Patent number: 4802047Abstract: A disc cartridge capable of effectively preventing a shutter from being opened even when any unexpected shock is suddenly applied to the disc cartridge during non-use of the disc cartridge. The disc cartridge includes a connection mechanism for operatively connecting to disc receivers, actuators for releasably locking the shutter. The connection mechanism is constituted by a guide groove provided in the actuator and formed into a substantially sideways U-shape, and a guide pin provided on the disc receiver and movably fitter within the guide groove. The guide pin is spaced from two surfaces of the guide groove opposite to the guide pin, in the actuating direction of the actuator. Also, the disc cartridge includes a substantially V-shaped spring for constantly positioning the guide pin within the guide groove and forcing the disc receiver to return to its original position to keep the guide pin apart from the opposite surfaces of the guide groove.Type: GrantFiled: April 16, 1987Date of Patent: January 31, 1989Assignee: TDK CorporationInventors: Kimio Tanaka, Haruo Shiba

Patent number: 4802037Abstract: A cassette holding device for a tape recorder wherein the shock resistance thereof can be assured sufficiently with a simple construction during transportation and during normal use of the tape recorder and protection of a cassette holder, capstan shafts and a tape cassette and reduction in cost and facility in use of the entire tape recorder can be attained. The device comprises an ejecting member which holds, when it is at advanced position, an arresting member to an advanced position in which a cassette holder can receive therein a tape cassette inserted into the tape recorder. When the arresting member is at a retracted position, the ejecting member is prevented from moving from a retracted position to the advanced position, but when the arresting member is moved form the retracted to the advanced position, the ejecting member is allowed to move from the retracted to the advanced position to eject a tape cassette from the tape recorder.Type: GrantFiled: June 1, 1987Date of Patent: January 31, 1989Assignee: Tanashin Denki Co., Ltd.Inventors: Shinsaku Tanaka, Tadao Arata, Takayuki Kitazawa

Patent number: 4800450Abstract: Tape guides of a magnetic tape transport machine are controlled during movement by sensing the position of the member as it moves along a defined path in varying velocity corresponding to the position. The member is initially accelerated at a selected rate to a maximum velocity which is then maintained until a distance close to the end position is reached. Velocity is then reduced at a selected rate until another position closer to the end position is reached. At this position a final velocity is maintained until the end is reached. A determination is made of how closely the second distance from the end coincided with reaching the final velocity. The length of the first distance from the end position is adjusted to reduce the difference between the coincidence of reaching the second distance and the final velocity. Further, the sensed final position of the member is retained as the target final position for the subsequent operation.Type: GrantFiled: April 11, 1986Date of Patent: January 24, 1989Assignee: Ampex CorporationInventors: David R. Patent number: 4797767Abstract: A method for fabricating a write-after-read magnetic head assembly employs rectangular wafers sliced from a block of abrasion-resistive material. The block is prepared, prior to slicing, with pairs of opposed slots extending inwardly from anterior and posterior surfaces. The slots are adapted to include inserts of magnetically soft material. The inserts at the anterior surface also are of high cost abrasion-resistive materials necessary for digital recording systems but represent a relatively tiny amount of such materials. Pairs of wafers are juxtaposed in a manner to form a core equivalent structure and two such wafer pairs are mounted in an assembly which defines write after read heads for two tracks in a manner to preserve aximuth and avoid feed.Type: GrantFiled: November 20, 1986Date of Patent: January 10, 1989Assignee: American Magnetics CorporationInventor: Rene Baus, Jr.
