receive the guide member, wherein the sleeve is configured to retract, extend, and rotate with respect to the housing. In some embodiments, after the sleeve has been retracted and extended one time, a first locking member inhibits further retraction of the sleeve and a second locking member inhibits rotation of the sleeve.

Abstract: An ultrasonic medical system comprising a tracking probe and a catheter is used for tracking a target inside human body. The ultrasonic probe has additional ultrasound sensors embedded around its main transducer array. A catheter is built with ultrasound transmitters at its distal end and sends active sound signals during each probe scanning cycle. The probe sensors track the 3D position of the target catheter using triangulation principle. The target position is rendered in the 3D anatomic context defined by the ultrasound images.
Abstract: An automatic retractable syringe comprised of a syringe inside a compressed spring loaded locking safety sheath that moves into a protective position over the needle of the syringe that is triggered by the depression of the plunger, causing the positional locking mechanism to displace from its initial position and activate a compressed spring that expands, moving the locking safety sheath into its protective position and locks the sheath, preventing further movement of the locking safety sheath. An optional fusing system acts to permanently fix the locking mechanism in place to further secure the locking safety sheath in the protective position.

Abstract: The present invention relates to devices and methods for use in minimally invasive procedures whereby at least one, and preferably a plurality of laparoscopic instrument heads can be delivered through a single trocar and made accessible for attachment within a body cavity to the distal end of a needlescopic instrument under direct visualization via a laparoscope. The system and procedure will produce less scarring, less pain, and a reduced risk of infection at the surgical site. An addition benefit is that, because only 1 trocar is used instead of 3-5 trocars, there is a significant cost saving in each case and the surgeon is freer to move instrument locations and add/remove instruments since a new trocar does not need to be inserted every time.

Abstract: The invention relates to the field of dentistry and is intended for restoration/reconstruction of teeth decayed/fractured below the gum line using reinforcement technology of composite materials. The indirect atraumatic method for restoration/reconstruction of teeth decayed/fractured below the gum line comprises using a metal mesh-reinforced composite (MMC) dental prosthesis according to M. L. Melikyan, which is made by a laboratory method using gypsum models. The metal mesh-reinforced composite (MMC) dental prosthesis is comprised of a flexible crown-root wire pin and reinforcing crown-root frame assembly made from a mesh and free mesh wires. The walls of the crown part of the dental prosthesis are formed from a composite material.
Abstract: A medication delivery device, for use with a container having a distal end and a needle being placed at the distal end of the container, including: a push rod which is movable with respect to at least a portion of the container; a resilient member configured to bias the push rod to move toward the distal end of the container; a releasable restraining means configured to releasably restrain the push rod in a locked state against the biasing of the resilient member; a means to adjust amount of movement of the push rod with respect to the container in order to deliver a predetermined dose of medication; and an activation means configured to release the releasable means. The means to adjust amount of movement of the push rod with respect to the container is bi-directional. The device can accommodate containers of different size or shape.
Abstract: An access catheter provides access for a large bore stiff therapeutic catheter across the atrial septum from above via the superior vena cava. The access catheter has an expandable member that direct a delivery tube outwards in a radial direction to place a delivery tube opening into direct contact with the fossa ovalis. The braided expandable member allows blood flow to pass when it is expanded; the expandable member provides support against the opposite wall of the right atrium. A hollow dilator tube enters the delivery tube to form a tenting shape to the fossa and a guidewire is passed across the fossa ovalis. Standard procedure allows delivery of the therapeutic catheter over the guidewire.
Abstract: A catheter assembly includes an expandable and collapsible structure having an outer surface. The expandable and collapsible structure is adapted to expand between a contracted state and a dilated state. A coating is disposed on the outer surface of the expandable and collapsible structure. The coating includes a bioactive agent. A sleeve is disposed over the coating. The sleeve is adapted to expand between a compressed state and an enlarged state and to return to the compressed state. The sleeve defines a plurality of openings in the compressed state. An outer diameter of the coating is less than an outer diameter of the sleeve when the expandable and collapsible structure is in the contracted state and greater than the outer diameter of the sleeve when the expandable and collapsible structure is in the dilated state.
